I agree. I don't think she was terrible but her voice was not 100% there. It's kind of sad how normal that is for her though. And that's not her fault. It's just bad she had a bad day at an award show (with a shorty sound system).aah that makes sense. I do believe the stream and bad sound system made it sound worse than it was but they most definitely put in a different audio performance. I found it weird when watching it live because she sounded fine for GITM,I Swear and TMB(although she skipped the high note in TMB). Her voice sounded good yesterday at Seoul Music Awards and she looked sooo happy. I hope that happiness is related to the results of the first episode of IAAS3 which she recorded for the day before SMA.
I can't wait for IAAS3, although she is stressing her own self out over that.

were we fooled by the livestream????

she sounds fine here, I'm confused

This was a recent upload (like just yesterday).
Here is an older clip.

They must have slapped a different audio of a performance onto this one. They probably performed this earlier for whatever reason and just replaced the real audio with the new one.

the entire thing was a mess :/ I'm glad she stopped the high note in the middle. I think she was sick, checking the pix she doesn't look well at all.
it hurt so much watching it, she was clearly in a bad condition yet they had to have her sing a duet and Spend My Life of all songs smh
I didn't watch Sistar's performance but I was told her E5(?) in GITM was fine, they performed I Swear, TMB & GITM
speaking of her doing poorly, I think this one takes the cake , her voice was gone:"(
Sistar haven't attended any festivals since their China concert(people said she didn't sound good there), that is 2 week ago, I wonder what is keeping her busy vocally. Either she's sick or she's been doing a lot of rehearsals behind the scenes. Or both(which I think)
Her voice was shot!!!
I heard about the China concert, and did not watch any clips because...wow. They said her and Soyu were sick. And watching it...she was hardly audible (as was Soyu).
Like she has powered through days where her voice wasn't in top conditions (sick, exhausted, etc), but that was sad to watch.
She may need to go see a doctor just in case something is going awry.
-
That performance was garbage (not even just on her, that entire performance was just...bad). Her voice just collapsed. I know there is probably rehearsal, but shit...she has never done this poorly.
Does anyone know how she did on Touch My Body? I can't seem to find a performance out there.

I didn't know he had his own thread (or that he ws somewhat active on social media)
Anyway I think/hope/praying what happened with Yeeun is going to happen to him soundwise. Yeeun pretty much made a US vibe album and sung in Korean, it was much darker and less animated than most of K Pop. G. Soul stayed in New York and basically got to watch what happened in the states for years. Hopefully he will bring that darker alt R&B sound that has been gaining some traction over the last few years (or at the very least some Miguel type of songs)
Anyway I'm just happy he debuting.

ikr!! the concert is still going since after the performances they have an after party so i don't think we will get anything anytime soon it's an all night party so...
Did anyone livetweet (like I would understand), I wanna know what I need to skip.
Also I'm praying they got Soyu and Hyorin to sing together (a sucker for their voices in duets)
-
I need clips of this concert because Bang Bang.

Here it is.
I love the video. The song is nice...

That song sounds like it's gonna be cute. I just hope it goes somewhere...I haven't been overly impressed with the November releases, so I hope Hyorin and Jooyoung give me something that gives me life.
The Melon performance was nice, of course mama was on point, and it looks like they finally got her extensions to blend. I didn't hate her red carpet look, but that tiny grey and pink pattern was...it should have been a solid color. Like when is someone gonna take the suit look seriously and come out in a full suit like the dudes? Or has that happened...anyway, it wasn't terrible, and she was the best dressed out of Sistar (the concept was trash though)
Also did y'all see the the tweet 1theK posted about Hyolyn and Jooyoung doing duet songs? They were asking about duet songs for them to sing. I don't know if that was brought up...but yeah.
Edit: Her styling in these teasers are divine.

