same, it's quite insulting for uprs contestants tbh. and actually if you think about it the premise of uprs itself is so sexist. it's like mnet thought "okay, i guess no female rappers are good enough to be on our Legitimate hip hop show with Real Rappers ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ let's create another show just for them and make it all about drama because women are catty and hate each other~!". i think at the beginning of s1 one of rappers (cheetah?) even said something like "it's going to be hard/tiring because it's all girls" i mean i'm not a part of khiphop scene so what do i know? but from what i see in media and fans' comments there seems to be this bias that female rappers are inherently worse than male rappers which is really sad. even when a female rapper gets praise it's usually something like "oh, she's good for a female rapper". obviously there's yoon mirae who's recognized and respected but i feel like she's treated more like an exception that proves the rule and on uprs it's magnified by the fact that all judges so far have been male. the whole thing just comes across as patronizing tbh.

i'm sorry for a long post but i just finished ep.5 and i need to vent somewhere.. thoughts on actual diss battles: yezi/sua - w o w obviously i expected yezi to win but damn.. sua got Obliterated, i'm really glad yezi prepared seriously and didn't take it easy just because sua doesn't have as much experience kittib/heize - ugh i didn't know who to root for in this battle, both are my faves :( kittib really surprised me with using crucial star beat though, that was ruthless :o tbh i think her rapping style is more suited for dissing than heize's.. heize is too chill for this. i'm really glad that kittib showed a good performance and won but at the same time hated seeing heize lose.. kasper/jiyoon - tbh they did a lot better than i expected maybe because i didn't expect much truedy/gilme - oh my god.. where do i even start? gilme was so awesome! finally someone called out truedy on the shit she's doing. and tbh everything about truedy's actions was so childish and immature: throwing a bottle in the beginning, all her insults based on the fact that gilme is older, making fun of gilme's health problems, comparing herself to jessi and gilme to lil cham etc. also why the hell was she basically allowed to have a 3rd turn just because she got emotional/angry? like.. please calm down, she was an emotional wreck for this whole battle and it was so apparent.. also WHY THE HELL WAS GILME ELIMINATED?? yeah she messed up her lyrics but imo it didn't ruin her performance, she still maintained a good attitude till the end, meanwhile sua was pretty much ripped to pieces by yezi and you could see her confidence shatter, her 2nd verse was mostly muttering, honestly i don't think she should've been saved before gilme (and i say that even though i really like sua) hyorin/yubin - ngl i'm really biased here but i think they were pretty much on the same level? idk, i need to have a full translation of the lyrics to judge.. tbh i'm not really a fan of hyorin's rapping style, i don't know why but i can't really get into it even when she's doing well? also i hope that in her lyrics yubin meant "bright" as in shining bright on stage or sth and not "white" as in alluding to skintone bc that would be really disappointing other stuff: - stage setup reminded me of dueling club in harry potter lol - "LET'S GET READY TO RUMBLE!!1!" san e... pls - is truedy going for that weird high fashion graphic eyeliner trend? bc it's definitely not working for her - kittib, gilme and hyorin had the cutest reactions~ it was nice to see them enjoying the battles, living meme kasper also didn't disappoint - i probably said it many times too many probably but i physically cannot handle how hot yubin is - mnet is so fake though, i hate that they manipulate everything, even the reactions >:( you can clearly see yezi being excited when yubin makes a word play on fiestar here but in the episode when they cut to her reaction she's sitting still and has a pokerface on - almost forgot about this but: WHY DO THEY NEED TO BRING DUDES FROM SMTM TO UPRS?? why are you doing this to me mnet? if i wanted to see a bunch of guys being hip hop tryhards i'd just watch smtm smh
