1. But it's kinda still on topic, we are after all talking about our love of variety shows. I started watching because I wanted to understand the culture, I contribute watching because they are good and they really do make my day. If I have a bad day at work, I can go back and watch one of my favorite episodes and laugh my head off. I know people who feel the same way about western sitcoms, so it's a universal thing. People love to laugh. IC is the one that makes me do that the most, so it's the one I post about all over this site. I hope others do too. The way people are so serious on here, some laughter will do the place some good.
2. Oh man, that last one. I remember my mom doping similar things to me...the bangs had to be on point.
3. It seems like the one with more clear cut "seasons" are more active. Roommate was pretty active when I started lurking, but it was canceled shortly after I signed up so it died pretty quickly. SMTM & UR are both pretty active. Crime Scene was pretty active while it was airing. Abnormal Summit was more active when it was subbed regularly, but sadly that's not the case anymore. Its the long running shows that don't really include idols that don't get much love on here. Personally, IC is my top show, but it's also really well known for having guests usually, so I can get why people wouldn't love it. but something like Happy Together that has a really good mix of actors, comedians, idols, other singers, athletes and anchors would seem to appeal to more people, but it doesn't either. it really seems like the shows with the more "western" format do better on here. I try to spread the love of variety by posting clips or talking about shows elsewhere, I doubt I'm doing much, but I'm trying. The idols can be fun and I get why people love them, but I feel like you don't really get to understand their culture if all you do is watch their performances/short clips. I don't know about everyone else on here, but when I like something, I want to understand it better so I tend to look around for ways to do that. but then again, that could just be becasue I've been out of school for so long and have to come up with different ways of being "a lifelong learner". (now excuse me while I go vomit, that's such an accurate but pretensions phrase)
4. I think that an ok from the mods should be gotten first. If people got hyped up about it and then the answer came down "we aren't doing that at this time" feelings would be unnecessarily hurt. if they did give the go ahead, than they would probably treat them like groups in which the official logo would be the badge, so voting wouldn't be necessary. I do think it could be interesting & productive to start a thread in the variety section to see who is interested in show badges. that could also help in convincing mods that it's worth their time/effort to create kvariety badges. obviously you can't have one for every single show, but how long running should it before it's eligible? would shows that ran for awhile, but aren't on anymore be eligible (there are some old ones that people mention on here all time as liking, but they are no longer airing). there would be some kinks to be worked out first.
5. I asked about that once, if they had ever considered badges for long running tv shows like group badges (I consider IC to be my bias group when replying on here. Half the time it's just to point out how annoying it is). I was told that it had been mentioned but nothing was ever decided. If people keep asking about it in the ask a mod thread then they might seriously consider it. Right now there probably isn't enough interest, but I wouldn't mind having a badge for a couple of variety shows.
6. You are right, it is kshow, not ksub. I don't mind them, they have such a nice back log of shows if you want to see older shows. Ply they upload shows that you don't find everywhere so o it's a nice 'clearing house'. Dramafever has ads, dramafire does not. I do have a couple of different ad block extensions on my browser though, so that could also be why I don't s see ads if they do have them. Give them a go, they have three video options and are easy to download (I like to download dramas to my phone which I watch while eating my lunch, it's a nice break from the busy grind and I can just delete it once I'm done, saves data that way). I'm always up for trying out a new site if someone find one. I find that some times its easier to go directly to the subber, but I have to go to KSO first to find out who that is.
7. why do people bring their issues with other websites here?  stop the passive aggressive bullshit and deal with the issues where the originate.  I don't go to those other places and I don't give a rats ass what happens there or what people there think.  if I did, I would have made an account there and not here.
8. dramafire seems to always have 1n2d, running man, infinity challenge & return of superman first. otherwise I use KBS World's yt channel or ksubsonline.
