  1. mmm i normally agree with you but not in this one yes i wanted her solo to be in november but if not i'm not gonna be mad since it means more preparation and promotion and better timing and time for her to sell album and win awards seo from september had ben in different pictorials and mcing it's a good promotion and it show sm is finally paying attention and promoting her even if her solo is not happening soon

from her istagram post she seemed sooo happy and excited she said she excited 2 times which means somthing really ggod is happening we predicted her hair chnage was for her solo but now that maybe there's no solo it only means it's for a drama or movie casting she's soo happy with and maybe that's why her solo is delayed

plus soo many seomtes were complaining that sm is not promoting her unlike yuri who is promoted and her solo is next year and have time to prepare now that maybe seo is doing the sm shouldn't it be a good thing and be happt about it??

seo is soo happy this days so i believe she's no sacrificed for the other sm male artists she's preparing something for sure and she's happy with it she cut her hair suddenely and evne surprised yoona and her fellow members and said it's a secret so she's up to something i just want to hear the news soon to know what it's about

Now is a good time because she has momentum from Moon Lovers and the clash of so many big names is actually an exciting atmosphere to be a part of in which she can benefit a lot from the eyes of so many fandoms. It's better than going head to head with one other soloist in a clearly exploitative tactic to pit their two fans together. November competition is a lot healthier and more beneficial. Also it just my personal taste, but I will sad if she doesn't debut in fall because the season suits her so well and I think it can bring the best out of her concept and music. She has an "Autumn Rose" image.

I do agree with you though if she is moving it for more proper promotion and better buildup, I don't mind but ONLY as long as that time isn't spent stalling but working on a project or number of projects that can build interest in her. Maybe a drama or a fixed variety show. If she's not doing her solo now then I don't want to see her wasting that time with TTS again. I do like TTS but the timing is really pointless and unnecessary for everyone. Taeny already have solos, TY is getting another one soon, TTS comebacks haven't really been that great lately anyway and there's still a fresh scandal than can hurt the team if poked at too quickly. There is also so much resentment in the fandom from people who would rather see a group comeback or another unit. I would rather see Seohyun use time to establish her acting or otherwise solo image.

  2. TBH didn't Seo say end of this year and r early next year, we all know the solo is definitely going to come so let's just get ready for it in anyway we can before they announce the actual date

Seohyun never said any time. An article released by Sports Dongga, which is usually correct for time frames, said November. Other "insiders" have also been saying November. But I wouldn't be surprised if SM decided she should be put on the back burner for their male acts like NCT/Exo unit/Kyuhyun/Kangta/Shinee.

Really at my limit right now for how much one can endure. Her web drama fell off the face of the earth. The chinese movie and Moon Lovers drama give her joke screen time even though she worked so hard for them. It's already the end of October and there's no word of her solo, no promotion, she's not out attending events either. No fashion week. All we know these days is she hands out with friends. The musical MC host is definitely not SM's hand, she used her own connections to that industry. And frankly, most people are not going to be paying attention to an award show for musicals.

I fully expect some bullish*t to go on with her solo. Like SM pitting her against J*ssica or S*zy and trying to make a bloodbath out of it, or making it a TTS comeback instead. Or giving her only two weeks to promote with no variety show, little magazines, etc. All that's happening these days is Pantene with Yul (who herself had numerous acting roles, variety shows, and solo endorsements this year along with Seohyun's "pre-solo promotion" with Pantene/Secret). I don't want to be pessimistic but it's hard how much has to be endured for Seohyun to get just one thing to herself.

I don't mind if they delay her solo but I do mind if we're just left in the dark like how we have been for months now with her web drama and other activities. There needs to be clear news on what her situation is and what activities she might do in the meantime. If they don't want to debut her solo right now then she should at least have another drama or film or new web drama to work on like everyone else. Knowing SM though, they'll just make her do TTS.

  3. Also, we know better than to think Seohyun will release a "boring song" just because it's fall. For one, her taste has never been OST-type ballads at all. Secondly, there's not a rule that she has to release a certain type of music just because it's the norm.

Fall is actually a great time for her to release something sultry, something warm, something acoustic, something jazzy, something throwback (90s, 60s, 70s, trot) or something musical-like. Personally I can't think of a better season for her color. Spring would be the most likely time for "boring" songs. Summer is all dance sexy pop that I don't think suits her. Winter is sad OST songs. But again, like I said, it's not a rule. Twice released Ooh-Ah this time last year lol.

Seohyun will challenge her image but it doesn't have to be in a way that's a total departure from her style or strengths. I don't want or expect her to be Hyuna. And if she DOES release "boring music" then oh well. It's the music she wanted, and the public will likely respond better to it anyway. I don't think ballads have to be written off as boring. If she released strong melodic, R&B ballads like Adele or John Legend? That would be amazing. Even something sweet and orchestral like Exo's Miracles in December or coffee-house like IU, I could appreciate.

Look at the type of music she's been sharing on her IG. Carly, Mariah Carey, Maroon 5. I really don't think we need to worry about her releasing an OST snoozer.

