Nation's Granddaughter Yves article translated by nim in spoiler

"Me? The nation's granddaughter? Of course I'd be thankful for such a title. I'm very grateful for all the nice things you've said."

LOONA's Yves told us her thoughts about being on "Teach me if you Can." Though she was worried about her first main role in a variety show, her gentle and genial appearance - as if she were the real granddaughter of her partner - was well-received by viewers.

On the first pilot episode of the variety show "Teach me if you Can" which aired on the 19th, LOONA's Yves met her partner, a grandmother named Lee Nam-soon. Yves studied Korean with Lee Nam-soon, and their chemistry while partaking in everyday activities together quietly seeped into viewers' rooms.

Yves first grabbed attention when she entered the classroom with her tall height and striking appearance. She gave a preview of her role when she high-fived grandmother partner in an effort to motivate her as soon as they became partners. With a bright smile and amicable personality, she easily started friendly conversations with her partner, further showing her sociability.

Yves impressed viewers in the segment "Learning about your partner" when explaining how to spell certain words. Wanting to say "I dislike bugs" (bugs: 벌레), Yves explained to match the level of her partner - "don't you hate it when bugs get inside the house?"

T/N: to show that the spelling of 벌레 is with "ã…”" with the left extension facing outwards, rather than "ã…."

Playing the part of a perfect partner, Yves carefully took care of Lee Namsoon who expressed a lack of confidence in her ability to write in Korean.

Yves' performance continued. After class and changing into more comfortable clothes at Lee Namsoon's house, she began to help her daily work in earnest. They shared deep personal stories while washing mugworts. Yves said in firm support, "Grandma, I'm not a good actor, but I'm still doing that right now. You should have more confidence in yourself." This was genuine advice and support towards the grandmother, who wasn't confident in class earlier and kept looking down at her desk.

With her special social skills Yves got closer to her grandmother partner. Yves helped out in her partner's daily work such as picking Korean rhododendrons, all the while becoming closer than just granddaughter and grandmother. Through all this, she showed zero signs of tiredness. In fact, she became more eager to do things. Through Yves' impression, viewers could grasp the show's sincerity towards the grandmothers.

After finishing the first broadcast, Yves told OSEN via her agency, "While watching the first episode, my heart was warmed as I remembered all the things we did while recording," and "I was worried since this was my first permanent role in a variety show. After finishing the first recording, I asked the writers and directors a bunch of questions and got a lot of advice. My spirits were raised a lot when they told me that I was doing great already, so I worked to be more natural on camera. I'm glad that viewers seem to be enjoying that."

She was shy when asked about the nickname of "Nation's granddaughter." Yves said, "I'd really appreciate it if you think of me that way. After the show ended, I saw my name trending real-time on portal sites, and wondered "did I do anything wrong?" But I'm very grateful for the positive responses from viewers."

Yves, who rose to become "Nation's granddaughter" in just the first episode, was actually a chatty granddaughter. Yves said, "when I was young, I spent a lot of time living with my grandmother on my mother's side, so spending time with grandmothers seemed natural and comfortable. When I'm with grandmothers I'm the type of granddaughter that starts talking a lot."

Finally, Yves said "the first broadcast was all about meeting, so it's just a taste. The next episodes show more closeness so I think it'll be more entertaining too. I think viewers would make good memories watching this show with their grandparents and sympathizing together. I hope you tune in to <Teach me if you Can> and also don't forget about the grandmothers and 'Moonhae school' (T/N: The name of the literacy school for elderly women). I'll be working even harder as well, so I hope you keep an eye out for, and support, Yves from LOONA."
