Well, quite famously (infamously, perhaps), she seemed pretty "done" this whole performance, but people tend to single out 0:51 in particular.

 

 

 

 

 

 

That's just one example from forever ago, and I get that Chae in general is a member who never really turns up the sugar meter, along with Jeongyeon and Tzuyu. I'm also going to say that it wasn't always visibly detectable, either via facial expressions or stage performances. Sometimes it was a story -- was it Jeongyeon that was like after hearing Signal for the first time? I remember reading that article, which I think was something she said either in a radio show or a V live. The point is, it's largely intangible. You summed it up nicely, I don't think they hated every (or even any) minute of doing the cute concepts, they just always expressed that they wanted to do more.

 

 

I am a proud junkie of the Masterlist of Songwriter/Composer K-Pop Artists Thread, where I contributed most of TWICE's section from 2016-2017. (I only stopped because the current OP does a really good job of regularly updating most currently active artists, TWICE included.) So yes, I have always appreciated TWICE as individual artists and their contributions to their music, whether it was writing lyrics, choreo, or what have you. I apologize if I gave off the impression that I thought they were performing monkeys, unhappily shackled to their cute concepts when I know very well how they much they know and value their product, as you put it. I remember they all said they liked Likey and couldn't wait for the fans to hear/see it, and they always speak graciously about being a positive, bright presence for their fans.

 

Mostly, I think we're agreeing. It's not an either-or, essentially. Me observing that maybe some members had less-than-abundant enthusiasm for a past concept =/= me saying they've secretly hated their entire catalog all this time. I know they don't, especially when they've proudly contributed to it.

 

Anyway, I didn't mean to clog the thread with long essays. My favorite B side is Hot, listen to the auto-generated version, it's always the best quality on YT.