  4. I agree with everything SeoMania said. November is gonna be packed with comebacks, it's just not a strategic time to debut. She'll get the smallest amount of attention if she's caught in the middle of big, already established names - unless she releases a surprise smash hit, but that's unpredictable so basing decisions on that is foolish.

In addition, the build up is just not enough. Moon Lovers ofc helped her get traction and did some good for the youngest part of her fandom, but I really do think she needs to get involved in something with more mass appeal ie a popular variety show. Why settle for the bare minimum in terms of promotion?

I just hope Seohyun is strong enough to demand nothing less than the best from SM, because at this point honestly they made it clear that they don't care. They just want to get it over with all these solos of people that are not their favourites: "there, we did give you a solo, now resign so we can milk the group name brand until the ends of time and to hell with your personal ambitions!!" It's not even a smart move from a business point of view but there's what you have.

If she does debut this year, of course I will be thrilled and I will do everything I can to support her. As a fan, I will probably enjoy it fully and focus on what she has to show after all these years. But not gonna lie, I'm also gonna look at the results and be super disappointed and bitter if she doesn't do well. This is kpop, marketing does 70% of the job tbh.

Why is everyone so afraid of competition and fandom battle? Personally I think it's GREAT she's coming back at such an exciting time with so many big artists. You guys realize how much exposure that is right? Most of the time Korea does not pay attention to music shows at all. They get less than .6% ratings. Only idols fans care. I really don't want her to come back at time when it's just her and a bunch of nugus. With a heated arena she actually has so much better potential to get her music across to different people and fandoms because so many people will be watching. I absolutely want her to sell and chart and win things but frankly it's not more important to me than her getting a quality promotion and having people actually SEE her. It may seem that she's being treated unfairly here but remember that Seohyun isn't a dumb person. She knows exactly how to make things work in her favor. Because she has no previous name for herself as a solo singer, the public doesn't know her in that capacity yet. Tossing her out during an empty season just so she can grab a few trophies won't give her the same impact as promoting with the most popular and legendary artists out there right now. And we know Seohyun herself would rather promote with peers and exciting people rather than nobodies that'll just make her feel old and out of place.

Secondly, don't underestimate Sone. Even if Tiff had Jess as competition, most Sone didn't really care as much as MaoMaos did. Also it was expected that Tiff would release music that wasn't public friendly but more international, which is why they didn't sweat charts and stuff. Because she was different from the beginning and did well in her own way. But Seo going up against Twice, Big Bang, Busker Busker, Blackpink, Park Hyo Shin, etc? With possibly a more public friendly sound? That's a huge incentive for them to flex fandom power because Seohyun is their representative during a big showdown. I'm not saying they'll for sure support her strongly but I don't think it's as bad as some are imagining. Korean Sone at least are very proud of Seohyun and she is a well-liked member they want to see do well. They'll try to do as much in their power to support her.

Thirdly, like someone said, Seohyun lives off the element of surprise. We have no idea. Her song alone may be good enough that it doesn't even NEED excess promotion. Red Velvet had a terrible cycle this time with almost no promotion but their song is still in the top 5 on Melon. And a month is a lot of time for buildup if it's smart buildup. Esquire is smart buildup. Moon Lovers is smart buildup (all thanks to Seohyun and her efforts though, SM didn't really do much there), Fashion Week will be smart buildup, MC-ing big concert events is smart buildup, more Pantene events are smart buildup. Seohyun herself doesn't NEED a lot to get a lot of attention. Even just being active on SNS and going to events here and there can leave a big impact. Her most random articles get huge responses. The only thing I feel sad about right now is she doesn't have a solo station or variety show. But she could very well get a station as a lead-in (like Starlight for TY) or a post-promotion add on (like Heartbreak Hotel). And a variety show can happen even halfway into promotion. Everything doesn't necessarily have to be dumped right before hand. You want promo to have a steady momentum.

Seori's Pantene station flopped in Korea but it's one of the most viewed kpop releases in China. Where fandom and purchasing power is. It's not something I would've picked but it IS serving some purpose. Pantene and Moon Lovers are HUGE cross-Asia exposure that shouldn't be taken for granted. Moon Lovers has over two billion views in China (the only running drama in the top 5 ever), and it hasn't even been aired yet in huge markets like Thailand and Japan (which it will be soon). Pantene commercials are playing all over China and SEA.

Absolutely I think SM didn't do enough but at the same time I trust Seohyun. She is a meticulous person and she thinks outside the box. It's okay if she doesn't chart or sell or win like crazy. She needs to set apart her own color more than anything and make a statement. I want to hear her songs and writing and see HER hand in her own passion.

  5. Guys arent you a bit frustated?? I mean theres news of almost all comebacks in nov. But we have nows no promo etc..

I was wondering how many songs written by her sm is going to let her release.. i want to know about seo musician

I am frustrated with the no promo but let's see what happens in the coming days. Usually SM does more promo during and even after a comeback then right before. For now she's getting great promo through Moon Lovers even though it's all on accident, and SM can't take any credit for it. But I am thankful anyway.

