This is right around when I started losing interest in them. Game, Golden Coast, and Splash are some good albums with some standout songs that just bring about waves of nostalgia. Especially their cover of Okuru Kotoba, remonds me of when I first started getting into J-music and only had their YouTube videos to listen to and watch. Called this not too long ago. Glad he is releasing something, but I hope for more upbeat or uptempo songs. Preferably something along the Blind. People, especially recently in America, have some undying need to blame video games as the main contributor or reason for violence and the string of mass shootings we have had. It has gotten to the point where some are talking about a violent video game registry rather than some type of gun reform and registry. There are some instances where people may want to mimic things that they see in games or tv, shuch as that kid who died in a sandbox mimicking Naruto. This, however, doesn't show a problem in the video game indisutry, but rather with the larger society. I played GTA San Andreas like twice and I never wanted to get a gun and run over a prostitute in real life. Video games are the new scapegoat for gun violence.

It's quite pathetic. I rather have follow an artist with crappy sales and good music than the high or inflated sales with crappy music. When people list their disdain for certain groups and their music, the response is always along the lines of being jealous of their sales, but ignore or try to demean what their sales are attached to. When people begin to swear by sales as being some sort of holy sign it's funny because there are so many artist that may not have these monstrous sales, but have had a lasting impact on the music market that present groups will never have. In other news Utada's dad just said the In the Flesh tour is ready and coming out soon for like the 50th time @robosexual loling at that guy whose always posting pictures of someone in underwear to say that they aren't ugly

Of the album? The Best of Do As Infinity On the whole Taku arama thing it was pretty funny reading the comments on arama. You could just see the anger of the idol fans when their idols were getting ripped into by an actual person in the J-music industry. It was pretty annoying though when people kept calling him pressed because of his sales. That's like one of the weakest arguments ever.

The video was such bad quality but oh well 3 min mark Other noteworthy moments Yep, it'll probably leak tomorrow and if not the 1st at the latest. ----- Do As Infinity will be releasing a best album on January 1st with 2 new songs and a DVD from their previous tour. Hopefully there are some new rendition of the songs on there since some of the songs are like from 2000.

 Watching him perform it's not all that surprising that he is. Some people just like to live in their fantasy I guess. Think if a star is gay it takes a way from them and they just like to stay in denial I saw this performance and was like Yep. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xNFMeMkYRLc&list=PLC4B725631ABDECD4 The first 30 seconds and especially 3:00 is just like come on

Can't believe it's been 14 years since their debut. Happy Anniversary DAI https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PgGo8EHVNac Ken has some weird outfits, but this is such a good concert.

Damn, that's a hardcore wota right there. I guess they really love their nipples. "So man-whores like Yamashita and Akanishi really have dark ones, huh" Didn't know there was a relationship between nipple color and being a whore lol I guess it's nice that Johnny is trying to push for the olympics to keep himself busy since he'll probably be dead by then.

Agreed. When I first saw people talking about it elsewhere the time gap is the first thing that came to mind. The J-music scene we know now will not be the same in 7 years. It's gone from idols and rock bands in the 80's to mid or so 90's then soloist and r&b were strong for a while with some pop acts here and there and now idols are having their time. Even some of the artist most of us listen to now such as Utada and Namie have had changes in their styles in shorter than 7 years. I'm interested as to what the scene will be like and who will be preforming when the time does come, but when they announced Tokyo for 2020 I was like dang I'll be in my late 20's I more interested in what I'll be doing than who performing haha

@Madilinn I was thinking B'z and SAS would be the top choices as they've been around the longest and are seen as legends. You could probably add Mr. Children to that mix. LDH being present is good maybe with a mix of different artist. There's more possibilities with the closing ceremonies than the opening for that. I could see Namie doing something like that, it just seems like her. It would be a great opportunity to get those 4 together though, but as you said we'll have to see. /Enjoying a '98-'02 music binge.

The Olympics are so far away, but still those groups are a no. I know arashi is big but there's no telling where they will be in 7 years (probably follow smaps projectory since they'll be like their age by then). Ayu and Namie will both be over 40, but probably will still look and be the same as they hardly age (maybe one more than the other) and utada and kuu will both be 37. Sorry it's just weird to think of all the ages since they'll all have been in the industry for 20-28 years. Plus with 7 years there is the possibility that some new hot thing can come around and be the it thing in 2020. But still I would rather see LDH or one of the 4 perform in the olympics since I know all the other acts I listen to don't stand a chance. I can't imagine any of the 'queens' wanting to do it though.

I feel like a best album might be coming up soon since they have 4 albums, but then again they only have 7 new singles (two which were quadruple a sides). So that is 14 song, but they did include non-single tracks on Do the Best. Hopefully if they do release a best album it's an acoustic best because those 4 songs on Do the Best were gold. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=85lOfs2UTFI https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JGdzGgpAk-M

That was pretty good, especially for a song that has been covered to death. Hoping for some new DAI material with their anniversary in 10 days. It's been almost 2 years since their last single and a year since their last album. With them taking things slowly and utada being on hiatus, music has been a little disappointing this year. On the bright side I do have the new RAD single to look forward to and was forced to listen to a lot of new artist. Only 3 months left, hopefully I can be wowed by then.