9. Henry wasn't as uncomfortable to watch as he has been in the past, so that makes me happy. though I did feel a little bad for defconn being with both Henry and Joonyoung, they are both a little out there... I think John Park was on the perfect team. He has a more reserved personality and Jongmin is a good person to put him with so that he is comfortable. Junho's suggestion to "practice" during the down time really seemed to help him get warmed up and ready to be more aggressive. I can't believe that 'church boy John Park' said that it felt nice to play dirty. maybe Junho wasn't such a good idea after all... the actors group is kinda boring, but I think that's just because they have the three most serious personalities on this trip. but Joon being the oldest of the group is kinda funny. the guys aren't used to someone older than them, especially when he acts like he's one of the younger ones. I like that guy.
10. I was talking about Henry. I know people have made comments about him being inappropriate, but honestly, I haven't watched him so I wouldn't know. I missed out so much on the episode of Roommate he was on...that made me sad. I haven't seen John Park that much, but I was ok with him on Happy Together (I think that's the last thing I saw with him?). Plus, Jongmin doesn't get much love, so it's really nice to see someone who is happy to work with him.
11. I missed Junho, but it was still a really fun trip. No offense to Choo Sunghoon, I just am not a fan of his. I was already so happy to see Junho back when he stole Jongmin's envelope, just in case it was a girl. He's really grown on me and become one of favorites. I like all of the guest external for Mr awkward Canadian. I don't do awkward (I will literally get up and walk out of the room to avoid it on tv, I just can't handle it). It will be interesting though, it sounded like they all had problems understanding korean in the preview.
12. Yasssssssss!!!!!!!!! Drag them no good messy hoes!!!!!! It's our employee apperication well and my boss is shoring off emails left right and center and I don't think there is a single department left with any weave (they are funny emails, but everytime someone comes back for his, he snatches their whole departments). I am dying of laughter, nor sure how much work I will get done today, but THANK GOD I LOVE MY OFFICE, life would be so miserable otherwise.
13. I'm old to and never got into kpop (though I do listen to some now, but not like the fans on here). I hinged up here because I don't know anyone who watches Asian dramas or variety, so even if threes sections are pretty low key, at least I can find someone.
14. I go to the random section all the time and answer questions about biases using IC for the group and YJS for my fav. I try to spread the variety love, but I'm pretty much ignored. So I just politely one fun at the idols, that's fun too.
15. What's up with the attitude that other people can't possibly be educated about the topic at hand and are just jumping to conclusions? Not everyone on there is a 14 year old fangirl. Epically in politics and history. Those are such complex issues that should never be taken at face value. It's not math people. You have to actually review the information and form your own opinion. You can't just say "well a+b=c this one time so it's always the case". Honestly, do they even teach people how to think for themselves in school?
16. The way in which it was said I didn't think it was bad, just odd. But thanks for clarifying. After her running man appearances, I know Jessi still has some problems with korean, so I want sure if she misspoke or not.
17. I understand why people are bashing Trudy, but honestly, it just feels like she has a lot of growing up to do. She's not signed to any record label and no one really knew about her coming in. I think she's really going after it, but she doesn't really know how to best do that, and she doesn't really have anyone around to help her. obviously that will get better with time, but at this point, that's how I see her. crazy talented, but really needs to mature a bit. also - the whole sua thing seemed staged to me, it just reaked of bad acting and didn't seem real at all. I've been wrong before though. Jessi's reaction to Trudy was cute. "she's booger sized" what does that even mean?? one of the things that I loved about Jessi is that she's super honest. she didn't want anything to do with KittyB at first, but at the end she said that she should have gotten the nod instead. how many others would have been that open minded? seriously like her more and more the more I see her.
