  1. I find it ironic in how "some" people anxiously waited and are celebrating for Tzuyu's birthday for "certain" reasons. It's something to be happy and memorable for her, but I actually feel scared for her and any other idols who are about to meet their 18th birthday now after finding what's going on at a "part" of this website. How is this sexual objectification of idols this website encourages different from punishing shoplifters while saying pickpocketing is all right?
  2. That has to be one of the disgusting thing I ever heard. This is why I dislike those "merchandising" aspects with certain member specific things so you have to buy multiple albums to get what you want. Some of the most popular members would be valued like a million dollar hit, while others would be treated as throwaway/losing ticket or something. I heard similar things happening with SNSD Hyoyeon merchandises, and it shows "objectifying" sides of Kpop. These girls are also people with feelings and you can't judge their value at a group as simple objects that come with an album especially when she's the main vocal and a leader. I really wish she never hears about such stories as this.
  3. Okay, I finally finished watching all the Twice interviews (busy with job, etc), and here are my opinions about each of them. Momo: She is really like a little kid, really naive and ingenuous. But even with that, she's very professional person whom you can always expect the best from her when she's doing her job. I agree with her having "two sides" and that's why she's a member that drags you in the most. Jungyeon: She's really mature for her age. You can say she's really good wife material and it's no wonder so many of the members picked her as the member they would date if they were a man. Dahyun: She has this tendency/concerns to exaggerate herself to give answers and acts which pleases people. She also has very quick awareness and it's no wonder she has this "power" to notice cameras. In good words, she's really polite and has what it takes to be a star on screen, but in bad words, she hides herself a lot. Mina: They surely do like her giggles, don't they? From the first ever Sixteen teaser, it's like her trademarks whenever she's on a show. Was disappointed Chaeyoung is no longer her bias, lol. It's not a coincidence, but she reminded me AOA's Mina at some shots. Jihyo: She's really honest and I have to say her interview was my favorite. She impressed me with her responsibility and gave the most information about her and her group. She talked about "us" more than "me" and that's enough to show why she's a good leader. Sana: Her Korean is really good except one or two mispronunciations, but still enough to make her one of the best foreign speakers at Kpop despite debuting on the scene only a year ago. And speaking of the Korean skills of the members, Sana has perfect control of organizing sentences and descriptions except ㄱ/ã…‹/ㄲ and ã…“/ã… pronunciations. Momo is about as good but she has this nasal tone which may make it more difficult to understand for Korean people (but also her strength like her Zㅗ르Zㅣ마 part). Mina talks Korean as she would to Japanese (I showed her vid to a friend and he instantly asked me whether she was Japanese because of the way she talked). Tzuyu's Korean skill is on a level where she builds sentences and words inside her heads, and speak it out once she's done it (in another way, on intermediate level and not as instant and fluent as Sana/Momo).
  4. Lol, didn't you even read correctly what I was saying? I said even they did nothing, Korean netizens will drag them and pick on the littlest things into supposed scandals like that Yoomin's comment on Japanese drama remake or their far family and relatives did any nationalistic things or how Chinese picked on Tzuyu for those "evidences." Or if they do similar to what Tiffany did even they were completely unaware, it's an instant kick from the group. You have to consider every worst possibilities since one wrong mistake ruins everything like T-ara. Yes, I am Korean and I am sure JYP had total knowledge on what happened early this year and SM did everything to predict Tiffany's mishap today. Lol, I remember reading far back into Sixteen days, people were commenting it's unlikely they would pick more than two Japanese members for exact reason what I said there. His decision wasn't wrong for now, but the time will tell. You may not give a damn about it, but if it's popular and used for nationalistic purposes at Korea, can you no longer give a damn about it? I have to say I agree with everything you said. They are indeed the first Japanese people Korean people can look closely outside these "monsters" and "enemies" Korean media display them as and far off from how Korean nationalists stereotype their characteristics and women. And I am thankful for them because all those three gave up their stable lives at their own country for an uncertain chance to become idols at a new country where they have to learn entirely new culture at a new environment. That's why I worry because as much as I like them, it would be very tough to lose them if these risky things happen in the future.
