2PM Brings Their GO CRAZY Tour Stateside - MTVK CONCERT REVIEW
6 years since their debut and 4 years since opening for the Wonder Girls on their stateside tour, boy band 2PM finally embarked on their own world tour this year — which meant returning to the States for four stops where hundreds of Hottests gathered to see their favorite beastly idols. The boys ended the US leg of their GO CRAZY World Tour on November 21, 2014 at LA’s Shrine Auditorium, where they treated their loyal fans to a night of non-stop partying, complete with hit singles, never-before-seen unit stages, and of course some shirt-ripping.
Going off of their most recent title track “Go Crazy,†the entire concert was dedicated to creating a club-like atmosphere. Even prior to the start of the show, remixes of 2PM’s popular tracks blared from the speakers, which got fans up and dancing, while the bass shook the floors of the entire auditorium.
Thundering sounds of a heart beat opened the concert, and Jun.K, Nichkhun, Taecyeon, Wooyoung, Junho, and Chansung took the stage ready to have some fun with their LA Hottests. The guys wasted no time getting fans hyped, performing a medley of their high energy songs like “Hot†and “Go Crazy!†And who could forget “10 out of 10,†where Junho cartwheeled and back-flipped across stage, further contributing to their title of acrobatic idols.
With years of experience under their belt, 2PM set themselves apart from some of the other K-Pop acts we’ve seen earlier this year—especially thanks to their more relaxed stage manner. Talk breaks were a cue for the group to turn on their charm, joking with the audience, sharing what they did in LA, and poking fun at each other.
Instead of the usually scripted English comments, US natives Taecyeon and Nichkhun (the latter being from LA) took command and led the other members in explaining what each song they performed was about. Even the non-American members like Jun. K, Wooyoung, and Chansung did their very best with the language, while Junho blatantly told the crowd that he was “very bad at English,†and kept playfully grabbing the audience’s attention by saying “focus†(which later become his catch phrase for the night).
Equally unique were the unit stages, in which all of the tracks performed were produced and written by the members themselves. Whether it was Chansung and Taecyeon’s sexy performance of “Come Back to Me†(which ended with the two shirtless), Wooyoung and Jun. K’s cool, hip-hop/trap deejaying stage for “Supermanâ€, or Junho and Nichkhun’s sweet and dandy arrangement of “Love is True,†the boys seemed determined to show off the group’s many different faces, and the crowd enjoyed every single bit of it.
However, what was most impressive about the show was the fluidity of each of the performances. From super fast outfit changes to the smooth transitions of hit tracks, 2PM made sure that the audience stayed attentive. It also helped that the stage was constantly in motion with the addition of staircases and platforms.
The concert was all about the visuals — with LED screens that had a new background to match the song being performed, outfits that looked like they were straight out of the music videos, and the sea of purple, red, and green lights that came from star light sticks fans held up high throughout the show. Eye candy came in the form of hip thrusts, more shirt ripping, and body rolls in “I’m Your Man†and “A.D.T.O.Y,†which were clearly meant to cater to the older crowd.
2PM saved their best chart-toppers for last, winding down their setlist with some career-defining tracks like “Again & Again,†“I Hate You,†and “I’ll Be Back†before reappearing on stage for three encore songs. As much as LA was the last stop on the US leg of their world tour, the boys stayed on stage until the very end, taking pictures with fans, personally taking gifts, and promising to return very soon.
