  4. I'm guessing he said 努力が実るとは限らない ( 動力 is  a word that is used for machines ( like the power that gives the machines its driving force. Usually dealing with motors/engines) (努力(どりょく) is for / effort/hard work)   as for the translation, I'm not an experienced translator but to me the most accurate/ straight translation is "effort/hard work  does not necessarily/(or always) bear fruit". but imo  "hard work isn't always rewarded" is fine too!   I don't feel that "hard work is not limited to bearing fruit" is a good translation but i don't know how to explain why except for that it seems weird >< sorry haha. You're definitely understanding what he said correctly though!   For ~~~~とは限らない you would normally translate it to xxxx is not necessarily yyy  or xx is not always  yyy
  5. I used the 新完全マスター series and thanks to their books i was able to pass jlpt n2 and most of the other people I've met that  used these books thought these books was pretty helpful as well. Use the same series for n1 but test results don't come out until Feb;;. I def felt the books were helpful though   As for websites.. I didn't really have a main one, getting into intermediate-advanced level since I mainly just relied on using google but i would sometimes go to a site called jgram to help me with translation since when you use these books, you learn everything in Japanese so sometimes it can be hard to put some concepts/ grammar into English.   Also games are a great way to help you build up vocabulary and is one of the ways that can help immerse you into the language. Im a big fan of jrpgs like Dragon Quest/ The legend of heroes series and Final Fantasy so i would play games like these in Japanese. jrpgs tend to be text heavy so you can really learn a lot from playing them! Any game will do find though probably.   I use to play this Japanese online game called Phantasy Star Online 2 though and that game definitely helped me practice actually talking to other Japanese people ( both through text chat and voice chat). Don't play it much anymore due to work but a lot of my actual practice was in that game since i only talked to my exchange partners like 2-3 times a week, I recommend checking it out whenever you have free time.   Another suggestion that i have is, try watching American movies, dramas, or korean dramas with Japanese subtitiles! Fun way to get your practice in and it lets you see how the Japanese would translate  stuff into their language.
  6. Like Tea said immersion is the best way to learn. Its also good to let yourself experience many different kinds of media/ enviorments  since word choice/ patterns etc can really differentiate depending on what you're looking at.and you will  learn a lot more with more variety.   As for memorization.. like for readings and vocab i relied on a program called ANKI ( made my own decks instead of using premade ones) but for me, what helped me memorized readings/ vocab the most was just reading a lot.(ANKI sure did help with the more uncommon readings though   As for textbooks... there are so many nowadays. Ive only used like 2 series so i can't really give a fair judgment on whats the best textbook, but for intermediate guided learning i used  "An Integrated Approach to Intermediate Japanese ."  books pretty boring but it definitley helped progress my Japanese.    After this book i mainly relied on jlpt prep books( levels 2 and 1) for the more advanced grammar points. I mainly used them to study for the jlpt but after using them, I  really feel that these books  makes learning  advanced grammar much easier since the books gave very clear and easy to understand explanations in Japanese. You can find these free online, so i recommend giving them a try if you still want guided textbook learning after you finish an intermediate book.   As for finding someone to talk to, language exchange sites are great, but if you happen to like games, playing an online game in Japanese every now and then may be helpful to you.
  7. haha i know the feeling >_<by the time i finished the reading/grammar/vocab/kanji i only had like 5 minutes until the time limit ran out so barley had enough time to throughly check my answers.. I was very suprised how easy the kanji and vocab questions were for n1! I want to say the kanji questions felt easier compared to the n2 test last year but my memory of the test is a bit blurry haha.We had to identify the readings of 唱える 興奮 随時 励む 変遷, usage of 辞任 and like 2 token katakana vocab questions(LOVE THESE)! im just really suprised 興奮 was there cuz it was one of the earlier vocab i learned and I remember seeing that in a lower intermediate Japanese textbook haha. Reading comp and listening this year felt pretty difficult though... really hope i passed.   If you plan on taking jlpt again in the future i really reccommend just attempting n2 even if you didn't pass n3 ! I never attempted the n3 but for n2 i only prepped for the test for around 2-3 months and managed to pass with a decent score. I mainly relied on the 新完全マスター jlpt prep books to prepare for the test though   Hope we both pass >_<
  8. Anyone take the jlpt on the 6th? I took n1 this year! i found the 読解 part pretty hard but the rest of the test seemed pretty ok! If anyone else took one of the 5 levels how did you think it went? So many people taking the test this year where my test site was. Felt like double compared to last december
  9. Thanks for the add~ Really loving the song you put on your profile too. Profile looking fabulous~