She may be getting the cover of Esquire which is a really big deal. For one, it is a men's magazine which almost never uses women on the cover unless they're really special. But even if she doesn't get the cover, her being in Esquire alone is a big deal. It's definitely not the typical magazine for a female celebrity. It sends a really strong message. Their photoshoots are more "adult" and interviews are long and interesting, not typical boring questions. Especially for someone like Seohyun with such a long image of being young and innocent, it's a great promotion tactic. I am sure too that Esquire isn't the only magazine she's shot. Remember that she doesn't always reveal these things and surprises us sometimes. "November" magazines come out in October (usually in the middle of the month), so the more important ones for her will be "December" magazines that will come out in mid-November. We've had Grazia, Star1, and Esquire from the last three months. It's not a lot tbh but still the first two already left an impression with netizens and I'm sure Esquire will leave the biggest one next. As we know, Seohyun doesn't need a lot of exposure to get a lot of attention. Just key promo.

Also we're unlikely to get "news" about the exact date of her debut. SM doesn't really do that. They released an article in the summer stating sometime in the fall, and it's likely that they will stick to that and just drop her teasers when it's time. Teasers are usually one week before the actual song is out. So assuming Seohyun is in November like everyone is predicting, we will get her teasers sometime in the first three weeks of that month. Right now, she will probably be busy filming and shooting her jacket, music video, magazines for that month, practicing, etc.

Seoul Fashion Week starts soon too, and I am almost positive Seohyun will be there. She was the guest of honor before, and she is actually friends with a few designers, so there is a good chance she will go to some shows. Maybe even a lot. Fashion Week is always great promotion, especially for Seohyun whose fashion is appreciated. Celebs are usually fashion terrorists during that week but she always looks amazing.

If she goes overseas in the coming weeks that will be a huge sign. Maybe a music video or a big photoshoot. But somehow I doubt it even though Tae Ny both got overseas shoots.

Aside from that, I really really really hope she announces either a new movie or drama (to film after her solo), or variety show to coincide with her solo. I think she can still do well without it (Moon Lovers gave her much more exposure than expected) but it's the least SM can do. I will know one thing though, that if her solo is a success, it will be all because of HER. Not the company that doesn't even try.

  6. Before solo she must choose the hairstyle that will make face more photogenic, to look better in the photo and video. Bangs looks better than IGAB era, but it's not something that makes her more beautiful (except her selcas) bc emphasizes the cheekbones and chubby cheeks, and face look extreemely square or angular. Honestly I am worried that she chose the most risky option. Seohyun's best hairstyles, that looks great from any angle

    Middle part hairstyles

I don't think it's the bangs making her look wider, she just happens to be a bit chubbier in the face right now. Which is usually how it goes when she doesn't have heavy public schedules. She probably eats more comfortably and isn't going crazy exercising like with comebacks.

Her face usually slims down a lot for comebacks and other activities. For me the bangs are way more flattering than IGAB era, and they are thin enough to be swept away easily, which she will probably do when she's bored of them quickly like last time. Also I think they look prettier with short hair than long. The whispy bangs look sweet with short hair but a bit awkward with long, glamorous hair. In some photos from DMC I find them beautiful and in some unflattering. They look better in motion than pictures.

Anyway I am not too worried about her solo because like I said, she'll look her best I'm sure. I think these bangs are just a spontaneous decision because she was bored or she has something she's filming with them (drama, cf, maybe pre-mv?). Somehow I don't feel this hairstyle will be the one she keeps for her solo.

  7. yeah i agree with you in all what you  think

first of all i really like her hair and bangs it's a good change from time to time plus she was super cute and pretty today everyone said so in twitter she looks so young and fresh like she ages backword hhh

and for her skin yeah everytime her face is like that it's when she's super stressed and buzy the lat she was like that was in the press conference for GWTW musical she was practicing for the musical and for dome concert and had tts comeback but the fact that her skin was good ven when she had mamma mia musical and filming for ml in the same time make me believe thta she's super stressed nad worried and buzy i think more than preparing for her solo and worried about the competition she's working in other things and preparing for other projects (hope what you said that people think hse picked a korean drama because of her angs is true i really want to see her in a drama soon with a good and fair screen time for her)

about tts i was also suspicious especialy with tiff comeback now and ttss rumored comeback in october before but someone in twiitter shared a list of the comback in october and november and there's no tts the list seemed legit soo lets wait and see (teyeon last year had her solo just after 2 snsd comeback and after that she had tts comeback and the alsum and the song was success and she sold super well even if fans had already buyed snsd cds so i think seo can do it too maybe not the ame success but she won't fail for sure) so just wait and support seo and wish her good luck and strenght

I think because she was so happy during Mamma Mia and Moon Lovers she looked so radiant. Not that other projects are unhappy but you can tell when her heart is really lifted and she is excited about what she's doing, she is completely different. GWTW was the first big challenge to her acting and image, and she was very busy straight from TTS the year before so the stress showed. I am sure she is worried a lot about her solo, after all it is putting yourself out there in the most vulnerable way. Nobody to fall back on but yourself. And she is a perfectionist.

Yes there is no basis for TTS right now except speculation. Whereas Seohyun's solo has already been confirmed or heavily suggested at by news and insiders. People say there is no news about her solo but I think they are too used to things getting delayed and moved around. Her article said November and I'm sure she will be on time for then so no more news necessary until her teasers finally happen.

