I love Choyeon, but her company's been testing me ever since 2018

Gfriend. It was so sudden. If we'd get some news earlier, maybe even last song/concert/fanmeet, in general if it looked like it was the girls' planned decision, I'd still be sad, but I'd accept it and move on.  But the way they couldn't even confidently say your standard "I'll meet you through various activities in the future" that all idols changing to actors/influencers/soloists  say and had to resort to "I'll try to keep singing", "I'll try to think of the way to repay you"... I'm happy they look good now, seem to still be supportive friends to each other and are getting picked up by good agencies, but I'm just so salty about everything surrounding their disbandment.

I think Sowon posting this it’s a bit like a western celebrity posting rising sun flag. She didn’t know what it meant, because in her culture it isn’t that important, but now that she knows, she should delete (she did) and apologize.

Also, a note as someone who was taught Korean history by a Korean teacher: when Koreans talk about WWII, they talk about Japan, China, US and Russia. From their point of view they talk about Japan forcing Koreans to help war efforts and Japanese war crimes, including comfort women, and then they go straight to end of the war and all the mess about multiple independence movements and getting divided. During world history they focus much more on what was happening in Asia instead of Europe. Generally I'd say the awarness about that part of history is pretty low especially among young Koreans, many of them that I talked with didn't really know what Holocaust was. So I’m not that surprised that Sowon didn’t recognize that uniform and connect it with WWII.

I loved No Good Reason too! And Gfriend's albums were quality as always, I especially liked Better Me, Eye of the Storm and Here We Are.

I don't even need to talk about Navillera, but Water Flower always puts a smile on my face, Compass is wonderful, and Mermaid is a masterpiece. Even songs that I wasn't completely sold on grew on me so much after watching the performances, especially LOL choreo is so fun! There was a time when I was listening to this album every day

Recently she also went on I Can See Your Voice (1, 2) and opened personal Instagram. Other than Hyunbin we know two trainees who will debut with her: PD48 participants Kim Choyeon (Fire girl who auditioned with Hyuna's Lip and Hip) and Son Eunchae (Instruction team center). The group will most likely have 7 members, but the rest of them haven't been officially revealed yet. Good way to keep up with them is following Ateam's trainee Twitter, they repost all Instagram posts in one place. Ateam's future girl group is already full of talent, so support them!

 

Like some people already said, Big Hit didn't really make it, Buddies were writing essays speculating about it since Navillera (Eunha being a ghost? following blue butterflies? running through time?) and Gfriend themselves were talking about the way their MVs are connected and how you can interpret them. The only new thing in this video is the part about powers, though if you count Japanese relases it was shown in Memoria, and expect for Fingertip  the focus wasn't really on jealousy as much as being torn apart and trying to go back together. Anyway, I'm excited for the song and the MV, especially because person behind this video also did TFTMN MV which is one of my absolute favorites!

Hi, it's Choyeon! For the first time in a while I got a vacation break and went to my hometown, Hwasun. Today I'm practicing hard at the company, but what am I practicing~? You're curious, right? Wait a bit longer!

Hi! Haven't been here for a while, I'm having some problems right now, but NU'EST boys are always here to cheer me up   I'm so glad to see them happy, their albums are selling good, announced concerts, shows, now also first of hopefully more wins! And today my albums arrived, faster than ever (...because I had to chose more expensive shipping, the weight was too much for usual one). I've been blessed by Minhyun this comeback, it's been a while, so it feels good~ I got one poster, one CD and 4 photocards with him, it was so funny when he just kept appearing. (Edit: just caught up a bit, sorry for bragging, NuC )And I'm really happy I got the group poster too, I really wanted it! And I got two Baekho photocards I thought were the same, but the lighting is a bit different, so I guess he just found a good angle and decided to stick with it haha The only thing I got with Aron was one photocard, I'm a bit sad about it because visually he's really killing it this comeback (...when is he not though), but still lots of Minhyun and a bit of everyone else is definitely not a bad thing!

 

Also, let me ramble a bit about the songs, because this is what I love doing. Bet Bet is perfect in every way possible and performances make the song even better, especially the second verse, JR-Aron-Ren one after another make such a strong impression. And it's one of the hardest choreos they've had in a while, I'm proud of them executing it so well! And I can't forget about the MV, I agree they could've focused a bit more on the storyline, but still it's so well produced, so epic and magnificent that I just keep watching it over and over again.

