Was there a particular reason Tencent might suppress her screen time in the beginning?
-
Her clips in prev eps, I think it's 5&6. She asked the guest celeb speaker about why just based on skill she's better than some people but how come based on just looks alone others can gain the love and support of the viewers. Also her bts footage from Mulan says and her speech to get live audience voters to vote for her, how they have the power to re-create a girl group's standards. Her fans really are the ones who elevated it to the next level by spreading it in their friend groups, her fans created these voting chants for her that rhyme and are funny. Even non watchers of the show know these chants because it gets sent in friend group chats. So once voting opens again on Tuesday, is it already for ep 10 final rank results? Then it's already certain that Tencent is not doing a live voting held only during the time that ep 10 airs. 15 and 10 are such random vote numbers given final group will be 11. These changes will deflate the influence fans' money can have on the results. Fans got gypped though, they've been fundraising for weeks and weeks and now these voting cards might not have much impact. Can't help but notice, all of these changes will negatively affect Sunnee. Supposedly, Tencent previously allowed contestants to accept outside activities while on the show but later changed their mind. Sunnee's company withdrew a contestant after she had already accepted another job, I think acting gig. During this process their relationship soured and their companies' trainees were suddenly cut from any significant air time starting around ep 3.

Read that final rank may be top 11 pick, not one pick.

I'm neutral to Meiyun, but I'm surprised by her big increase in popularity over the last few eps. There are a lot of Meiyun fans. I could understand Zining's sudden rise more than Meiyun's.

About Jiangshen,

Good to see Chaoyue working hard and knowing her reality. She's been much more mature about her situation than I thought she could be. Like seeing depth and thoughtfulness in her words. She's actually quite quick on her feet when speaking. Outside of top 3 rank is much more fitting for Chaoyue, it will also lessen the pressure she's been carrying as well.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong. But I'm fairly sure that by voting for a contestant on Doki, you also automatically have followed their account. So comparing number of fans on Doki is one way to have an idea of what the ranking will be like. Of course, factors such as how good the fans are about voting every day and how many cards are bought will influence the final results. This is what kazed mentioned earlier as well about why Wangju's rank is questioned. Zixuan has 2x, 3x, even 4x the amount of Doki fans as those around rank 23, she also has a much stronger fanbase than those near that ranking as well so you'd reasonably expect the daily dedication and number of cards bought to be higher as well. Zixuan's Doki fans numbers also edge out those in the 13-16 ranking area that are in a tight competition for final debut spot.

Do you have the CNN/BBC link? And thanks for that translation, lol. I couldn't tell if they were being mean about her visuals or just saying she had bad facial expressions.

Also a sucker for variety. Personality is the biggest reason I stan. Possibly part of the reason of not being as attached is that there's so much footage outside of the official eps that are barely getting subbed. But I agree, for example I was mildly invested in #1 hardoworking center from F class but Tencent literally didn't return to that storyline ever again and I didn't even realize until after the episode ended. And the last elimination announcement was really too cut and dry to the point of being cruel to the eliminated contestants.. Really enjoy reverse charms, and it was nice to see Chaoyue not be a bumbling mess and be able to do something well. Was an interesting moment to see the difference in how Chaoyue grew up vs Xuanyi grew up. Chaoyue is known to be from a poor family, Xuanyi is rumored to be super rich.

If I weren't a big Zixuan fan, I would be fully enjoying what's happening but every time a contestant starts gaining steam and becomes popular, it's one less spot Zixuan has the possibility to take. My criticism toward Wangju/her fans is that she's somehow come to represent being a skilled contestant that doesn't have to rely on looks. But tbh she isn't one of the most skilled contestants be it in singing or rapping. What she excels in is the attitude and the confidence, which I can understand the stan factor in that alone. In terms of having a hard time or being ranked unfairly, there are many contestants as well who could complain, they just didn't voice it out like she did and now they're off the show or in danger of being off the show. Still think Wangju fits solo more, just her attitude alone already is solo-esque. And I have a hard time believing Wangju herself will be happy with the songs that Tencent gets for this girl group. Already believe it will be next to impossible for Tencent to create a girl group style/sound that everyone will like, and working with the diversity this group will have, it will be even more impossible. I have 0 expectation for this group's material and next to no expectation for Tencent's investment in the final group though so... C-ent has never seeked for global attention or success the way that K-ent has. K-pop borrows a lot from Western culture, and there's the mentality that the next level of success to strive for is always global popularity. Maybe because China's population is so massive, there hasn't ever really been this same mentality. And if you notice, there's a lot of pride in maintaining Chinese elements in the music. Tao saying China's girl group should have unique Chinese style. Both composition teams wanting to go with a traditional Chinese sound. Yibo adding in that dance move because it's really popular but the girls' first reaction was hesitance and thinking it didn't look good.

