  1. Since nobody as brought up his name, I recommend Kim Soo Hyun for Rin. He fit Rin's character descriptions perfectly. From reading the chapters spoilers, Rin is just as important as Won. Basically, we are going to have two male leads.

Anyways, since this drama is heavily invested by a big Chinese's media  company, plus, with SM and KeyEast partnership, it  would be a great opportunity.  hmm... probably won't happen, but here to wishful thinking and hoping... :rlytearpls:

  2. Lee Won Geun confirmed for Rin?????

I see angry Yoona fan tweets mentioned his name

Nope, can't find a single article mentioning him. But I hope they'll announce him soon, the anticipation is suffocating.

Why don't some Yoona's fans like him?  Wow, he is going to be Rin?

He was okay in the Good Wife. So, I am not sure why the animosity towards him. If there is one...

  3. :ahmagah: I love him!

    Really?

'Wang Lin/Ryn - A man of royal descent named Ryn, described as elegant, refined, and upright in character. Won's childhood friend and bodyguard.'

I think it suits him tbh. The way Lin is described is extremely different to San & Won who are said to be strikingly beautiful.

I think he would suit with Yoona  :chu: Each to their own I guess.

Yes, that the popular prediction going on in DC drama.

Well, it is subjective, but I don't think of him as elegant or refined. The upright character descriptions definitely fits him.

I prefer Yoon Shi Yoon.  He matches all  the descriptive elements of Rin.

  4. hmm... Another popular prediction for Rin  by some knetizens is Ryu Jun Yeol. Quite a few think that its Ryu Jun Yeol.

I have not watch any of his drama, so I can't really judge his acting skills, but his visual and aura  does not match with Yoona and Im Siwan.  If this is true, it will be a very weird casting overall.

  5.

WARNING! While this post is spoiler free, I wrote it thinking everyone here has at least read the brief synopsis that was released with the initial press release. If you haven’t, please go to dramabeans and read it first.

So after having read the books and stewing over them for a while, here are my thoughts. The book isn’t your traditional romance story, there’s much more to it than just that. While San and Rin are both fictional characters, many of the supporting cast and events that push the story forward are based on historical facts. Won, in particular, is very accurately portrayed so you can expect there will be a fair share of political talk in it as well. I expect the drama to pull back on some of the political aspects of the novel and pursue the romance and friendship aspect between our three main protagonist more, but I still expect it to have a bit more politics than say... "Moon Embracing the Sun" and it's honestly pretty interesting. With Goryeo (Korea) being ruled over by Mongolia (Yuan) at the time, this is a pretty touchy period of history for many Koreans so adhering to historical facts will be imperative to how well this drama is received. I remember "Empress Ki" receiving a huge backlash in Korea for how much it distorted history. Luckily for us, one of the books major selling points is it's historical accuracy so I don't expect that to become an issue here.

Our three main protagonist Won, San, and Rin are all very well fleshed out characters. But I think Siwan and Yoona fans in particular will be very happy with the range of emotions their characters will be able to play. It’s honestly a little crazy. On the other hand, Rin’s character is much more of a stoic character so I think even bringing on a more novice actor would be an okay choice there too. I should also mention that Rin is NOT a “third wheel†in this story. He is just as important to the story as Won and San are.

All in all, it was a very impressive book to read. From a fanboy standpoint, there were moments I was getting giddy just imagining Yoona acting some of the scenes out. From a literary standpoint, the sheer scope of the writing impressed me. The characters travel all over the Yuan Empire and while I'm not sure how much of it will be translated into the drama, one of the pro's of being a pre-produced drama is that we actually have the time to go overseas and film some of these scenes (I know for a fact that “Empress Kiâ€, another MBC drama, filmed a few scenes in China as well so I know that it’s possible).

A few users have been asking me to explain the relationship between Won, Rin and San a bit more so I decided to also post what I shared with them here in spoiler tags. And while I do foreshadow a few events, as a whole, I think it’s pretty spoiler free.

    1. Won and Rin

So Won definitely wears the pants in this relationship. He's constantly nagging on Rin for being so stiff around him and pressures him to speak informally when it's just the two of them, often to no avail. Rin is described almost as an extension of Won himself, always standing by his side and willing to do anything the prince asks of him. Rin and Won share the same dream of making Goryeo a better place to live, for the people, and both help each other towards that goal.