There is a lot to do to prepare for an album. Record, choreography practice, concept creation, instrument practice if she's doing that, fittings, building stages, shoot the music video, shoot the photo book, shoot for magazines, organize schedules and events, interviews, it is endless. That's why I hope there are no unnecessary distractions for her until after the promotion is over. Apparently the male lead of her web drama dropped out but the author of the story said he/she doesn't care as long as Seohyun is still in. Seriously though there is no point now. Korean actors and idols are pretty much banned and no Chinese actors want to work with them because it causes image issues. Even top Korean stars have had their projects cancelled, what is a web drama? She is already gaining Chinese fans through Moon Lovers which is 100x more popular than the web drama can be. I'm 50/50 that it will be seriously delayed or cancelled. Plus the author is just the author of the novel, not someone involved in the actual production so.....it sounds like just an over-attached fan tbh. If she must do this web drama then hopefully it is at a time where she isn't so busy.

Some say she might be in discussion for a movie or kdrama after her solo. There might be an announcement in the next month and she will probably start filming right after her solo if true. Let's wait and see. I hope it's true. She needs more momentum in her home country than China. China was only a target so her solo could sell better.

Also I don't think TY is a good comparison because she had a lot of support and expectation for her solo for years so it didn't really matter when it was released, fans and the public were ready to buy it. Whereas Seohyun is less popular in the fandom and although she is decently popular with the public, she has no real image as a solo singer that they are familiar with (like OSTs, tv shows, etc). TF is one of the most popular and supported members in the fandom but even her solo failed to live up to TY. Like it or not, we can't put all our hopes on fandom to make her a success, especially if most are TY/Tae-Ny biased and would rather spend money on a TY solo or TTS album that come around right before/after. She needs more general public support, which can only be achieved through proper marketing and a QUALITY RELEASE that speaks for itself.

  8. I like the bangs because she looks sweet and lovely (especially with the short hair), but her hair looks like it was styled messily/hastily for this stage. These type of thin bangs don't really suit glamorous idol stages but they are popular now among drama actresses and I saw some wonder if she picked up a new role in a Korean project. Her hair right now does not match the Canvas the Emperor character at all. Luckily the bangs aren't blunt or short so they are really easy to sweep aside if she wants to for forehead-showing hairstyles. Personally I think they are a good change and allow for more versatile concepts.

Close-up her skin condition looks a bit tired for the first time in a long time which makes me wonder what is going on behind the scenes. It would be better to refrain from sharing the more unflattering pictures because they fall quickly in the hands of antis. It only gets like that when she is crazy busy and stressed, and even through Moon Lovers and Mamma Mia this year she looked fresh. I guess we will find out soon what she's hiding (I am sure she hiding something....many things). Hope she isn't pushing herself beyond sleep T__T

She is probably working her hardest right now. The lineup for comebacks and debuts in the next couple month is really impressive and there is a lot of competition. I'm sure she wants to put her 100% effort into her solo (which is pretty much set for November according to most). Some say there is a TTS comeback first too, which I am not too thrilled about since it will be tiring for her and fans. SeoTae both have solos soon so it's not particularly necessary either. But let's see and support her whatever her schedule looks like soon. She needs all the love and support she can get.

  9. well seo too posted in her instagram so she seems to like it

and yeah the pic is now a hot topic the article has more than 900 comments but top comments are still the same talking about how she's mature now and criticize the make up but it's not trajic there'll be always haters

Yeah but I knew it would get a lot of hate comments because any time she looks even a little bit puffy all the antis come crawling. Top comments are good thankfully but there are a lot of haters jumping on this (and a lot of people fighting them). 900 comments for just one shot is crazy (even articles with thousands of up votes hardly get a couple hundred overall comments). Her impact lol.

  10. Seohyun's acting is decent, especially considering lack of experience. What she needs is to find appropriate role in a good project. The K2 showed how important PD can be. The story is of course important to a drama, but what makes a drama great - good director. The director is responsible for the whole drama, for the look, the feel, the actor's acting, changes to the script. Good director can elevate a mediocre script into something golden. A script is very abstract, and often quite loose, a director has to think through every moment and figure out how every shot and sound will work together as a whole. So any drama is essentially a collection of choices that reflects the tastes and sensibilities of its director. If K2 looks like a movie, MoonL look like a commercial

I totally agree. A director is everything. That's why so many drama actors who are considered terrible do well in movies. There's a different style of filming and a different expectation of acting, plus more time for better editing. Drama directors have standard expressions they want. "Widen your eyes here" "huff here" "freeze on the kiss and don't respond" "act cute here". Movie directors usually expect a more naturalistic performance and don't have room for excess antics.

An actor can't actually see how the scene will look at the end of the day and can only rely on the director to guide their performance. Of course intuitive acting skills are important, but sometimes I think they are overestimated and a lot of "great actors" actually aren't that much better than mediocre actors, they just have luck with working with skilled people who can draw out their best. The same scene with different lighting, angle, cut-to, editing, or instruction can be either mediocre or stunning. It's really hard to know until the final cut, which is why they need to be visionaries.