How many times/songs can we request?
I know she is no t going to sing every single no I request but how many songs can you do?
If that makes sense

I think the festival and concert arrangers have a say in her song list choices too. I also think that maybe she might not have the time to make arrangements for the songs in her album. Idk, I just want her to cover something new, I hope she surprises us tomorrow. I'm tired of people putting labels on her when she's just Hyorin and she showed that with her album. However, it doesn't make it easy when Starship still keep pushing her in that direction to a certain extent. I'm happy her album was very much Hyorin and nothing else, but I wish she got a chance to promote her songs more than do the same covers all the time.
It also doesn't help by the fact that not everyone that goes to these festivals knows her album songs. These are not all Hyorin fans so chances are a lot of them couldn't tell you what Falling is. Remember SK doesn't do multiple singles off an album. You get one, two at most, on the regular, and then a song that gets a couple of performances at music shows. Hyorin doing covers is padding, because people are likely to know the songs. Plus they only do well known songs for covers (Halo, Sweet Dreams, End Of Time is a stretch, Crazy In Love occasionally) so it's not like they venture to the depths of someone's catalog on the regular.

she definitely had it down, I'm still shocked at how she managed to even nail the performance with so little practise. That week when she was recording for IS2, Starship sent Sistar to festivals left and right. If I remember correctly they had 4 back to back festival performances 2 days before the recording and on the day of the rehearsal(which was 1 day before the recording) Hyorin had a couple of other festival performances. That week was so busy that Idk how she even found time to learn the song and choreo. You are so right, give Hyorin enough time to rest her voice and she'll blow you away like never before. She definitely brought it, the only sad thing is that she would slay even harder if it wasn't for a tired voice. The break she got after OWL era truly showed how capable she is with only rest.
See now why was I blanking on that week? And that was a decent week for her vocally (at least I think it was). But to think this may be light work compared to other times for her and other groups.
Her valentine's Day set, and collab stage with that Rock Group are some of her best this year (only surpassed by Starship X concert), and I am mad we don't talk about it enough.
Exactly. She has already possessed the right techniques because we have all witnessed her consistent slayage of those notes before. She has great understanding of her own voice and its weaknesses, that's why she improves by leaps and bounds during the last two years. I also don't think that she needs more time to practice, but rather more time to recover from the prolonged fatigue resulted by excessive amount of activities.
Idol culture creeps me out because they do all this work, only to be tired and not get 100% of the benefits that they could get.
I didn't realize just how packed that week was for Hyorin, and from her performance I wouldn't have been able to tell. She didn't even sound/look unsure to me.
Right now I want her to just chill, write some cute songs we will never hear
because starship ain't shit, and get ready to record her next album. Take some vocal lessons, play with her cats...just chill out.Of course she has a few things scheduled (nothing too close together I don't think/remember), but Sistar can take a break for now, and do other things tbh.
Also she needs to stop dying her hair. Just let it be brown for awhile.

You could definitely see a difference from her other Is2 performances. She worked the crowd like never before and did her best. Her English was also on point and her best imo, but you could tell she was vocally exhausted and I hate Starship for throwing her into so many events prior to her IS2 performances not leaving her enough time to practise and rest. That note when she sang the word "satisfied", damn you Starship.
Michael Bolton looked impressed.
I don't even think she needed the practice, she had it down, she was just vocally tired (thank you for confirming that she had other stuff that day, I couldn't remember if she did or didn't). Every time Hyorin is exhausted her throat closes up. Same thing happened at IAAS, at least here she was able to get up to Eb5 with no issue.
She came to kill, and if that had been her only obligation, she would have been top form.
This is usually a thing with Hyorin though: you spread her thin and it shows vocally, but give her time to rest and she will sound like she never had problems (that tiny break she had between OWL era and February is a good example)

Ugh her IS2 performance was damn near perfect. Her energy and life on stage killed me.Listening to it, without watching, she just has so much more life in her voice, and confidence. And the vocals were only an issue at the top notes. But this is definitely one of her best performance wise.