Not in Japan. Ever hear of Shigeo Takuda the male pornstar who didn't join the industry until he was 60 and is like 78/79 now Kinda creepy

How ironic, I know people who never played Kingdom Hearts and heard of Utada but only like Simple and Clean. And of course you have those fans who claim to love her but only listen to that and sanctuary. I've heard the whole "their voices are too high pitched/ squeaky" before so I'm never really surprised with anything when it comes to critiquing j-music. Idols are prevalent in k-pop so they look for that in j-pop which is definitely not the way to go. Two different kinds of idols. It must be weird that they can't use the name Sugababes eventhough they are the original members. I definitely think that the referencing between the two keeps things fresh and new. Being influenced by a certain body of work or artist can prove wonders for some artist and their finished product. I also find Japanese acts more enjoyable because there is greater emotion put into their work and performances. K-pop definitely comes across as too structured and trained that it leads to almost every group or act being almost the same in my eyes. That's not to say that I don't enjoy a vocalist who is trained and can reach a range of notes perfectly, but there is something endearing when I see Ken Hirai, Tomiko Van, or Utada go off key while poring their heart and soul into the song they are singing. I guess that gives them a better sense of realness to me instead of groups that move to concept to concept and try to keep in tune with what's "it." ----- Sadly my summer jam this year has been a song from 2001. Which ironically was a Japanese remake of a Janet Jackson song.

Interesting read. I definitely see some trade-offs here and there. Much of Namie's Feel does bring up a western feel when listening to it, but does seem to retain a sort of Japanese feel to it when listening. Likewise I am sure that there are certain artist in the west, like people were discussing lady gaga in here not too long ago, that take ideas from Japan and try to make them their own. With this, I think there's a blurred line on what is Japanese and what is Western and what is one copying the other. Songs like this definitely seem like they were influenced by western music Whereas a song like this is probably harder to come by in the west I do agree that Japanese songs seem richer and deeper than there western counterparts. Like the songs posted by DocumentaLy. There are definitely some Japanese songs that have their faults and seem western in nature. I just find it funny that people dismiss Japanese music because it sounds too much like what they listen to. I would think that would be a point in its favor. I also find it amusing when people who listen to k-pop dismiss Japanese music because it's not different enough, but k-pop is far more similar to western music.

Have any of you seen this article? Does j-pop really suck? http://www.japantoday.com/category/opinions/view/does-j-pop-really-suck I think most of it is nonsense, but I do agree with the part where asian groups don't really succeed unless they can be exoticized. I don't see how j-pop is copying western music or how its different on a more basic level. When was Ayu even trying to get into the western scene? And how is she and Utada basic?

I definitely see idols being more image based than musically based. It's my personal opinion. The fact that you can't date and have a strict set of rules you have to abide by shows that your image is a key component to your marketing more so than your music. LIke Utada got married in 2002 and there probably was some buzz about it, but her career didn't take a hit like idols who are seen dating. Idol music isn't really for me, but that's not to say it isn't acceptable for someone else. Those Ayu pictures were pretty funny though cause I've seen them before and they've never really struck me as sexual and a key part of her image. Someone could probably argue that about the Party Queen images, but not so much the cover of I am that they posted. I mean if it were someone like Kumi than yeah, but then again no one really denies being sexy/sexual isn't part of her image. The 48's were created to cater to the otakau community as stated by their creator but eh whatever floats their boats.

That kitten person seems seriously upset with you lol I just don't get why some fans get so upset when people dislike idols. Like it's never that serious. And thanks Mandilinn I'll be sure to check out those threads from time to time. Watching the PV for Think 'bout it really mislead me to what Aku no Kyoten was about, but hey I got a good song and a good movie out of it.

These are perfect thank you! I think I like The Second and J Soul Brothers the most. Flower too Taiyou to himawari is too good.

You guys listen to a lot of LDH groups/artist right? I started listening to them yesterday, but could you recommend some of your favorite songs? Especially more upbeat ones. I found some good songs so far, but nothing that really amazed me yet. Good luck with school Krunchii! I hate that my school has the longest summer break ever.

http://www.musicman-net.com/artist/28599.html Some pictures from this year's a-nation. I'm not one for fashion, but it looks like this was a competition on who could dress the worse.

For some reason I always thought this was utada's house or at least one of them. I'm assuming she has a small place in both Japan and America. http://youtu.be/jnDHLa66mMY

So sad @ 0:29 You can tell she's fighting tears

ama can mean bitch so maybe its like a backwards translation. Instead of 'Bitch-chan' its 'Chan bitch' idk I was actually thinking the same thing. She looks like she has been keeping care of herself up until now, but still looks miserable/heartbroken in those pictures.
