  1. Of course I  know about the stigma against boy-groups, but then again, that's certainly not something exclusive to Korea. 1D was by far the biggest boygroup for the past decade, and still, they never quite managed to really get a hit "out there", not the way Justin Bieber did, and he was ridiculed to no end. It's still hard to believe he managed to "break away" from his teenebopper image, and is now considered something of a hit garant. Never though I would see the day when people my age, and older would turn one of his songs for parties.

I'm also aware of YG's influence in that department.

Sure, I know all about the idols daily routine, and the whole cutesy, thingy. It's not pretty to look at but hey, I hope that soon they'll be big enough not to have to act like some random ten year old (this only goes for the fansign nonsense).

My last question -  do you think "DWC" can/will get them a certain amount of public recognition, beyond your average boyband? How would you predict the numbers to turn out at this point?

Ahhhh, that sounds a lot - not that I would know much about it, anyway. Even though I am familiar with most of the terms (Melon, Sorbia, the music shows, ect.) I'm still trying to build this puzzle so that it makes sense.

I know, they are doing good, especially, for a boyband, from time to time, I even take a look at their Melon ranking (very pleased with the number 3 spot), but I was so confident that "DWC" would be that game changer for them, you know? I think that anticipation also has something to do with my recent interest in the music scene from a simple business point of view. It will be so much fun to keep track of their progress, until their BIG breakthrough.

(1d/justin bieber are good examples, taylor swift too. but they had to destroy their disney image first before turning mainstream, and that's a really risky move for kpop idols.)

it's complicated... i think it'll have more longevity than pretty u. it's their 2nd week, fans don't have to stream as much as the 1st week because svt has zero chance to win anything next week, But the song is still in top50. it's gaining melon stars (?idk how to call it) fast, they trended after the few times they appeared on big music shows. the song Is Good so who knows?

if nothing big happens, maybe 400k-500k sales?

can't wait to see what they have prepared for the second half of the year.

  2. Ooh.. So that's why I rarely see any translated pann post about other groups even bt* and ex*. all I see was P101.

i'd say 90% are p101, 9% random things, 1% other groups (bts billboard - ikon flopping - top smoking etc.) but they never trend as high as before.

    on friday, it's 105% p101.

Ah - ok, thanks for all the information! As I've said, the whole system behind the charting and whatnit is really beginning to interest me.

But wait, you mean DOPE only had 300k sales in digital downloads? Is that considered a lot by korean standards?

But no - it's not that I'm too concerned with "DWC" doing well, I know they are doing really well, and no doubt, will continue to do so with the next thing they release, I'm just really curious to know how it all works this time around. Next time they release an album, I'll at least know what indicators to look for. I'm certainly not stressing myself over this, it's more like a game to me at this point.

Not gonna lie though, I was really expecting "DWC" to be their "Lie", it just sounds too good to be ignored by the public.

    oh okay!

for a boygroup, selling 300k is a sign of rising popularity (aju nice and pretty u both sold 300k) but it's considered quite low by the gp. a song starts being popular at around 800k downloads (that's how much i need u sold). in our era, what people call a national hit is around 2M but imo, for a song to be a Hit, you need more than only doing well on the charts.

boygroups are suffering a lot from stereotypes, especially since exo's growl. if you're a rookie boygroup and you're not from yg, they won't care about you. pd101 have a chance to change that tho, seeing how many upvotes they get on naver.

what seventeen and every boygroup need to focus on is their fandom: do concerts, release special videos, do vlives, tweet a lot, post pictures, be cute at fansigns etc. the public recognition will come one day, if they're lucky.

  3. No - I' know about I need U, I just thought that bts had their big breakout with DOPE, not the other way around. Whenever I read anything about them than this song is pretty much the first thing to come up in forums. That's a surprise, to be honest, I always thought it was the one song that made them so popular in Korea to begin with??!

Are you living in Korea by any chance?

    it was, international/sns wise.

no, not at all laugh.png but i remember the song dropping very quickly on the chart and with 300k sales, i doubt it's the song that made them break the korean music scene. (1st week sale was 20k-30k i think? so yeh)

but it's a classic now, and probably one of their most liked song, that's why we shouldn't focus too much on how dwc is doing rn. seventeen's time will come.

  4. i was gonna rant but i clicked the wrong button and i lost everything fml smile.png

i know some of you are a bit disappointed but pann aka carats' main platform of promotion is a big mess because of p101, no fandom can trend or promote anything anymore which can explain the lack of hype for this comeback. svt entirely rely on carats intense spamming, if they can't promote, it's complicated for them to get noticed.

+ other things i won't talk about here.

this 1st week sales is the 2nd highest for downloads and the 1st for streams. dwc seems to have a lot more longevity than pretty u.

i'm sure they'll do even better next comeback

Thanks blueskies ---- that was just the kind of information I was looking for. Nowadays, I'm becoming more and more interested in the charting system, and how all those numbers add up, not only in kpop, but internationally as well. This side of business has always interested me, so I'm trying to get more familiar with how it all works.

SEVENTEEN is doing really good with this comeback, however, I must admit I was expecting "DWC" to have a greater impact than it currently has. Of course the promotional period is still not over, and you can't write it of too soon, but in all honesty, my gut feeling was convinced this would catapult them to another level, fame-wise.

Not quite bt_s "DOPE" level, but close to that.

dwc is doing much better than dope, you're probably confusing it with i need u? dope had a bigger impact on youtube than on korean music charts

in comparison, Seventeen Al1 surpassed BT* young forever which is their 1st comeback in 2016. does it mean Seventeen KFandom was comparable to A*mys back then?

svt's k-fandom isn't at the level of k-armys in 2016, just by looking at their digital charts, carats are still weak. young forever was a repack, i think? with only 1 version and no fansign (i may be wrong). i think, if we really have to compare, dwc is their i need u, similar youtube views and digitals.

their trajectory are starting to look more and more similar uh

Rise Seventeen rise!!! I am sure it had to do with less people being online on weekends so the fans could stream more, but it still makes me proud to see them rise. Does anyone remember the first week ranking of Boom Boom on the Melon Chart? Thanks smile.png

    pretty u: 45 (1st week) - 56 (2nd week)

    aju nice: 68 - 67

    boom boom: 63 - 71

btw, about oricon, i don't see them on the chart either (neither ikon which is a bit weird). they are in tower records daily charts tho. we'll have to wait for tomorrow when weekly chart will be out.

  7. yeah I've seen people comment saying they were from korea so unless they being a catfish :derp:

    that's weird then, i don't know why she can't....

i'm dying at this kcarat trying to join OH I don't know why it won't work for them :( they're so cute I wanna hug them

......idk why i thought you were sleeping.

maybe we should tell them next time that they can reply in korean if it's easier for them cause we have translators as well.
