This is how usually sm promotes tho, drops an album and gives ya two weeks of music shows and then call it a day. The only diff with this cb is them hyping up the us/international sales a few weeks before the cb. I honestly thought its gonna be different but alas same scenario is happening

Not really. There are usually variety shows, youtube videos, radio shows for all SM idols. All, except for EXO. The last time they promoted properly was Miracles in December, a winter album. We all know the fucked up thing that happened during Overdose, but they tried again for Call Me Baby then more fucked up things happened. After that what? Almost zero promotions. And this time it's perfectly zero.
What's frustrating is how good the album and the title track is but nothing's being done about it.
I'm doing my part. Bought the album, bought it online, streaming yt and spotify. But it feels so helpless. I probably wouldn't care so much if the title song is shit or just so-so and the album is trash but it isn't. It's great to see the numbers showing the fans are still buying and supporting EXO because SM sure isn't.

Since this is the EXO sales thread, I wonder what's happening this comeback. They made effort to sell it to international fans by making it available through Amazon. They made it available in offline stores. They even opened pre-order a month before. All this points to good things. They want to boost EXO's sales.
The album drops and it's one of their best albums, if not the best album. The title song is a banger. But then nothing after. No radio, no tv, not even a youtube video. What's up with that. I'm worried there's a problem they're half-assing this comeback. No, they're not half-assing it. They're doing nothing at all. At least the fans are still supporting the boys and buying the album, streaming, watching the MV but there's only so much fans can do.

It's not weird. There has been no hype to the public about the album. They're not even promoting it so of course it will be heard less. Constant exposure will help the song but SM is not doing anything.

This is inconsequential in my opinion. YES I expected to win GDA. Yes I was disappointed. But we would have lost whether they made this rule before or after so timing isn't really a thing for me.
Is the rule of itself fair? Nope. It's not. We were blindsided.
To be clear: I think the rule is bogus. It disregards the fact that repacks and albums are one. Which is why companies even release repacks. The timing of the rule however I don't care about
No, the rule should have been announced prior to the start of the year, so companies can incorporate the new rule to their planning. Why do you think EXO has been releasing albums every year instead of alternating with a mini album? So they will always qualify for GDA. That's what happened before. After Overdose outsold all albums in 2014, they changed the rule for 2015 so all companies were made aware before they release anything for that year. Did you think I meant GDA announcing the change like a MONTH before the awards show? I mean before the start of the award qualification period.
The timing is everything. It shows that GDA will change a rule last minute to ensure that who they want to win will win.

The rule isn't no "mini album"(any albun can be called that if the company wants it) it's specific; no album with less than 6 songs.
I don't think companies are going to stop releasing repacks because award shows aren't going to consider it together. It's to boost sales after all. But if sales drop for repack cuz of this rule, their hand maybe forced who knows. But we still have things like Gaon Quarters so I don't think repacks are going anywhere.
As for the actual issue. It is, what it is. I don't think it's because the industry is out to sabotage exo or anything like that. Maybe in these people's eyes an album which sold so many copies without a repack is more worthy of the prize and shouldn't lose because of a technicality like repacks. It's not fair for the fans at all ofc. But in GDA's eyes this is what is right in terms of "fairness".
We just have to go harder this year.
That's different from what I remember. I remember it being a no mini-album rule. Is there an article back from 2014 you can link me to? I know I can research it myself, but the data here is pretty bad. Maybe when I get home later.
I'm not saying the industry is out to sabotage EXO. I'm just wondering if there has been any talks of the rule change before, any indication at all. Because it's normal to change the rules, it really is, but never like this. Rules are rules, you can't just change them to fit who you want to win. If you think it's more deserving, then change the rules after, then hope they do well next year too, so they can win it. I just think it's not fair, not professional, and totally strips GDA's credibility by doing so.
I'm also surprised that people are just taking this lying down. I know, "we have to go harder" this year, and it's already done, who cares, but this is a big thing in business. Changing rules on the fly for the purpose of ensuring a certain win has many implications in all industries. I'm looking at it from a bigger perspective, not just this.
EXO's sales will shift accordingly. And repacks are to boost sales, yes, but the boost in sales is for the awards season because sales from albums brings almost zero revenue. It's the prestige of the sales and the awards they win that brings the revenue, through name brand and selling power.

Hi I have a question.
I remember GDA changed their rules back in 2014 after Overdose won. Since then, no more mini albums can win a daesang because before Overdose, no mini album sold that much and it has never been a problem, so they changed the rules accordingly.
1. they changed the rules AFTER the win, so everyone will know the rules and can prepare accordingly for the next year
2. they changed the rules because of EXO changing the market
Recently, they changed the rules again, but BEFORE the win, leaving the industry unprepared for the change. This is strange. I find it strange that they didn't do it the same as before, coupled with that group looking like they expect that they have a chance at winning, it brings me to the conclusion that this rule has been set for some time now, but we just haven't been informed.
Question: has there been no talk when this rule was set?
The optimistic side of me wants to believe that GDA changed the rules, informed the companies but it just wasn't spread to fans.
But the more likely truth is that GDA informed/talked with ONE company. Because why would SM release a repack with 3 songs if they knew?
Also, isn't the one that group won the daesang for a mini album? Did GDA change this rule as well again?

