It's not like it's illegal, it just won't be recognized by the government (meaning you don't get benefits like straight couples do). People can have unofficial marriages all they want. It's more common just to cohabitate without going through the motions of a marriage that the government won't recognize though. Bisexuals are only attracted to male and female. Pansexuals are okay with everything in between (intersex, transgender, etc). At the end of the day it's not really a huge difference, and we probably wouldn't really suffer that much from the loss of the pan label, but it's a label that doesn't seem to be going away any time soon regardless, so it is what it is

A more accurate distinction would be that pansexuals don't generally care about primary and secondary sex characteristics, while bisexuals and monosexuals do.