This director is used to a spare, trendy and modern style focusing on 1-2 relationships and shouldn't have been at the helm of an epic saegeuk with so many characters and details to manage. There's not much "big" acting in KKT dramas either, as far as action or expressions. He focuses on aesthetics and closely catching the face in controlled but beautiful emotions. Having to manage so many actors and scenes and sets for this drama, especially on a strict schedule, didn't allow for him to bring out the best in all his actors. It's more "let's get it done" and "okay that works", from what I've seen of the BTS footage.

Also writers are so, so important. I really wonder what the 10 million dollar investment went into. The write for Moon Lovers' last project was Cinderella Man years and years ago. If you guys don't remember, it was a modern flop drama. Nothing notable or interesting about it. How on earth did they pick that writer of all the writers in Korea to be in charge of this drama? This same collection of characters with strong dialogues and character development could have been epic. Instead the lines are cheesy and inconsistent, the story has weird tone issues (is it a serious drama or a light one?) and the plot still isn't picking up 10 episodes in.

I believe Seohyun has strong foundational skills that need to be guided by skilled and talented people. A director that knows how to emphasize her strong points instead of drawing attention to her weak ones. That said, even with how hopeless Moon Lovers is and how many things are working against it, I'm proud to see she's improving and finding her way. She was really busy during filming and doing the musical at the same time, which is a completely different type of acting. Mixing up the two styles can be really easy and disastrous. But I can see her subtlety and awareness of the camera is much better before. She is not perfect yet but I can say confidently that she doesn't over-act, under-act, and she isn't wooden at delivering lines or emotions. Those are the worst problems. Her eye expressions and vocal manner are top notch. What she needs to work a little more is relaxing her gestures and body language, and more natural expressions with her mouth. But like you said, it's okay for now because she doesn't have a lot of experience. I see actors and idol-actors that have been leads in dramas for years that are still awkward and always fall into the same mistakes. Seohyun at least is always improving. I don't even consider this her first drama or acting role, just practice like Passionate Love and Anti-fan. Until she gets a full character (lead or second lead) that appears regularly, then people can truly start judging her acting.

  11. Even though we see her frequently lately it's so frustrating because it's just bits and pieces and more questions than answers.

I'm happy with her acting in episode 9. The scenes that were actually awkward to me were parts of the dance rather than the dialogue, which is surprising. I didn't like how the dance looked like a....commercial? The way it was filmed was awkward and the eye contact with camera felt out of place. I think I expected something moodier. Some of the angles they filmed at were also really strange. When she was walking towards the kids I think the look on her face could have been a bit more believable. Sometimes she tends to hand her mouth open too long and it is distracting. But this was only a brief second so not really a big deal, just nitpicking.

The back-and-forth with Baek Ah was pleasantly fun and I think she managed her expressions well, especially with expressions being what she's weakest at and this director's closeups being so unforgiving. She has good chemistry with the actor and they play off each other really well.

I think she's showing more improvement than I expected. It helps that the scenes are short and the drama being pre-produced. But now I really wish she can get more acting projects to really flesh out and build her skills. Something with decent screen time. She's obviously capable and a quick learner, she just needs to build more experience and a feel for relaxing in front of the camera.

What is happening with the web drama? Last I heard was filming would begin in August but since Moon Lovers filming wrapped Seohyun's been "resting". None of the other actors in the drama seem to be involved with it yet either. It's almost two months late for filming and three or four months since the press con....

It's not a perfect project but it was an opportunity for Seohyun to be on set and improve, and gain more fans in China. But guess not. Hope this means her next acting project is an even better or more interesting one.

  12. For real, "doesn't have time" my ass. Her appearance on Moon Lovers so far has more lines than all of SIMAAF and that was already super short. Whoever at SM is always cockblocking Seohyun can eat my ass with their favoritism BS.

She filmed Anti-fan during Mamma Mia rehearsals and filmed Moon Lovers during Mamma Mia's actual run. We know how exhausting musicals are and she did 45 shows. Woohee has 15-20 costumes so we know there at least that many different scenes. Yet the schedule that was apparently "too full" for T2B was April-August last year. Most of that time she was actually free, with no individual projects and no heavy SNSD schedules. She actually went into a quiet period for that time where stopped updating for a long time and we were anxious for news. Remember #SeohyunSurvivalReport? Other members were doing solo schedules during that time with no problem so preparation for the late summer comeback alone does not warrant 5 months being dismissed. It would not take her long to record her parts and learn a couple new songs. Mr. Mr. was prepared during the same time she was doing Moon Embracing the Sun. Hell, she rehearsed for Tokyo Dome (30+ songs), Infinity Challenge, Gone With the Wind, and year-end events at the same time last year. The T2B role was also a small one. She wouldn't need all 5 months to shoot if schedules were arranged wisely.