  5. I actually didn't like JYP picking three Japanese members as Twice because of the same reason. Don't get me wrong, it's not because I dislike any one of them, but it will increase the chances of them getting into these kinds of trouble than when it's just one or two members. You can't imagine the victim mentality of these Korean netizens, they will come up with anything or any excuses to claim how much foreigners especially Japanese are trying to offend and scheming conspiracies against them. For example, they will argue if a manager of a team a Korean player is playing (like Alex Ferguson and Park Jisung) don't use that Korean player, that's because he's racist. If Korea gets robbed at Olympics (which happened several times already) they will claim those things only happen to Korea because Korea is so weak and every countries want to take advantage of them. When a Japanese actress Yoomin mentioned she liked original Japanese drama than the Korean remake, they claimed she is a Japanese supremacist (which isn't even true, because she was one of the first Japanese at Korean entertainment and kept coming back because of her affection to Korea). I know it would look like Koreans love foreign Twice members right now, but I know just like that baseball commentator at MLT when Twice came (that guy who spoke Japanese to them to feel friendly and then went on talking about how Korea taught "Japanese punks" a lesson by beating them at that baseball tournament at his broadcasting part moments later) they will be different whenever these nationalistic things come up. These things work like black/white mentality, if one of the relative of a far relative of one member did some offensive thing to Korea, they will drag in that member to those "black" side and say she's the same as her relative of her relative. They will be very discouraged to show anything relevant to Japanese culture, because Korea has history of censoring and blocking some of the Pokemon episodes because of kimono and ninja references. And having three Japanese members who have potential to cause all these seemed like too much risks for me. You have to know these three members of Twice are the first Japanese members from a major company and whom everyone knows about. So when even the littlest thing they can pick on happen to just one of the members, things are going to blow out of scale just like Tzuyu and the Chinese. To say something relevant, I find it very uncomfortable when Momo kept associating herself with jokbal and kept promoting herself with it. When I first saw her Sixteen teaser, I thought whether she was playing around the minds of people or something. Of course, now I know she's too simple minded to do such and just likes that food, but it may work different to some others. A word which came from the very same food is one of the most common insults used against Japanese along with "monkeys." So imagine an unaware black person born in Hispanic culture going around at U.S. he likes color "negro" very much. That's about the same as how Momo would be looked upon to these nationalistic Koreans. At a popular wiki site at Korea, Momo's page was the only one out of Twice members to be locked from vandalism, and I suspect the mentioned above can be why. So just for some alerts beforehand, calling her a "jokbal" isn't a nice thing to some.
  6. Hi, Mina fans. May I ask where this GIF is from?
  7. I am just surprised at the coincidence cheeseburger aegyo our Jiyeonnie does originated from a highkick episode where T-ara Jiyeon came as one-time guest (at 3:02). I guess Jiyeonnie does carry the legacy of the other Jiyeon with that aegyo.
  8. Hopefully I am not late (it's still not the 8th at U.S West, lol), but I want to say congratulations on 1st anniversary of you know what. I have to say JYP did make the right decision to bring Momo back then despite the controversies, and I am still surprised at her change from how gloomy and timid she was at Sixteen. But thankfully, we got to know what kind of person she really was outside the stress and pressure of the survival show, and she proved many doubtful people wrong with her skills and bright personality now. But at the same time, I am still wondering how other eliminated members would have fared looking at how Momo turned out to be at real life. I really do think people like Minyoung and Jiwon did have fun and silly sides like Momo is right now, except they never got the chance to show those. I personally think they should have waited a little for another chance at Produce 101 like Somi and Kara Project members did instead of leaving the company. However, leaving every could have, would have aside, I want to thank JYP for bringing these members together and the girls working their ways to reach the top like they are doing right now.
