Okay, I apologize for taking you for a non-competent in male kpop scene person, because that "me saying companies don't use shipping to their advantage (which you seem to think I said, for some reason)" was exactly how I understood you. That was an assumption based purely on your badges, because the posibility of a person being into male kpop and not understanding the profitable part of shipping seems surreal. I mean, female and male kpop differ, I thought you were looking at latter in the same light as at former. That's why I brought up Yunjae and Hunhan, to give the examples, because, once again, I misunderstood the reasons upon which you found my musing nonsensical and took you for yet another person who thinks companies are unaware of the whole shipping thing and do not set the on-camera relationships within the groups, this thread's seen many of those. I've seen a few theories on tumblr as to why Bighit have chosen Yoonmin/Vhope/Kookiemoster/Jimxall, why they dumped HYYH headcanon ships, why they felt the need to even assign ships to every version of album. These theories have either biblical/mythological ground or cheating. None of them made much sense to be honest, therefore I don't see any other reason for Bighit to put shipping into good use other than to give ARMY additional reason to buy more albums. I also do not understand how is this "reaching", "in the know" kind of information and "conspiracy theory", if this is the most obvious, the simplest and THE ONLY plausible explanation I've seen. How is what I said isn't "utilizing shipping to gain a profit"? The Yunjae campaign was so successful that even people in Korea recognized not only the impact it had on group's and hallyu's popularities but also them as a couple, they were considered Korean royal family. Other agencies picked up this tactic from SM and started applying it. 2). Luhan, the most popular Chinese male celebrity in China, and Sehun, one of the most popular Korean celebrities in China, owe their popularity IN CHINA to Hunhan's promo SM did in the past, that's a well known fact, you can't imagine just how crazy the hype was. What I said may sound ridiculous, but trust me, for 3,5 years of existing of this thread so much tea has been spilled, that if you were to read all 2403 pages of it, like I did, you would learn all techniques, all strategies agency use to attract attention and turn it into coins. In this industry everything that happens in front of the camera is scripted, everything is planned beforehand, because it is a matter of money. It is fun to you but a source of income to them, they don't fuck around. I assume you are a girl group stan, mostly, at least? No, gurl, you don’t see my logic, look: Bangtan’s canons: Yoonmin, Vhope, Namjin, yeah? HYYH canons: Sugakookie, Vmon, Jihope, yeah? Currently Bangtan’s most popular ships (according to the number of fics at least): Yoonmin, Vkook, Jikook Hoseok’s most popular ships in Korea (according to the number of fics on Korean site, don’t know which, I just saw a screenshot): Yoonseok, Vhope, Junghope (same goes for ao3, except instead of Junghope there's Jihope) Sooooo, obviously Jin is off limits, since he is a protagonist. Yoonmin, the most popular ship, cannot be broken, that makes Yoongi and Jimin off limits, THEREFORE NO JIKOOK, NO JIHOPE, NO SUGAKOOKIE, NO YOONSEOK, NO TAEGI, yeah? Which leaves us with Taehyung, Jungkook, Namjoon and Hoseok. They could have paired up Taekook and get their money from one version, but that would be inconsiderate of Namjoon and Hoseok, because they are the least popular members (in Korea, at least), the least popular ship, and the difference in sales of versions would be drastic. Therefore pairing up Taehyung, the most popular member, with Hoseok and Jungkook, second most popular, with Namjoon is much much much wiser dicision, because Kookiemonster is popular in Japan and Vhope is canon. I do think so, too, but I also think that Hoseok’s change of heart (drastic, in December of 2015 they were still awkward but in January of 2016 they were back at being lovebirds, smiling at each other, doing skinship) didn’t come out of nowhere, I mean they had very strained relationship for a year and then BAM, it’s Boy in Luv era yet again. She even modeled for a Korean brand J.Estina alongside Kim Soohyun (pretty big deal, judging by prices on goods and celebrities who were faces of this brand). As for why Taehyung could have chosen her, of all people, why many idols choose Western celebrity instead of Korean: it's safe. They know how immature fans can be, know that by naming a Korean/attainable celebrity they are going to subject said person to the wrath of their fans, know that being in the same vicinity with their ideal type is enough to start a dating rumor. So, picking a Western/unattainable-for-number-of-reasons celebrity as your ideal type is, well, safe, wise and considerate. Especially if the beauty of that person is wildly recognised. So, when an idol names a Western celebrity as their ideal type it doesn't necessarily PROVES they like older women (Sehun-Miranda Kerr), bad girls (Hongbin-Rihanna), doesn't make them black(Namjoon)/white(Taemin) or skinny(Key)/curvy(Lay, Jin) fetishists (these are the conclusions I personally saw people make based on the ideal types).
