BTS were overwhelmingly #1 (their popularity in the US is undeniable)
But in the end, Black Pink won all 3 awards

Last year, Bangtan won all of the 3 awards and the Social Awards

So people expected them to win this year too

If they had a reason not to award them for anything since they won too many last year or what not,
then they should've just not advertised about it. They were promoting it using BTS and people voted like crazy but they ended up making a decision regardless of the votes

Hate comments are obviously one of the reasons, whether a big or small part or not, but I don't think it was the entire reason.