  9. About this vocal thing, I think part of the reason is JYP never promoted their members as strong vocalists. If you remember back to Sixteen survival show, none of the current members of Twice was mentioned as main vocal materials, that went to Minyoung and Jiwon who didn't make it. So this is where Twice doesn't have any main vocalist argument comes from. I think Jihyo's skills are very underestimated since she wasn't promoted as a main vocal material since back then, but Korean wiki on her says otherwise: "She was praised for singing Megan Trainer's All about the bass without much problem. For additional information, this is a song even the original singer herself has a hard time singing it perfectly live with chorus." "She has a loud voice with good range and cool tone. She also has a good expression and can digest from trot to dance music. Her specialty allows broader concept Twice can do." Also Nayeon was first known as a member who can both sing and has looks. I actually like her singing parts more than the other members, because she has this unique tone which is unique yet strong. You have to remember Twice is a rookie less than a year old and about half of their members are foreigners. Also remember the very goal of Sixteen survival show, which was to find stars not to pick the best vocalists or dancers. If that was the case, people would have voted for and JYP would have picked Minyoung and Jiwon as members. I think JYP has confidence on Jihyo and Nayeon as the main vocals, and other members like Tzuyu and Mina has unique singing tone and has potential to improve with years of experience. Groups where every single members are strong vocalists and popular at the same time are very rare nowadays. I don't think Gfriend is also this case because they have one member who's really really good, and others not as much. You have to remember companies like JYP already tried their ways with "everyone is a strong singer" groups and learned from their experiences to learn what makes their groups popular. But if they have a group which every members are bad at singing despite claiming as singers, that's a problem. That's why every group have at least one member who can they rely as a main vocal and fill others with "potential stan attractors." So I think Jihyo and Nayeon are doing their job well and it's too early to judge the other members as they need time and experience to show their potentials.
  10. So which guy(s) will be the victim(s) of Mnet's ever traditional evil editing? Who will receive unlimited love and support to the top despite his skills to create noise marketing? What kind of emotional battles and dramas wait these guys? Why does Mnet take ideas from worst from American reality shows and their own weird ideas from Japan? I will support the guys, but not the broadcasting system taking advantage of and using them like tools to get attention.
  11. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GL_ylh5Qmt4 Basically this vid goes from: Introduction of the member. Members showcasing Cheer Up dance moves. The MC asks about games they play, Nayeon answers mafia, that horse game, and that speak without your teeth game. So they play speak without your teeth game with saying food names, Tzuyu gives orange as an answer and JY debates whether it's correct as orange is a fruit. Then they do OX game on the question: I have confidence in my aegyos. Only Jihyo and Tzuyu answers O (yes). So both of them do aegyo battle and members vote on who has best aegyos, O for Jihyo and X for Tzuyu. Ends up with a timed bomb game (you know which if you watched Jackie Chan RM episode) where each members have to introduce themselves for 30 secs and the next member has to follow up with the word previous member ended up with. The punishment was to show Ooh-Ahh dance moves. Conclusion with the members eating tteokboki as ending. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ But leaving that aside, let me talk about something I noticed about this forum. What's the obsession with these National Girl Group debates which have been going on like thousand years? Why do you care that much about who becomes our National Girl Group? Will the members of that group pay you for getting your guesses right? Does it change your life other than little bragging rights? Do you think all the people from other fanbase will easily admit your group's successes even in the chances of becoming one? You can't even predict a future which will happen tomorrow, so what's the point for having pages of same debates for months and fighting each other about something you don't know will ever happen? It's not like what you say there will actually help your group really become one. For what I know, it takes a bunch of luck and series of unpredictable events. JYP mentioned Wonder Girls members disliked "Tell me" when they found out that will be their title song, but that became their most successful song they became known to both young and old. And then people were calling them the "National Sisters" before they moved to the U.S while SNSD took their spot during the hiatus with their own unpredictable hit song. Like such, you can't make an prediction and argue judging on current situation. Who knew Gfriend would be that successful from a small agency or T-ara lose everything at Korea entirely from being top 3 there with their bullying scandal within a week? And unlike Wonder Girls vs SNSD period nearly a decade ago, current market is filled up with thousands and thousands of groups coming up each year unlike back then. It's highly doubtful anyone will reach SNSD's scale of success with such competition now. So what if Twice or other group does become one? Does it make all Koreans love them? No, many people including me don't follow SNSD nor knew much about them despite their popularity. And if some group becomes very very big, there are chances the members will lose their beginning thoughts to fight over money and all the "glory seekers" who aren't even real fans will join in and mess your conversations. I don't care whether Twice really becomes so called "National Group" or not, and a part of my hearts tell me I prefer they wouldn't for above reasons. I am perfectly fine with them just keeping their current level throughout their career: people recognize them, their songs get top of the charts, varieties hunger to invite them as guests, and most of them all, members are close to each other with their humility to fans intact.
