  1. [Review] The Rose draw on indie & alternative sounds to create effective appeal on “Babyâ€

    DbAOP4UV4AARRJD.jpg

Idol band The Rose seemed to come out of nowhere last summer, but quickly developed a moderate amount of internet buzz even though Korea has mostly ignored them. To be honest, I didn’t quite understand what all the fuss was about. Past tracks

    and
were pleasant bursts of modern rock, but nothing that stood out to me. However, with new single “Baby†I’m fully on board the hype train.

When it comes to idol rock music, we tend to either get acoustic balladry or Maroon 5-esque pop polish. “Baby†takes a different approach, drawing from alternative and indie to forge a sound unique to The Rose. Like DAY6, this is a group of multiple vocalists, with members Woosung and Dojoon taking lead. Their tones are affected in the way that much of alternative rock tends to be, but it works here in part because we haven’t heard this approach in awhile. The two captivate with vibrato-heavy performances that compliment the percussion-heavy instrumental and lend the track a sense of the ethereal.

“Baby†is a production and vocal showcase, and its actual melody feels slight by comparison. The gorgeous surge of guitar and avalanche of constant drum patterns paints a rousing instrumental that only grows more so as electronics enter the fray during the song’s final moments. I’m less enthralled by Baby’s constant need to pull back into more subdued passages when it could have added an extra melodic punch, but I suppose this sense of dynamics is part of the track’s powerful, raw appeal.

Lol I laughed so hard when i read that line saying whats the fuss about them [emoji1] Even Woosung's first second in Sorry is enough to say that they are unique and very good but yeah lets say that they are same with other Korean bands [emoji23]

  2. I can finally listen to the album. Just wow. Baby snatched me so hard that i was crying suddenly, i don't know why lol. They really did a wonderful job. Baby and Sorry are my favorites but all songs are good. It is hard to hear real instruments and bare voices these days in Korea music industry, The Rose is lifesaver for me rlytearpls.png  I can't even talk about vocals, I am blown away by both of them, congrats boys, I hope Korean public can notice you soon because you deserve everything rlytearpls.png

Is it bad if I ship The Rose with South Club lol, i can see them being good friends and creating music together, okay i will stop now lmao

  3. I see yg's lazy ass at it again, they should be on tv but why i am never surprised anymore sigh.. Finally I am listening the full album.

Everyday: Definitely live version is better than studio one, they should've recorded it differently imo without digital effects because they don't need to use them when their voice is so good and unique.

Air: Reminds me old Winner, more suited for title i think, also its quite upbeat so public would love it too.

Hello: Mino's part at intro is so cute lol. They sound like teenagers in this song, their voices are very light.

Turn of the light: I screamed at the intro lol, instrumental is so good i wanna cry. Mino shows again how good he is as producer and rapper. Can't wait for his album.

La la: Jinwoo's vocals sounds so good in it, this version is better than their old version but still its not my favorite kind of song.

For: It screams quality from first second. Jinwoo's vocals are heavenly in this. Hoon and Mino's emotional raps fits so well. I can hear their voices so clearly. Back vocals and Yoon's high notes are top notch. A song that never can be a title in yg's book sadly.

We were: I am so glad that they recorded drums live (it sounds like live but I don't know for sure). Definitely one of my favorite Winner songs easily. Instrumental is so good, Yoon is born for rock and ballad vocals imo, I never get tired of his voice especially in this genres. Again a song that never can be a title :/

Luxury: Again overused autotune, other than that it has nice flow and vocal melody.

Movie star: Another classic Winner sound for me, I liked Hoon's rap very much in this. Harmonies are on point, instrumental is so good. Acoustic part is so cute, and when they sing altogether i got goosebumps. This is also my another nominee for title.

Special night: I was so ready to scold Hoon when i heard autotune at intro part, I was like again boy? But he made my mouth shut up except first 10 seconds haha. I loved his composition style overall, I hope he can has a chance to release a self produced album in the future. He could polish guitar or synth sound more but i am competent with this too, he will be better as he composed. I am tired of saying this but this could be title too.

Raining: Hoon's vocals sounds amazing to me always. I liked this version better than Japanese one, probably because of I can understand some parts of song. Yoon is killing again. Another classic Winner sound, well done our newest composer Hoon. I specially liked electric guitar and vocal harmonies in this. Yoon killed at outro.

Have a good day: Very meaningful song, Jinwoo's voice is so soft in here. Mino sings very emotional also, his rap fits well in that kind of song too. I liked this song very much too.

Overall its a very good album. I know they will never release an album that all songs are in my favorite genres but I like how they try another genres. My only complaint is i think they should be more careful at this recording and mastering stage when they record a trap/hiphop song. I never find a problem in Mino's solos in that aspect, they can use similar techniques when they record a hiphop/trap song for group too imo. I hope public can realise how good their b-side songs are too, because usually they don't get recognition they deserve and it makes me so upset that such good songs goes under the ground without notice by public. It's so good to see they are doing well on the charts despite of non promo again, they really should be proud of themselves rlytearpls.png

  4. I am still on a business trip so I just listened&watched Everyday. I don't know why Yg insisted on Meyers guy and spend so much money on this mv but it wasn't good for me. However overused autotune made me more upset, I can understand rapper line parts but they shouldn't use it at least with Yoon's parts imo. I will listen other tracks soon, I have high hopes on them. I am so happy with them doing well on charts tho, they deserve everything chuplz.png  I just hoped that they choose another song for title. I will try to catch up with all updates soon rlytearpls.png

  5. 12 songs yess, I cant get over blue rose thing lmao they better use it later because I spend my hours thinking about theories [emoji23] I wonder if they will try completely new genre to them like jazz, musical etc. Somehow i can imagine them with trap because of rapper line, i wonder about composition tho, it will probably sound different from usual trap songs that we heard before.
