I honestly think the reason why sm won't debut johnyusol all together or at the beginning is to keep the hype.

They have always been more of the popular sm rookies members and logically thinking if u have a bunch of popular guys and your plan is to have several units with other unknown members then it's better to split those popular members with lesser known members to get more exposure and popularity. I mean having a popular unit with johnyusol and having an unpopular unit with unknown members is worse than having several semi popular units with each popular member in it. SM most likely didn't want to debut johnyusol with nct u to use up all popular members at once. So now that Yuta is going to debut Hansol and Johnny might debut separately in different units or maybe even together