Here is a newly updated live vocal range of Hyorin! A lot of 2013-2014 notes, no new extended range, but just overall improvements and such. I really do wish she would improve her lower register (lowest new note is an E3) and upper extension (highest new note live is G#5), but it will happen when it happens I suppose.

omg that Tori girl is killing it WOW!!edit i really
never thought i hyorin can be considered as a sobrette i was surprised when she said that
Well a sobrette really is just a LLS with a brighter even more girlish sound. Usually they grow into Light Lyrics with age.
-
I feel that Hyorin shines more in songs that don't require her to belt a lot/songs that show off the beauty of her voice because her beautiful tone becomes the focus, but I don't want her to stop singing songs that require her to belt either
. I enjoy her high notes. I think Hyorin is still finding herself vocally and her voice has matured and will continue to. Also, I thought because she's a light lyric soprano she should be singing in that range/be comfortable there?I'm not very familiar with Cindy Herron and Tinashe but aren't their voices smaller than Hyorin's? Especially Tinashe's?
I think Cindy's voice is around the same size, her voice isn't naturally big. Tinashe's voice is small as well as well (her new album was just released and it is good).
Here is a vocal range video of Cindy
Even though this video uses belts (I made it), Cindy is all about her accuracy. She never really focused on being a big voice, just using her voice as accurately as possible.
Another good example would be like Tori Kelly.
Tori is a small voice who is really agile. In this clip she is belting, and hitting high notes, but what really attracts me are her runs. That is something she is good at (especially around the breakdown), her agility is sickening.
It's not that I don't think Hyorin can do it. I mean we know she can. I think her being a big voiced diva type is not in her cards really, and she would do so much more playing up her strengths right now.
Like her album was perfect because it was a mix of different things.
Edit: also her being a light lyric does give her comfort up there but mostly in comparison to other voices. What being a soprano does is help her shine up there. Ideally her voice is supposed to sound at it's best in those regions, but Hyorin wasn't as good as she is now back then. Like as we saw in her early years anything above a D5 was a struggle at one point. Scratchy, strained, tense, all that. Now because she has improved she is shining up there more. And the vocal fach system was made to pinpoint singers in classical singing, so part of Hyorin's voice where we would hear and go "yep she is a Light Lyric for sure" is not in use often. You can still tell she is an LLS/Sobrette just by listening to her regardless, and her voice in other aspects (mix, middle, etc) do still fit the bill as well: but she isn't working on a fully fleshed out voice.

I'm so happy she finally did an analysis, and the fact that she's become a fan. Hyorin definitely has immense potential and I can't wait to see what the future hold for her. I hope Hyorin continues to improve and becomes great.
Still so happy about the fact that she did an analysis

I'm so happy she took the time to do this, because she really didn't have to (props to everyone who helped her find stuff) considering she is doing a lot outside of youtube.
I feel like such a bandwagoner for saying this, but I agree with her about not trying to be a powerhouse. It's great that Hyorin can belt it out and do this and that (especially since she has improved in those areas that Dileesa brought up, though she still has a ways to go), but her voice is just not naturally inclined for that. Stay in your lane and do what is naturally best for your voice in order for it to shine. I think she could do like Cindy Herron of En Vogue vocally, or Tinashe.

Dileesa posted her Hyorin vocal analysis (For her Truthful Tuesdays)
She basically said a lot that has been stated: remove the airiness, below F3 her lower register is meh. While she didn't go super into her upper register, she did comment on how her breaks from chest to head were slowing her down (basically not connected). Also she thinks Hyorin has a Mariah Carey-esque vibe, and explains that due to the fact Mariah's instrument was fuller and richer, she could handle it, but Hyorin's is smaller in size so it can come off shrill when trying to emulate that big voice like style (which I agree with, especially during pre-2013). Also she can be hesitant when it comes to doing things in terms of agility (she has an idea of what she wants to do, but it doesn't always happen)
She did say that most of what she heard was during the ages of 19-22 (basically pre 2013/2014). However the most Hyorin has done is begun working on her consistency in her upperbelts and head voice, and is a little more fluid in terms of agility. But the problems that she addressed still remain.
Also she thinks she is a soubrette
Basically there is a lot of potential in there, and while she has improved, she needs more time (if we take take Dileesa's word, in about 5-8 yers, she should be close to starting her vocal prime...if all goes smoothly) to get to where she can be great. Which is basically what has been stated many times.
