  2. There was also a trainee in Mixnine that liked to do that move, it wasn't as clean though

I didn't follow Mix9 for a variety of reasons (past updates on my girls 2/jin) but I'm kinda sad I didn't see this now, it's not an easy thing to do unless you have a gymnastic background to my understanding. Hopefully Hitomi gets a chance to showcase this particular ability bc it sure as hell got Xiao some recognition!

  3. Kaeun and Yoonjin ranks make sense to me. Kaeun ain't a great singer but she looked so polished and charismatic, really like a professional. Yoonjin is talented but doesn't quite have that same confidence or aura yet.

"really like a professional" it's almost like ... she is a professional lmfao I love her deeply and she exudes the confidence that comes with performing. Yoonjin will get there! I think they'll be a force together once she does.

    Wellmade Yedang Hwang Soyeon. She's 90th warstarplz.png

THE BIGGEST TRAGEDY THUS FAR that performance reminded me why I love girls I can't believe Korea's sleepin she better be the "Chung/ha" so to speak smh

I understand the argument that since the group will be promoting in Korea they need to make sure the Japanese girls can live up to that market's (perceived) standards for idols. But I don't see why the Korean trainees aren't expected to adjust themselves to the Japanese market as well, considering they will also be promoting there.

To judge them only on Korean standards seems counterproductive to me.

I think it's more so set up this way because charisma and that cute, fresh, whatever you want to call it factor is more what matters in jpop. The standards are basically to make your performances fun + cute for the audience. And there are kpop groups who do this, even if it's not super wide spread if that makes sense ? I'm pretty sure that's part of why Tw1ce has found wide success despite lacking ability at their debut compared to some of their contemporaries. They've got the training, but their personalities are what they're known + loved for.

Charisma as a performer is a super powerful thing which AKB has 100% not only capitalized on, but centered an entire business around. It's brilliant -- BUT it's only been 1 (2?) episode, which was an evaluation of skill. It's entirely possible they'll have challenges centered more around building up that charisma later in the season. I think for it to truly be a combo of the 48 brand + that kpop standard of ability, it can't be exactly like season 1, but I also (personally) don't think it will be if that makes sense. Having challenges centered around variety could be an interesting way to incorporate this aspect of the group?

Hitomi can backflip, something I don’t think any Kpop female idol has shown to do

  4. just saw some trans about BYJ's critique.

"the dance trainer told the Japanese trainees in Produce48 that "in kpop, "sharp" dance move is really popular among singers and dancers. In Japan, is it not that important?"

wow, that's harsh. I love it.

OO the shade. I love that the trainers don't mince words with the girls, it's part of why I liked the original show so much. Even if it's harsh, it does force improvement or weeds them out.

Not at all my faves being past 30 rlytearpls.png I haven't watched yet, did Seoyoung/Jinny/MogiShinobu/ImadaMina not get much screen time or did they just not do well ?

  5. Looking at Team 2 for Boombayah, they would’ve been great for literally any other song.

Wish they would’ve chosen a more fitting concept/song for them, then they’d kill it.

Potentially the point, esp seeing as two of the ex-YG trainees got a cuter concept + some known powerful dancers got simple choreo songs. Get the girls outside of their comfort zone to see exactly what concepts they can do?

  6. I feel like they'll push the ''almost debuted with Blackpink'' thing on Jinny quite a lot, similar to how they kept bringing up the ''YG swag'' Seoyeon has while she was on Idol School. I also fear that it will overshadow the fact Seoyoung was also in YG, and that they'll think she's not as important because she wasn't associated with a big group like Jinny was w/ Blackpink.

Jinny's mostly rap centered, Seoyeon is dance focused. I think a lot of it is gonna depend on the challenges and style of the songs their performing to determine who will shine, though they both will likely at least end up with agencies + an almost guaranteed debut after this. Jinny's likely going to get the BP association, but they'll both probs get screen time due to the YG training. I'm not too, too concerned about Seoyeon getting some amount of screentime given how good of a dancer she is.

  7. I think Idle will be along the lines of Jelly. Soyeon's debut may have been kinda a hint to what they'll do as a group, which ... Jelly was way different. I wouldn't worry about them having the same concept, the only true girl crush that CLC has done was Hobgoblin. Black Dress was more chic...I Like That is probs the closest they've come to that kinda concept.