People still say "it's okay because she chose SNSD over the movie" but that's....simple. SNSD weren't touring or actively promoting. We know full well her schedule wasn't an issue and even if it was, she of all people could handle the load. We know how much she wants to do movies, specifically thrillers and action (she said at her birthday this year T__T). We know she wants to work with talented people. We also know that she went on Radio Star RIGHT AFTER T2B WAS DROPPED and talked about being frustrated with SM. "I just hate my company". It seemed very un-Seohyun-like, and the news of her missing Arch101 was really old and done with, so it was strange she would bring it up. But when you realize the timing, her anger made sense. It wasn't about the first movie but two.

This is all old news though and hopefully the futures holds better things. I want her to get everything she wants. SNSD, movies, musicals, and her solo. Because she deserves them and she can give her heart and effort to all of them. SM just needs to trust her.

  13. I really hope she renew the contract actually. I don't want her to be the only one to drop out. The best case scenario would be staying in SNSD but renegotiating more promotion in new contract.

Being in SNSD is a huge huge thing. It's not worth it to loose it like that. SM doesn't promote her right. But do you think that she would get better promotion form other company while having the "traitor" label form netizens and s*nes? Right now she's learning how to get the job on her own - it's an important thing to know. When SNSD disband or go on hiatus (I'm actually hoping for 2nd option) she will have that knowledge. The girls that got their promotion given probably will have it harder, without SM power. She'll be fine.

And come on... you say the movie SIMTAF was stupid. Yeah, but it was big too - and she WAS noticed as an actress a bit. Yes the drama now may be floppy but she WAS given an interesting charater. Those are small steps but they lead somwhere. I don't thing that throwing this big SNSD brand and throwing herseld into all the roles she finds would be better option. One false move and she get drown in hate-ocean. She's careful and that's wise.

I feel the same about the contract and frankly I don't find it realistic that she will break away. Though sometimes I do feel she is secure enough in herself that she won't be affected by hate, but if it downgrades her career opportunities (SM/former-SNSD will surely hang over her head for years if she tries to make it elsewhere), she wouldn't risk it.

My problem with SIMTAF lies more in the fact that SM used schedules as an excuse for her to not do Train in Busan (when she was actually free for most of the filming) but made her fly to China when she was at her busiest and most stressed for the the movie, only to show up for three minutes. It got okay first day box office results but tanked after that. I don't think Seohyun made any significant impression with the Chinese public given how small/insignificant her part was and how bad the overall project was. Three minutes in a questionable movie isn't being promoted as an actress. Half, if not most of the idols in SM have acted more than that, even the ones nobody even knows as actors.

Also good acting is remembered better when it's a good project overall. That's why I worry about Moon Lovers. Even if she acts well, the project itself isn't received well so there's actually more detriment to her image because more people are ready to hate. Though I do agree it's exposure, I just don't know if it's the best kind of exposure. Since the project was announced I knew it was going to get a lot of hate (I*U+ Remake + Overhype + Harem Concept + Too many rookie and idol actors). This is why kfans weren't excited at all even though Woohee herself is a great character. She might come out of it with a worse image. People hold "bad acting" or what they imagine is bad acting against someone for a long time, especially in a project this big. One article already got her 11K upvotes of blind hate.

This is why it's important to me she have something to supplement like a reality show, variety show, or at least more frequent magazines. They're the way to hearts. It doesn't have to be something gimmicky like jungles or dancing, there are a lot of popular human interest variety shows she could do well on. Abnormal Summit is one I really want her to appear on. Even if they just give her a handcam and make her film her day for 10-20 minute episodes, that's still a lot of good promo. With the web drama probably cancelled, she's completely free right now so I hope to see her start making moves soon. Don't want to get too pessimistic because we know she usually pops up with surprises. Still, I've learned to keep my expectations low.

  14. YulViv :imstupid:

As far as I know, that reality never took of and is just a photo teaser on instagram until know. :imstupid:

Moreover, Sister Slam Dunk is not all about Tiffany. Hell, I have even read feedback that Tiffany barely appeared on the show and the she even missed episodes. (Technically, this recent episodes would be the ones which she would appear more...but then, the snapchat filter scandal happened :imstupid:).

The only reality show that was all about one member, from the ones you mentioned, is Taengcam.

#chill seomate, like you said. The contratc renewal is coming up. If Seohyun feels ok with her current situation she will renew and if not she won't.

My point was when YR's solo was rumored and even now, there was actually serious movement to promote her to the broadcast public. An Onstyle reality show planned, back to back appearances/regular guesting on a number of variety shows, 4-5 new endorsements, and two dramas (OCN and web drama) as a lead character. Regardless of whether the OnStyle show was postponed, it WAS in the works. SM is putting an active effort to promote her well before her solo.

Unnies Slam Dunk was also a promo for Tiff, even if she wasn't the only one participating. I never said it was all about her. But she was on TV and promoting. I have no problem with Seohyun participating in that type of show. In fact, something like that is better for ratings anyway. She hasn't been a guest on a variety show in 6 years. WGM is her only solo activity ever. Tiff also had multiple magazine shoots and interviews every month for a long time before her solo. Seohyun's had just one in the last year, maybe even two or three years if you don't include TTS.