  12. Lol, I was watching this Shashasha intro/collection video, did a pause randomly and this showed up. The light does make it look like our Yoda is indeed wielding lightsaber there. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PqQp0nqU58w
  13. Yes, I do. Literally, it means "no answer" but in this case this would mean "hopeless." I don't know where you picked that up, but please refrain yourself from using that word, I despise it because it's a representationof how self-defeated and "complain about everything" mentality at Korea. However, I know exactly what you mean. I passionately HATE this "work your hardest until you faint from exhaustion and lack of sleep with your 'fighting spirit'" nonsense. I know they prefer people work 2 jobs with 50% condition each day than 1 job with 100% condition, and then come up with rubbish "You don't have proper work ethics nor popular as other groups if you don't have full schedule as them." I know this show is stupid and dislike broadcasting station for forcing this schedule, but that's an other issue. And when girls get much exposal to public they need (which they did in front of millions of viewers), that's what matters for now.
  14. Top 10 Comments from Naver article currently (My translation) 1. This is a program which will only encourage fanfights and get cancelled soon. 2. Kim Heungkook (one of the panels they brought): It's not she eats well, but she wants to enjoy eating for herself. ;;;? I thought the goal of the program was to let the girls eat whatever they want and as much as they want, ****ers. 3. A show with no concept and goals. 4. Mina did bad. But I don't know what this show is about. 5. This is too much, are they taking sides? It's fair if they bring same menus. 6. I watched it well. I will watch this show for today only and stop. I don't know what is the goal of this program. Background panels just watch them eating, and is it even possible to have eating competition? They are hopeless. 7. Just bring 8 people at a table and let them eat while talking will get the show better ratings. Invisible panels, 3rd rate MCs, and cold and bloated food. 8. I like the goals, but cancel this show. Who is the PD? How foolish he/she must be to plan this show? 9. Dahyun did the right thing to eat neatly and exit with pretty face. This is a garbage show not worth trying to win. Mina also did well not to push herself, and Namjoo didn't look good even after she won. Tzuyu should also quit. She should just pretend to eat, make pretty faces few times, and come home. 10. That chat room is also hopeless hating on Jiho for trying so hard while attacking Mina for not eating too well. What should they do then?
  15. Hi, there. Care if I join in? I have been following Twice since when JYP was announcing the member profiles for Sixteen. At first, I was anticipating the show to know about what was the big deal about JYP trainees (all these ex-JYP trainees becoming stars media plays at Korea), and indeed I found the answer after watching it. I like how many of the members had their own unique color and natural charms, which carried on to the group after the members were finalized and still proving to be their strongest point (in other words, no member seems like carbon copy of one other with made up personalities, all of the nine members have their unique personality to attract and keep their fans). So I have been following their shows and videos after they debuted and decided to take part here after watching RM today. About their appearance at RM, it wasn't good as I expected because of those editing problems which is a big issue of the show lately, but still quite an achievement for a group which debuted less than a year ago. They are indeed a group with a very promising future, and I am proud of having followed them since their very beginning. One coincidental thing is when I was driving today, the car right next to me was playing a song at the radio which I recognized instantly. I heard about international fans of Kpop many times, but it was the first time I experienced one in real life, and Cheer Up was the song that indeed cheered me up there. And yes, I am Korean and I have many translating and subbing experiences to help you guys. Feel free to ask me if there are any need for translations or questions about Korea. I will try to show up often and let's have fun time sharing our experiences and knowledge about Twice together.
  16. I doubt it will be New York since they already did Gang of New York special many years ago and performed with Psy there when Gangnam Style was the trend. If Jack Black did invite them, it will be LA, which a good candidate because it's the city with biggest Korean community at the U.S. Some of other places which have prosperous Korean communities are here at Atlanta (where I live and I will go watch them if they come), Chicago or Virginia. And if they plan to involve some Korean baseball players at MLB, Minnesota and Pittsburgh are candidates too.
