  1. What other kpop groups have tried to use onomatopoeia and why would they? What part of the song are you referring to that uses onomatopoeia?

Yeah, the Piri is a Korean double reed instrument, used in both the folk and classical (court) music of Korea. It's made of bamboo and there are 4 types.

    Source

Here's a video of one type being played (it doesn't sound like a flute)

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HkVlg26DjAU

It sounds like it could be what we hear in the beginning of Piri

I can try to explain the concept in English, but I don't really know what GoldenRule meant about it being used in Piri. I would think you'd have to know the Korean word that would match the sound (unless there's an English word that matches a sound that I missed)

    Onomatopoeia

1 : the naming of a thing or action by a vocal imitation of the sound associated with it (such as buzz, hiss)
2 : the use of words whose sound suggests the sense

    Definition and pronunciation

Basically it's when a word's pronunciation imitates a sound of something. So when you think of a cow, the sound it makes is "Moo" (which is also how you say it), hence it would be an example of onomatopoeia.

Another example in a sentence would be "The gushing stream flows in the forest". Gushing describes the sound of the stream and is another example of onomatopoeia.

The general idea of onomatopoeia is for people to hear the sound of something by using words that describe what something sounds like.

I'll link some websites with examples (one of which I took the above examples from):

    https://examples.yourdictionary.com/5-examples-of-onomatopoeia.html

    https://literarydevices.net/onomatopoeia/

    https://literarydevices.net/a-huge-list-of-onomatopoeia-examples/

    Hope that provides some clarification

Sorry I'm late in responding to this - I thought the post-chorus "pi-li-li-li-li-li-liy" was meant to sound like they were imitating the sound the pipe makes, hence my referring to it as an example of onomatopoeia. But, I suppose I'm wrong.

I promise I wouldn't just randomly use that word if I didn't know what it meant ilikeitplz.png

  2. My favourite part of PIRI is the part they do "DOWN DOWN DOWN FOR ME" and idk why, but it seems like they executed the moves so perfectly here but less so during music show live performances O_o or maybe it's just me.

On an additional, but unrelated, note,

My gawd, JiU's body is so flexible during dances it's a marvel to witness it every single time during such dance practices.

Honestly that move they do during "down down down for me" is why I decided to stan 0u0plz.png idk why but I loved that move when I saw it in the MV

  3. Just wanted to say Dreamcatcher seriously just saved kpop. Like GAWD Piri is so good, I really wasn't expecting it.

They weren't on my radar at all but this song changed that.

Kpop groups have been trying to make onomatopoeia a thing for months and Dreamcatcher actually succeeded in it.

  4. Damn, this is a HUGE disappointment. I do appreciate that there was an announcement about it - there are groups for whom we wait years for a comeback and never hear anything, so we just slowly come to terms with the fact that they're never coming back. At least Melody Day gave us some closure, and quickly at that.

    Merry f*cking Christmas everybody 0u0plz.png

  5.  I have a question. Wich other groups Candy has stanned?

JJCC, for one. She was successful in getting Prince Mak removed from the group in an *extremely* similar fashion to Alex - he, too, was foreign-born, did not speak Korean, and became a target of Candy's cyberbullying. She seems to be some kind of xenophobe. Regardless, a sobering reminder that Candy is a dangerous psychopath who is NOT to be trifled with.

There have been a few other groups as well, but I'm forgetting which - I think 9Muses was one of them and we see how well they're doing lately.

  6. Hey everyone, I fell majorly back in love with Melody Day a few days ago. I forgot how much I loved Kiss on the Lips. The video is great and the choreo is everything. I actually hadn't realized they released a new song - Restless is pretty good, not my cup of tea but I like how every comeback sounds a little different, and I do like the MV. They didn't promote it on music shows it looks like, so maybe something bigger is coming in a little while? I'm not sure how much momentum is behind them since they were on that "build a girl group" show, but hopefully they come back again and soon.

  7. I feel bad for them but again....DRM is just screwing them over again.

I’m not going to pretend to not think that this comeback needs to be a hit or at least sell for them to continue. DRM is a business...a bad one...but is a business and it needs profit which it hasn’t gotten in 5-6 years from a Rania comeback

RaNia's days were numbered since Candy decided to get her filthy hands on them. She does it to every single group she targets. She's a dangerous psychopath who whines, negs, and gaslights her way into management's good graces, pressures them to make bad choices for seemingly no reason but personal grudge, and alienates the real fans. That's how viruses work - they cling to their host, slowly kill them for their own sustenance, and then move onto the next one.

I feel bad that it's happening to RaNia, very bad, but there's simply no cure for Candy - and a weak company like DR that thinks it has to please its loudest (not most loyal, but loudest) "fans" to be successful really doesn't stand a chance. The blind led the blind right off a cliff.

We have a fairly good discography to remember RaNia by. Much better, and longer, than most kpop groups who never got huge have.

  8. Makestar: 67% by 69 makers w/ 11 days left

    giphy.gif

I don't know if they'll reach their goal. I wish they'd give us some kind of preview of the single, I feel like that would generate hype better than listing what's in their handbags.

PS omfg the new layout is so bright white

  9. Tbh I don't think I've listened non stop to a song this much in a looong time, I'm officially obsessed with Sober. I just keep switching between the english and korean version so much that when I sing along the lyrics sometimes overlap 0u0plz.png

LOL me too! I can't stop listening. It's a pretty much perfect comeback in terms of the song and video. I hope SM is taking note of the extremely positive, international reaction. HYO should be the next dance pop kween

Also one time I played the English and Korean versions at the same exact time, so my ears could switch back and forth between the languages laugh.png

  10. She debuted at #139 on the global digital artist ranking on Kworb. She's still #1 in 7 countries and is currently #2 on the iTunes US electronic chart!

She deserves this 100%. Question: whats' the best way to support her from the US? Stream on Spotify? Watch the MV on YouTube? I already bought the song on iTunes, but listening to it in my iTunes library isn't gonna help 0u0plz.png

  11. Finally found the 4Ten thread again. Pain in the ass OH unfollowing me from all my threads idontthinksobetchplz.png

Anyway yeah looks like they're just over 50% there, with a month to go. I'm somewhat nervous. tbh I haven't given yet cuz... I love them but idk what the new member is like or what the concept of the new song is. I'd be interested in getting a signed album, so the $30-ish level is the one I'd do, but... again it's kind of a lot of money to give if I don't end up liking the song 0u0plz.png