Seohyun's solo is projected September/October/November according to reliable kfans on DCSJH. That is really really really soon. So far there is NO hint of it at all. Aside from Mamma Mia (which she auditioned herself and only reaches a niche audience), and two minute appearances in a flop Chinese movie and flop Moon Lovers (only as a secondary SM package to Exo members), she hasn't been visible in the public eye at all. Her Chinese web drama has also been rumored cancelled as it's months late for filming with no news. There's no way around the fact that she's getting almost no serious individual hype or help at the moment.

Anyway I don't think it's as simple "renew or don't renew". Even if her conditions aren't satisfying, I doubt she will ever not renew. There is far much betrayal backlash to deal with in that case. She obviously loves SNSD. It's SM that's making things difficult. But like I said, I'll wait and see. Any day now maybe something will pick up for her.

  15. I feel like SM does really weird things with Seohyun. They are always ready to stick her into stuff where other SM idols are also involved, but they hesitate on all of her solo opportunities, despite the fact that she could be so much bigger than she is now. They don't even really support her when she does do her other work.

Everything about the way Seohyun is managed seems off. Sometimes I wonder why it's so hard for her just to catch a break or be utilized to her potential. She's talented, driven, and well-received but they treat her like a stock member to suit their convenience. I don't believe for a second it's just her "taking it slow" because she's been so vocal for so long about what she wants and all we ever find down the line is her opportunities are missed or hindered by the company. The fact that they turned down Train to Busan when she actually had months free to film and used "SNSD schedules" as an excuse makes my blood boil. Only to force her fly to China for months while she was breaking her back for a musical and she only appeared 3 minutes in that tragic movie. It's an insult to her seniority and musical activities. Or the fact they could have used Station as a much needed pre-cursor to market her solo which is coming up way too soon, but gave her an outdated CF duet that wasn't even acknowledged. Actually, it's funny and satisfying how Seohyun herself never acknowledged it. She was back posting on SNS right after it released but she only posted about Moon Lovers and her personal rest time.

Korean fans are talking about her solo coming in October and she's had ONE photoshoot. Even idols who aren't promoting do more. No word of variety appearances or planned reality shows (TaengCam, Unnie Slam Dunk, YulViv). Barely appears in Moon Lovers and now that's flopping too.

I keep telling myself Seohyun isn't stupid and she knows what she is doing so we just have to wait. Especially after this year. They are renewing contracts early next year and I hope she makes the most of that. Recently in Grazia she said she wants to do "more of this" (photoshoots, interviews, being honest, showing new sides). Also that she's determined to do a Korean movie next with a more adult image. I look forward to it so much.

  16. So I finally watched her clip (I still haven't caught up to the latest episode), and I thought her acting was fine? I don't get what was wrong. LOL I don't speak Korean but I like how she delivered her lines and her tone fit the dialogue; she sounded dignified and mature, like an actual princess. The only thing I can criticize her on is that she's too self-aware, like she's memorized her lines too much so it doesn't come off naturally but rehearsed. It would have been better if she improvised a little, like taking small pauses between lines and scratching her temple when she sighed to show that she was irritated; small details like that make her character more believable. But even then this is just me nit-picking because there really was nothing glaringly awful about her acting. She was only on screen for a minute and a half, what is there to even rag on? The scene was a good introduction to her character imo.

That's true, they even admit it themselves. This was in IU's NB article a few weeks ago.

. [+790, -64] Just go back to singing. Don't think that you can coast by with your average looks and skills somehow. People like Sung Yuri and Kang Min Kyung could coast by with their bad acting skills because their visuals would blow most actresses aside. What do you have going for you? Are you pretty? Do you have an amazing body? Is your acting daebak? There are already other actresses with your style like Park Bo Young and Shim Eun Kyung, how do you think you can survive that? ã…‹ã…‹

They sure do care about acting. ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹

So many actresses have been in the industry for years (like Yoon Eunhye), and are known for being mediocre at acting but they give them a pass anyways because they think they're pretty. At least with Seohyun this is only her 2nd role and it's small, so she has plenty of time to grow and improve.

The thing is, even the comments talking about Seohyun's looks praised her looks ("She's pretty as a singer but I don't know if her visuals as an actress are anything to brag about"). They KNOW she's not ugly. She has elegant and NATURAL features, perfect proportions, pale skin (this isn't important to me but it is to them -__-), a small head, a pretty profile, etc etc. Just by their own arbitrary checklist she has everything. And on top of that she's incredibly graceful, intelligent, kind, and hardworking. There are so many actresses I don't find even half as pretty or regal as her. This isn't just me being biased. I always felt from the beginning her beauty and presence was more "actress-like" than idol, even before I knew she was interested in acting. There are more conventionally beautiful faces but Seohyun's is versatile and classy, she has an aura. For the best actors that can play any type of character, that kind of beauty carries far more value than just "flawless" or "pretty". You'll see that even in Korea, the most respected actresses wouldn't even be considered visuals. Actors have to play PEOPLE at the end of the day, not model (side note: the model-turned-actors in this drama are even worse than the idols).