    2. Won and San

Won instantly falls for San, not romantically I mind you, but because a) her looks and b) her selfless nature. San, unlike Rin, is more than willing to talk down to Won, and Won loves her even more for that. At one point in the novel, he mentions that San was the only person he's ever met that didn't treat him as royalty.

    3. Rin and San

Initially, Rin is very wary of San because she refuses to tell him her true identity. They constantly butt heads with each other and if it weren’t for Won they’d never get along. Nevertheless, Rin is very protective of San and is often the one to save her when she bites off more than she can chew.

And last but not least, if you want to be added to the group PM, where I'll be sharing a small summary of each chapter, add your name to the list below.

  6. I think we have our writing staff for the drama now.

    ZXeSSf7.png

Our writers are Park Chan Kyung who was an assistant writer on "Healer" and No Sun Jae who was an assistant writer on "Mirror of the Witch" which I think is a pretty good mix. Park has experience writing romances while No has experience writing historical dramas.

hmm... Are they really the main writer?

Hopefully not.   They don't sound confident or give the aura of confidence in their writing abilities with this interview:

At the end of the day, good writing and directing is what will attract and keep viewers.

  7. Well, its my opinion so of course its subjective. Thats what the word means.

The writer has attempted to make CYJ straddle the grey area and hint at a possible twist that reveals she was not the ultimate villain, but in recent episodes has flattened her into a standard villain.

As we can agree on,  interpretation of drama/characters is very subjective. I never felt like the writer straddle CYJ in the grey area. Since the start of drama, Yoo Jin was the ultimate villain. The main point of the writer showing CYJ 's 'humanity' in certain scenes was to show that nobody is born pure evil. Situations and circumstances changes them, but once they start committing evil acts (i.e., child abuse) , they cease to become the victim and are ultimately pure evil/villain.

Also, I never understood why some people are against others calling CYJ evil. For me, Yoo Jin and Se-Joon committed child abuse by depriving Anna of a healthy and wonderful childhood/teenage-hood.  Anyone that abuse children is a disgusting and evil human being. You can never  gain redemption or straddle in the grey area for that sin.

  8. Does anyone else have this feeling that the writer shipped off Anna because he/she didn't know what to do with her character progression at all.

The writer definitely did a major disservice to Anna's character development, and to certain extent, Jeha's character growth.

This drama would have been amazing with a talented screenwriter, such as, Kim Eun-Hee (Signal, Sign, etc...). It had all the right factors of becoming a great drama, but due to the writer lack of skills, the overall drama as become repetitive,  boring, and unimaginative.

The only thing saving it is the wonderful acting performances from all the main cast and supporting cast members.

On a positive side, Yoona, Ji Chang Wook, and Song Yoona are all gaining positive media/public attentions for their acting. I see more incoming opportunities (CFs, dramas, movies etc..)  for each of them.

  9. Yoojin is the only strong character on this show. What a waste by the writer to make her into a standard villain in the end.

Also Anna and Jeha have no chemistry.

From the start, Yoo Jin was a standard villain and a typical antagonist character.

The writer did not mislead the audience about Yoo Jin's personality or character. Only delusional Yoo Jin's fans thought that she was going to be 'different'  and become the 'protagonist/heroine.'

Also, all these chemistry talk is annoying and very subjective. As a Ji Chang Wook's fans, I can't wait for this drama to end.  I really hope that his next drama does not have these types of intense shipping war.  :._.:

  10. I really thought that you guys were overreacting about the dramabeans commentators, but you guys were right about some of the commentators.

I am not a Yoona’s fans, but it is really disgusting how she is blamed for the rating falling, but never given credits for the rating increasing. There is a big amount of jealousy, prejudices, and dislike towards Yoona. As a JCW’s fans, I really dislike the SYA and JCW shippers. I am not shipping JCW with anyone in this drama, but I really find the SYA and JCW shippers annoying and very dislikablle.  They need to stop giving credits to every success and good things about the drama to  the 'chemistry between JCW/SYA.'  The drama is successful due to the main cast/supporting cast members, director/pd, staffs, and the writer.

Overall, I really wish all sides will stop with the shipping war. It getting very annoying:donthinkso:

  11. hmm... I heard that today episode was bad/boring.   I am a Ji Chang Wook's fan and I was hoping for a great drama before his army enlisting.

I  really hope that the writer don't fuck it up.  Please create a good plot-line and characterization. The writer as great interesting ideas, but he does not know how to weave them together to create a compelling story/drama.
