‘Gag Concert’, viewership ratings that tell the reality of crisis theory

[MBN Star Reporter Park Joo Yeon] How did the ruling momentum of this (show) averaging at around 30% viewership ratings in the public comedy world disappear. These days, the momentum of KBS2 ‘Gag Concert’ can’t be like how it was in the past. The viewership, a huge reversal, only barely makes it over 10%, and now it has finally crashed and fallen into a single digit.
On the 30th, according to audience measurement company Nielsen Korea, the broadcast of KBS2 ‘Gag Concert’ on the 29th recorded 9.9% in viewership ratings of the whole of Korea. The previous week, on the 15th, recorded 10.1%, a 0.2% drop. On that day, even though there were various guests who are leaders in popularity like Park Bo Young, Solbi, Dal Shabet’s Soobin, etc., it was a waste as there was no significant change in viewership ratings and hot topics. During that time, the ‘Gag Concert’ that was secretly getting stronger during critical situations, it was the moment when they were rising above the waters.
‘Gag Concert’ is the longest-running public comedy show in the country, and has been protecting its spot since 1999. There are people who stick to ending their Sundays with ‘Gag Concert’, which is enough to prove that it has been receiving lots of love from its viewers. Lots of catchphrases co-exist, from harsh satire to brewing various forms of comedy with their bodies and words every time, and various hot topics at the lips of the viewers, which means increased popularity.
The ‘Gag Concert’ that constantly recorded around 20% in viewership ratings until early 2013 has been having sharp drops in viewership since 2014. Towards the middle part of the 10% ratings, it finally plunged into single-digit ratings. Comparing the viewership rating information from the past three years till recently, it’s the first single-digit viewership rating. Even when they’ve been continually suffering this crisis at this time, considering ‘Gag Concert’ overcoming this is really confronting a crisis in calculation
The latest ‘Gag Concert’ skits, ‘Veteran’, ‘The Perfect Couple’, ‘301 302’, ‘Catchphrase Makers’ appeared in hopes to change up the atmosphere, but trends are rapidly changing and trend cycles are shortened, blaming the fact that after 2-3 weeks, repeated patterns become withered. In addition, one point is fresh comedy material and saving enjoyable catchphrases that are worth to follow, and another point is that they can’t continually produce star comedians who are youthful bright sparks. This is a situation where momentum is something of the past.
The reason as to why ‘Gag Concert’ has got consistent rising crises is that the longest-running public comedy show, which has been quietly securing its spot for a long time, has still got lots of viewers who have their expectations. That’s why, along with responsibility, ‘Gag Concert’ should feel pride. With new skits and stages every week, and a fiercely comprised generation shift, we expect a response from the ‘Gag Concert’ that has been marching in step with the trends sensitively.
I'm sad but still I love the show and I will continue to support it no matter what.
I hope Gag Concert will step up the games.
Still don't be sad. We have some good news.