Trust me if she didn't have baggage as an SM idol and performed as well in her scene as she did, they wouldn't dare lash at her. I myself thought she was just fine (of course with room for improvement), but I've seen non-fans and established drama critics love her character say her acting was better than a lot of the cast's. They are the ones who usually have no mercy. It just proves the fuss is about nothing. 800 million viewers are watching in China alone, most who couldn't care less about acting controversies or visuals and just watch to relax, it's not that deep. People don't take these things that seriously outside the internet. If shows were to only have Oscars-worthy acting then Gossip Girl, Pretty Little Liars, Vampire Diaries, etc etc wouldn't be popular. Seohyun will get amazing exposure like supporting casts of Heirs did (another drama people hated on but look how it shot the cast to more fame and better projects).

Honestly, looking at the screen caps they included in that article, it's no surprise she was dragged for her looks, especially since they're always ready to drag idols. She's already in dirty makeup and hair. Her expressions looked fierce in motion but can be awkward in caps. Seohyun isn't always photogenic in that sense but the caps themselves are almost deliberately unflattering (upper one).

    2016091501001080500074571_99_20160914073

Journalists do this to attract swarms of commenters. Most  of the netizens will never watch the scene themselves and just go off a picture and the bandwagon the rude comments. It happens all the time everywhere, even here or on NB. So many times I believed someone was awful at acting because of netizen translations but then watch them myself and couldn't see what they were talking about.

Compare to the gif, you can really feel her menacing expressions and her eyes are fiiiiiiire. She is subtle and didn't over-act.

    231B324157D94BB81B35C1

    2272563557D94C22145D02

I loooove how her gaze is so powerful he doesn't even look at her. Look at her throat contract out of anger too. Small but perfect touches.

    230FBE4157D94BBD23F761

Anyway TL; DR she'll become an even better actress because of the criticism so we shouldn't live in a bubble and expect she always only gets positive comments. Moon Lovers has such a volatile number of fandoms and prejudices that there is no way anyone except the two male leads will come out unscathed.

Like I said, for me, she is completely fine right now. It's only her first scene in her first big drama hahahahaha. Some actors are terrible even after 10 years and multiple projects where they are lead characters. Knowing her though, she will read comments and want to prove herself even better (I want her to as well).

  17. It's also good to remember that even though 10k seems like a lot, it's not the end of the world. There's 50 million people in Korea. Seohyun once had an article calling her a plastic monster, pig, so many awful things trending and up voted to almost 20K. The time she posted a picture in a short wig. Hate is always passing. The comments in the acting article aren't even that bad. They're more like "ew idols are annoying but her part is short, oh well". They could be a lot worse. Some of the the other cast had articles in the beginning with thousands of up votes saying their acting was "worse than dogs" "worse than shit in a toilet". Let's be grateful they're not even trying that with Seohyun.

More attention, even if it's negative, means more people will look her up and decide for themselves. Often I read hate comments about other celebrities and then become more interested in them, and eventually I'm a fan. It's better than no attention at all.

  18. Here... i found other

    Seotae  :chu:

This doesn't even make sense because Taeyeon's OST is the theme for IU x 8th Prince....it has nothing to do with Seohyun lol. There are already some acting like this was her charity for a flopping drama only because Seohyun is in it which I find annoying because it's not as if either of them decide these things. Music director is in charge.

  19. Since Seo's appearing on the drama next week, I'm kinda worried since the opposing drama also had a somewhat gisaeng (female lead) dancing in front of the king scenario (which was heavily acclaimed by the K-public) . Knowing how obnoxious Knetz are, they might compare Seo in it since she will likely have to dance in front of the king too. I know that no doubt Seo will be great on that scene because she's basically been dancing more than half her life already. I just want to put all my trust to the director and to the editors/cinematographers to do their job well since they've been kinda messing up from the first 2 episodes.

I saw the scene in the opposing drama and although the actress is beautiful and graceful, she's young and not as trained as Seohyun in dancing. Especially very controlled, classical dancing, I have no doubt Seohyun will perform beautifully. Plus Seohyun has a lifetime of sageuk interest and a fantastic director behind her. I'm sure the scene will be beautiful. Not sure what we can do about obnoxious netizens otherwise. I've already accepted she'll probably be unfairly dragged but wishing with all my might she won't be. The rest of the cast got brutal criticism and they weren't even bad. Sometimes as Seomates we are too sheltered. The sensible people who are watching will stay sensible. I don't really care about her performance scenes because I KNOW she'll do great, and I'm not worried about angry or sad scenes, but casual dialogue and lighter moments are where she can sometimes be awkward. Again I hope the director was attentive enough to make sure all her scenes were her best and she herself improved. That's all I can hope for.

  20. Moon Lovers ratings are bad but it was to be expected with the competition. Two sageuks at the same time, obviously public will go for the one with actors they like more. Not a big deal. We still get to see Seohyun in a beautiful drama and hopefully she'll show us some great acting. If not, it's lucky fewer people are watching than hyped. I'm really excited for her chemistry with BaekAh. Even her couple second previews show sparks. Worried a bit about all the closeups in this drama as facial expressions are sometimes Seohyun's weakness but I trust the director guided her well and we'll see the best she has to offer. Hopefully she won't be bashed too much (or at all, but I want to be realistic about things). Can't wait for next week and can't wait for her to start filming her web drama and moving along with her solo.
