  1. oh I see ! what confused me more is that even in this example, it sill is considered a 'run' , since it's more like the same set of notes/pattern repeated with agility, with one note being more emphasised than the others (I myself fail to name it a run though, it's much more like a melisma based on that system) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YvvuR83scNc at 4:21
  2. (meanwhile someone answers since I'm interested as well in the first link) I guess it's half half, there's something going on with his throat (and a bit of high larynx) and there may be some playback as well ..
  3. hi guys ! I today had a talk with a choir/vocal student and we had that talk about agility , and the thing is that here in the French system of vocal teaching and stuff, a run is differenciated from a melisma, like  a run is repetitively hitting the same note many times in a fast connected way, while a melisma contains many notes , ups and downs. Why isnt it the same in other vocal systems, which tend to make it the same thing regardless of the notes ? ( a run then is something like 3:44 and 4:09  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GAOduwe9C2Y )
  4. if Ailee gets to have support down to F3 , up to F#5 and get rid of her chesty approach in her mixed voice, could she be considered Great ?
  5. this comment freaked me out. Such a coincidence ! I stumbled over this comment and read 'that run is no no', 'F3s', 'B5 before' and 'mezzo' and this is exactly ALi's stuff, but then I read the whole comment and it's different lol
  6. This article was the only thing that did pop in my mind so I did link it, since mainly I'm not interested in developing a knowledge that concerns vocal tips and vocal instructions, that's why I only checked the first paragraphs of the article and they seemed to match the whole subject while I didnt really check the rest of the article that has to do with tips and stuff ^_^ Sohyang ? really? link please
  7. I guess this article could help ^^ http://www.singwise.com/cgi-bin/main.pl?section=articles&doc=GoodToneProductionForSinging&page=4
  8. I guess it has to do with 'bridging' the registers. It's an approach by which a singer tries to connect their registers through their relative passagi, as in trying to soften and make the passagio seemless when a singer is supposed to sing/slide/jump between two registers without having that 'break' in the voice that results mainly from the natural passaggio and shift in the production type of the different registers. It helps as well in transitions and embellishments around one's natural passagi (I'm no one to answer though)
  9. I guess I get it, somehow ... like for example, Ive seen that you watched both EXO's My Answer performance and Kim Yeonji's IS2 performances. would you define Baekhyun's tense A4 and Kim Yeonji's tense Eb5/E5 with glottal tension ? if not, then does these kinds of tension have other names or specifications or they're just 'tension' created with an overall unproper technique ? Im sorry for my vague questions but I cant seem to find someone credible to ask beside the ones in this thread and the blog ^^
  10. Hi again ! I was on the wordpress blog and I got really curious about a thing I realised that the term of 'glottal tension' is getting used frequently compared to last year and so so is it some different type of tension that is not the same as throat tension or other physical tensions ? Does it have its own signs or it is an advanced approach to analyse the quality of a tense tonality ? all I know is what the 'glottis' is and what a glottal attack/onset is but I guess the last one doesnt reeally have to do with the mentionned glottal tension
  11. ah yes the classical approach for more volume and projection.. Thanks a lot for the clarifications !!
  12. his nasal falsetto is like a 90s' nightmare lol and sorry for this quick intrusion into the thread x)
  13. so someone can actually sound froggy with swallowing his tongue without attributing a lowered larynx ? is that supposed to be slightly better than a swallowed tongue+lowered larynx or the contrary ?
  14. there's that thing I have confusion about when it comes to Jonghyun. I'm mainly not a fan and his tone is unpleasant for me, so I'm not really aware of his true centrilized tone, which sometimes lead me to think that he uses a weird swallowed approach to make his voice sound slightly darker/less brighter, but in a slight froggy way, since Ive already listened to some of his A4s and G#4s that seemed brighter in tone and timbre. And that's the same case for his G#4 in this performance, I got confused of whether it's actually his balanced tone or more like a swallowed tone with maybe a slightly lowered larynx, so I just took up what VT Evil Queen said and took it for opened/relaxed
  15. Thanks ! Ive read some explanations that are concerned with the shape of the mouth/jaw with oo and ee vowels but it wasnt really... satisfying
  16. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6viT2Cb72nA
  17. Hi ! I have that small question but why is the 'oo' sound/vowel seem to be more easy when it comes to projection and stability ? especially for head voice ?
  18. I guess Jonghyun's was more opened since Taemin's jaw position wasn't really correct