18. as a person who loves and adores braids, I just can't help but correct you. that is just a dutch a braid, not cornrows. A dutch braid is the same thing as a french braid, but the hair sits on top of the head, rather than underneath like in french braid. cornrows imply lots of small dutch braids, and can be done in a patten or just in rows. like this: there is also a fishtail braid, a four or five strand braid, a milk maid braid, a crown braid, a twisted braid, and I could go on and on. they are all fablous no matter who is wearing them. -------------------- I'm late to the party, just watched the subbed episode earlier today. I was really impressed with how Yubin spoke up. It was forceful, but not at all disrespectful. it's a change from Jessie, but I hope that people don't ever get afraid of saying what they think. can someone shoot kasper with a tranquillizer? the girl moves around too much, is obviously in love with herself, and sounds like a fool every time she speaks.... "why are we being nice when we are just going to talk bad about each other later?" um...maybe because that's how your culture works? thought you might have already known that.... edited to add - is there something wrong with Yezi? and what was up with all the f-bombs from the start? it took almost until the end before Jimin dropped one and it had IMPACT. I think almost everyone (espically all of the younger ones) have already dropped one and/or flipped off the camara. it felt so cheap (and reminded me of this from Will Smith's "Nice Guy": Dissed by Eminem but did it bother him (yup)/But he classy Big Will just get another 20 mil/And walk right pass E. the ones who didn't resort to that really did seem classier to me)
19. WARNING: there is poor language choices below, but I am furious right now.   I am so unbelievably disappointed in Infinity Challenge right now.  I had to skip over 1/3 of ep 445 just because it was nothing but SK government propaganda.  I get a news show having that type of thing, but this a variety show.  ep 444 already felt skewed towards that but this time it was loud and clear "Japan is evil, Korea are saints".  fuck outta here with that shit.   political rant below, feel free to bypass
both countries have serious issues accepting their past and moving the fuck on.  both countries have done good and bad things since the end of WWII. (Japan may be going for a some revisionist history these days, but SK sure seems to have selective memory about post-war compensation, it got it, it just used it politically rather than passing it on the the people who suffered.)   I get that the people in Utoro Village are being forced off of the land that they have called home since the days of forced labor.  I get that this a terrible thing.  However, the place they are living is not sanitary.  Also, they were/are squatters.  They have chosen to remain in Japan (the grandmother did say that she had gone back to Korea to visit, but she chose to go back to Japan to live out her days).  If you live in one country, you have to abide by their laws.  It didn't feel like it was an issue of racial targeting, but they sure tried to make it out to be that.  bitch please.  if the local sewer backs up into your yard/house when you have a hard rain, you shouldn't live there. it's for public safety more than anything.   and then going on about an island being designated a UNESCO heritage site for a time period that didn't include forced labor so they didn't have to mention it and then getting all butt hurt when Japan decided not to mention it after all.  um...what country wants to make themselves look bad in perpetuity?  Japan admitted they did wrong.  Japan has issued numerous apologizes.  if you are too petty to accept that and move the fuck on, that says WONDERS about you.  Germany did terrible things too, but they get on just fine with their European neighbors.  so stop play the fucking victim.  I think there are many interesting and awesome things about South Korea, so can't you focus on those and moving forward rather than keeping your citizens mindset in the past?
IC is made first and foremost for the population in SK, so I won't say anything about how terrible it was as an international fan to be subjected to that.  Instead, how terrible must it be to live in a country with freedom of the press (and they do seem to do better with than some other places that claim to have that same freedom), but to see a SUPER popular tv show reduced to nothing more than a cog in the agenda of the political machine.  PD Kim.  Haha.  and Yoo Jae Suk a bit  .  I am so fucking disappointed in you all.  How dare you think so little of your viewers that you just mindlessly spew out the government's hate like it should be accepted at face value.  If you are going to present a politically charged story, you should fairly show all sides.  but you can't, and you didn't.  Just stick to entertaining and stop trying to "educate" people.
20. So I am watching my boys playing football and my hands down absolute favorite player on the team since Kurtz retired just hit a 50 yard fields goal. Now, I am currently "out of range" so I can't call home and gush about it to my dad, so please forgive me for gushing here, complete with the teams fight song.

since we are playing the only people on earth that I consider to be evil, vile and of the devil, I am very happy at half time. The sad thing is they usually lose, so I will just have to enjoy this moment.
21. Whoever the artist was during Haha's narration did amazing that was so beautiful. I get a bit prickly about WWII related things in Asia (all sides needed to learn to let things go so they can move on), so I won't say anything about this story.