I’ve only seen them twice in my life, both being exoluxion concerts held in my country (SG) and I’ve always been exceedingly lucky because I somehow always managed to squeeze through the pits of hell and end up in the first/second row.
I got into kaisoo before I legitimately got into exo, you could say they were the reason why I got sucked into this bottomless pit of hell and pain that is this fandom so THE ANTICIPATION WAS UNREAL. I’m not a screamer in concerts, I just stand there and stare to be quite honest, so the members I get to make eye contact with always do a double take cos imagine in throngs of raging screaming faces there is silent one there unmoving and quiet (i tell you it actually really gets their attention, you really stand out from the crowd tbh, but then again I have really bright hair so).
But yes back to kaisoo. I’m telling you they are unreal. Idk if you want to know about just them tgt or seperate so I’m just gonna ramble because I am trying to ignore my real life responsibilities.
Individually they are very striking. I kid you not when I say Jongin is a fucking Adonis in flesh and blood. Jongin comes real close to Kyungsoo in my list but he knocks him out of the ballpark irl. He is so goddamn good looking, you can’t help but stare at him and try and catch your breath tbh. And it doesn’t help that he is very aware of the fact that he does things to you. His legs also goes on for miles. But his solo baby don’t cry stage is the one that will get you, I’m not a crier but his stage belongs to him. It feels like he’s telling a really sad story and it is so beautiful, I was shocked when I felt tears rollin like a buffalo down my cheeks ok. Tumblr pictures and gifs do no justice to the emotion he emanates in that concert stadium.
Kyungsoo is just super duper adorable and he is very handsome irl. For such a small person he has quite the presence. He is extremely professional, it’s very personal and impersonal all at the same time with Kyungsoo. He draws the line between idol and fan as well as the fact that it’s a job and it’s very very clear (at least to me and I appreciate that). He waves and bows a lot at his fans and sometimes seems a bit scared tbh hahahhaha its adorable. His live runs makes my ears bleed.
But together, daMN. I can’t even describe them tbh. Everything you read online about the atmosphere is really real, don’t even take it with a pinch of salt, just take it. I would consider myself not in the least bit delusional lmao I’m not the kind that overexaggerates every moment they stand within a 5 ft radius of each other but they really do gravitate towards one another in a way that is very very fascinating to watch tbh.
I spent the entire concert just watching them tbfh hoping to catch kaisoo moments, and I’m not lying when I say the entire concert is the moment. It always seems like Jongin trying to get Kyungsoo’s attention at first, he always looks around as though looking for someone, then glances in the direction Kyungsoo is in, then in the next one minute is lurking in the background behind Kyungsoo. And it is very obvious he tries to be subtle about it but it’s really not lol. This sounds delusional but really it’s very hard to put words to that unless you see it for yourself. I said at first in front because Kyungsoo actually reciprocates but he is the subtle one, he doesn’t try to get Jongin’s attention at all tbh, it’s more through actual actions like caring for him etc. He doesn’t stare at Jongin except when they are talking privately and guys.When they are standing near one another, you can literally FEEL THE TENSION. I can’t find words to describe it, it’s just different. And it’s just with them. It’s not like kyungmyeon or sekai or chansoo or baekkai or any other ship. It feels very intimate(??) like you feel abit embarrassed and intrusive when you look at them just talking to each other, let alone whispering. Like you feel like you’re looking at something you shouldn’t be looking at? It’s almost like you want to look away to give them their space and to look away is the last thing I want to do as a kaisoo shipper but you just do. If I had to put a finger on what makes it so intimate is the way they look at and move around each other. The way Kyungsoo looks at Jongin is beyond my comprehension tbqh. It’s so gentle. Like the way you look at a child because they are so endearing and precious, that’s how Kyungsoo looks at Jongin. He softens his edges for Jongin and you see it through his actions and the way he treats and looks at him compared to the others. That day of the concert was the famed “kaisoo birthday hugâ€, and if I’m not wrong that was abit after that period where the kaisoo tag was “deadâ€, that’s why that moment was all the rage.
The hug was, imo, a little awkward, compared to say this hug;
but they were in front of a HUGE crowd that was watching them, if I were them I would be equally as awkward and embarrassed, it felt more of an obligation than a real “aww hpbd broâ€. And they are known to be very private individuals and imo don’t exactly love to be in the spotlight esp when it comes to personal relationships/lives etc, making them do such an intimate thing on stage when everyone is obviously watching and focussing on just them and the act of hugging is gonna be weird and uncomfortable.
But it doesn’t mean that it wasn’t genuine. The tension during the hug was so real it was almost scary, even for me tbh. I think that was what made it look uncomfortable. Imagine if it were any other ship, like say sekai or baeksoo or kyungmyeon or chankai, they would have bear hugged the life out of each other.
Its the fact that kaisoo was too real and they knew very well that everyone had their eyes on just them, I swear to god the tension was palpitating and rolling off in waves, I felt uncomfortable for them tbh. But other than that, kaisoo is a force to be reckoned with irl. I can only say this much because it’s so unexplainable, you have to see and feel it for yourself to really really see what tumblr and fanaccounts don’t do justice to.