  8. https://twitter.com/allkpop/status/984837675432710150

Allkpop with their baseless rumors yet again... Hanna is NOT joining Produce 48 and that girl is 100% Jinny! First of all, Hanna is still active on social media and she has short light brown hair lol whereas Jinny closed her IG and has long black hair

Natty + Jinny are almost certain (Natty might've left IS class, but it's possible she didn't -- her insta was closed a while ago iirc, but I didn't follow so I can't check rlytearpls.png) and Jinny stopped using hers around the time that confirmed AKB girls did too. Hanna's is still up. Jinny is more likely, esp given the visuals of the girl...Even blurred, the face shape + hair looked like a good match.

  9. The first thing you should know is that AKB48 is the first group in a sort of franchise called AKBG (AKB Group) consisting of AKB48 and their Japanese sister groups SKE48, NMB48, HKT48, NGT48 and STU48 in order of when they debuted. These groups are all centered around different cities, with AKB operating in Tokyo and acting as a "mother group" of sorts. AKB usually includes the most popular members from the other groups for their singles.

This was my favourite group single last year

It's centered by Shiroma Miru (Mirurun) who will be in the show. She's widely considered as the future star of the group and despite only being 20 she's been with the group since it started in 2010.

AKB and their sister groups get a lot of differing opinions, including criticism for not being hip and things like bikini mvs and general voyeurism, which is quite valid. But at the same time they treat their members better than KPOP groups in many respects, and the popularity of the members depends much less on looks than you might expect.

Miru is one of maybe 4 members I knew prior to this, mostly because she's been with the group so long, I'm hoping she does well!

  10. Quite surprise that we still don't know who is the MC.

By FNC denying that AOA members will participate in Produce48. Is it mean that there are no active participating idol on this show since AFAIK during Produce101 season 2 around the first filming that Nuest, Sanggyun (Topp Dogg) and Hotshot are confirming that they are participating?

Chanmi confirmed an audition, so I doubt it

  11. Oh boy if you only care about talent then the AKB girls aren’t for you.

But Yukirin is a decent singer with several solo releases, and Jurina, Ikumin are considered good dancers. The other girls just depend on your subjective opinion (as is usually the case with “talentâ€)x

Oh god no lmfao I love some of those classic "talentless" visuals, I'm just curious about how they'll compare to some of the rumored Korean girls in actual abilities. Popularity + visuals are definitely going to be a deciding factor as was proven w nearly all versions of this show, so I'm not so concerned.

a great place to learn about the individual akb girl is the stage48 website. it gives you their profile, fun facts, how they rank in ssk, etc.

akb's main focus isn't talent, even though a lot of the girls are talented. they just tend to lack the polish that korean groups go for, which is why a lot of fans who only stan kpop groups think they're untalented. they just look for different things in their idols.

Stage48 is good for member profiles. The 48g are just hard to ease into.

    some song recs:

    UZA

    High Tension

    Koisuru Fortune Cookie

    Beginner

    River

Agree with starting at Stage48 website. Some of their MVs and stuff are on youtube, and you might be able to find some performances. And they definitely look for different things in their idols. AKB48 was originally built around an "idol you can meet" concept, and they have a lot of fan interaction + the theater that has really frequent performances. Honestly, I think Produce48 could be good for them in terms of drawing out the ability and polish that kpop fans like. Since they've never trained in a kpop idol system, they may look "less talented" to begin with, but the show will probably accelerate their learning. I was actually searching on YouTube for stuff too since I don't know the recent members, and I thought this vid was pretty good actually.

    edit:

I was also watching "Make Noise" and "Must Be Now".

Thank you all so much! I'll start with Stage48 and some of their social media given the explanation of concept smile.png Trying to find who I'm rooting for from the 48 girls is gonna be a lot more difficult for me I think lmfao

  12.

So if the rumor it's actually true and Yujin makes it into the group what will happen with her CLC activities? She won't be able to do comebacks with them by contract?

So the way the contract is rumored to work is similarly to AKB48, where the members are all from different companies + have individual activities outside of the group + get together for 1-2 singles a year? I don't follow them, so I don't know for sure, but that's my understanding, so it wouldn't super interfere with CLC.

  13. i'm not sure she's in a company currently. i think she might be a personal trainee. i don't really follow her, so someone who actually does will know more i'm sure.

Most likely individual, she's been releasing music but her instagram was public, I still follow + have access to it, but it's locked now and only was after P48 decisions seemed to be made.

Can someone who follows akb48 tell me how talented the girls are or give me a place to start learning abt them? I know I've seen some shade thrown on Twitter towards some of them for lacking ability, but I'm wondering how true that is given it could just be bitterness resurfacing unsure.png