 

I love Segno, somehow it feels like a sequel to Polaris, I'm happy they chose it to perform on music shows, and 'I'm turning back to you' Bass seems to be everyone's favorite, for me verses are better than the chorus, but it's still very fun song, I especially like the use of different effects on JR's voice, and I hope we'll see it live, just like Shadow and RLTL. Let's Talk About Love is okay, but not really much more, it's a cute song that I enjoy when it's playing and don't miss when it's over. I think Different is my second favorite on this album! It's lively, has both cool and more lighthearted parts, and something about the way Aron says 'Different' is oddly satisfying haha Fine is Ren's song, he truly shines in it. And the moment I've heard it at the end of MV I just went 'okay, gotta listen to it immediately'. But Baekho comes close to shouting during the bridge... In the rest of the song his voice sounds full and he has no problems with 'Utopia' parts, so I guess it was stylistic choice? but one I didn't really enjoy.

 

Anyway if it wasn't clear, I really love this comeback and I hope the boys can feel our support

BTW back in December Choyeon briefly appeared in girl group Saturday's reality show, she was introduced as Chohee's friend and they went to buy snacks at the school shop (they both go to Hanlim):

i don't know if this will be controversial but i really am enjoying time for the moon night japanese version more than korean version? literally a masterpiece

 

Same, but with Navillera, somehow I like it more than Korean version, especially 'You and me/Me and you' in the chorus. Also, I think their whole Japanese discography needs more appreciation, even though it's not that big yet. Memoria, La Pam Pam, Flower and Beautiful are all great songs that show different sides of Gfriend and I can't wait for their announced Japanese album!

Highlights from Choyeon's live:

 

Going to Malaysia was her first time on plane and first time overseas, so everything seemed new and exciting. The weather was great, especially in comparision to Korea where it was still cold.

 

She's on diet and it's hard, she only eats more for breakfast, things like fruits, pancakes, potatoes. She already lost 4 kg.

 

Promoted VAV, showed their album, gushed about how they're good performers and singers and wants to be like them.

 

Didn't give a clear answer when asked when she's going to debut, just smiled and said to wait a bit longer, but she'll debut for sure.

 

She likes red color.

 

Currently she's just attending school, practicing and dieting. She also likes reading. English name of the book she's recommended is 'The daily book of positive quotations', it's a book that helps her through hard times, she especially likes chapters 'Actions are more important than words' (it gave her courage to practice singing high notes, until then she was afraid to even try), 'Let's live passionately' (she wants to always be lively and young and believe she can do everything she wants to) and 'Only prepared people can take advantage of the opportunity' (she's preparing to debut with this mindset). She reads a lot of self-help books.

 

She's doing the live in vocal practice room.

 

She wants to get driver's license someday, but it seems a bit scary, so she's not sure if she'd be able to do it.

 

Tried to talk a bit in Japanese, but gave up quickly and just thanked Japanese fans and promised to study more.

 

Eunchae seemed a bit more comfortable with Japanese, it was so cute when Choyeon was repeating after her

 

Eunchae was just passing by, but Choyeon noticed her and called her to join.

 

She really likes Itzy's Dalla Dalla, also congratulated Everglow on their debut.

 

Asked a few times if she's doing good, it's only her second live, so she's nervous.

 

I love the person who asked her about the meaning of her name, I also wanted to know it! She explained that Hanja in her name is 'cho' as 'outstanding, striking' and 'yeon' as 'beautiful', together it means 'strikingly beautiful', her father named her. I think her name is composed of those characters: 超㜻 That's super interesting, let me nerd out about it for a second

 

She wants to dye her hair, but her hair condition is not that good, and she's still attending school, so it'd be hard.

 

She ate an apple for dinner... And repeated a few times that she wants to become prettier. Hope she's taking care of herself.

I realized I never really got around translating Fact in Star (that show with Choyeon, Yujin, Doa and Haesol). I found my notes about the uncut version (I watched only about 15 minutes and Yujin was talking first, so they're mostly about her), but it seems like that version is now deleted and there's only broadcast version, so for now enjoy some highlights from live broadcast that didn't make the final cut:

 

Haesol whispered to Choyeon 'You're really tall', Choyeon responded 'You're taller!'

 

Choyeon was surprised when she heard the staff will give them food and drinks and kept asking if it was for real. In the end she got strawberry yoghurt like Doa and helped Haesol choose her blueberry yoghurt.

 

The MC had to remind her to look at the camera and not only at the person she's talking to.

 

Choyeon is close with Yujin because they go to the same school. They've found out about it after they talked during PD48 shooting. Choyeon thinks Yujin is the prettiest girl in the whole school.

 

Even back when Yujin didn't know Choyeon's name, she saw her often in school cafeteria and her friend kept saying Choyeon looks like Kyulkyung from Pristin. Yujin feels disappointed they haven't talked before and didn't sit next to each other when PD48 started. She said Choyeon's personality is really good, even though she looks a bit cold she's actually easy-going, it's something they have it in common. They fist-bumped after this.

 

Yujin also choose Choyeon as fitting for girl crush concept and mentioned she got 'Blockberry unnie' as her nickname because Choyeon called her that in the first episode.