Exactly the way I felt when I started to get into c-ent 4 years ago after obsessing over k-ent. Breath of fresh air. The celebrities are a lot more real and speak their mind. It's not so heavy on the manufactured image that they need to maintain and they don't have to live in fear of saying something that can be misinterpreted and taken out of context. Literally fell down a youtube rabbit hole and became a massive S.H.E fan overnight because of how hilarious and real they are. Saw a P101 reaction video. The girl is Chinese but in Korea as an exchange student atm. Said that in Korea there's a hive mentality. People are literally bullied, ridiculed, shunned for being different or outside the norm. When there's a new fashion fad, everyone has it and they're all wearing the same exact thing. It's looked down on to think differently, to question those older. I think it's really really cool that so many different contestants have all gained such a big following that the results are hard to predict and a close match. China has only started playing catch up recently, but actually in this aspect they have much more progressive views than Korea does.

thxx! Been voting MeiXuan, both seem to really like Douzi, plus I'd like to see Meiqi as center. Zixuan's posts/comments are all about how she's really talented, hardworking, good personality, etc and should be saved. Based on the post I think has the highest likes, comments are in favor of Meiqi. Rough summary below

I hate that they're so good at this game. Even if fans are aware they're being played, they have to keep playing.. If final rank is live voting and one pick, it is an advantage to contestants with strong fanbases. And Sunnee has one of the strongest fandoms. Like I said, if a fanbase gets cheated, you're only going to make them mad and work triple, quadruple as hard. I'm not sure how much longer they can keep fighting like this, but I'm rooting for them. I'm slightly worried if Zixuan fans will be able to work as hard for top 11 as they did for top 22. They may feel relieved enough about saving her from top 22 elim that they are satisfied and can make peace if she doesn't make top 11. Renyu and Fujing fans are in a situation where they can drum up more fire, one getting closer and closer to top 11, one just recently kicked out of top 11. Never disliked Wangju, and at this point I don't care if she makes top 11. I'm just too busy worrying over Zixuan.
-
Zixuan will have a hard time making top 11, but it's not completely out of the question. I'm not sure how much her fanbase was sucked dry though just getting her into top 22. Certainly an additional disadvantage compared to others around the debut cutoff. Keep in mind this is within a 15hr or so voting window, and I believe an accumulation of votes on top of what came in from ep 8. Jump from 23 -> 16 and one of the largest increases in vote totals, you can consider it impressive. Casual viewer/voter base has likely not yet watched. Any significant positive impact if she gets one from ep 8, will only be really appreciated 2 rankings from now. Same thing happened with 2nd live performance. With the quick turnaround of elim to 36, the large changes in popularity were only shown the next ranking after elims.

Rumored rank from kazed earlier with vote counts
-
What good will hate from other fandoms do? I doubt a significant portion of them were sharing votes with Wangju to begin with. WJ fanbase unaffected, and if final vote is one pick, then even moreso there will be no effect.
-
I think WJ will make final group. There's been hate between all the fanbases this entire time, I even see beef between Meiqi and Xuanyi fanbases. Wangju votes are not sympathy votes..
-
True, from a Western standpoint, Wangju's visuals aren't that atypical. From China's pov there's literally no female celebrity that looks like her.
-
Would have thought go to to be Yamy or Sunnee. They've both been doing the anti-establishment and underrepresented role since the start. Guess Wangju was just louder about it.
-
It's fun and all to chant her fan voting rhymes, fun and all to use her as a meme. I have yet to believe her popularity is more than just a fad and can turn into a stable foundation of support throughout her future career. Also did anyone ever figure out why she's such an LGBT icon? Are Chinese LGBT that easy to garner support from? If I had to make a rank guessing who might be gay on the show, Wangju wouldn't have even crossed my mind..
-
Wangju votes surpassed Meiqi now trending #1, save Zixuan still going strong at 2. Tencent wins.
-
Can tell, look at how much screentime they immediately gave to Wangju after she started going viral. Every step of the way they are trying to create a controversial topic to get everyone buzzing and arguing heatedly. It's not that the viewers are flippant, legit believe Wangju went viral across the country, or at least across the internet. The amount of them that actually voted...not sure.

My bad, I swear I'm dyslexic translating between Chinese names and English romanization
-
New info out Yeah I like all 3. Kimberly and Angela could go solo and do well if they have good support... Lucia my fave of 3A..........
-
Zixuan able to make it to trending searches at #2, numbers even just increased still... it can't all be fans, shows she has good casual viewer/general public recognition and likability. Her fan strength also reasonably can say is in top 10 on the show. Tencent seriously... Sorry I probably won't shut up about this for some time, still salty. If ppl keep going, she might even become #1 trending. #1 slowly decreasing, Zixuan still rising. Now just 30k diff Edit: 'save zixuan' tag just overtook and became #1 trending. bittersweet
