  1. she isn't that popular with the gp loona international fandom is basically keeping them afloat
  2. while i'm proud when rising groups win on the show.....the show itself isn't really a good measure of popularity... fromis don't have a huge international fandom yet, which helps on the show with voting at least.
  3. this fromis biggest problem is the lack of comebacks tho for a group that's barely active during the year there stans are still loyal and still continue gain new ones.
  4. CONNNGRATSSS BANGTAN #1 ON BILLBOARD!!!!!!!!! ALSO HAPPY FESTA Y'ALLLL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  5. yep their impressive, but also groups like dreamcatcher/loona can get stuck in the mid-tier level of never having a real breakthrough till they eventually disband. and then we find out later they were not making much money while active.
  6. typical struggles of groups not from major korean ent company + rising to mid-tier group + mainly popular with ifans... these groups always in risk of losing fans to the next trendy group with in a few years. due to them mainly attracting fans who tend to jump around
  7. yea this is sort of true. bts on tour is one of the main reasons hobi has been able to grow his individual fanbase. his presence and power on stage is can't be ignored. it started with red bullet tour and solidified during love yourself tour especially among latin fans. absolutely agree with this. especially with bts. each member individual fandom is more then any other kpop group right now. which is why the over pity for certain members is not necessary.

    ?

true kpop fans are talking more about her more due to bts. so that's why so many threads are popping up even on OH xD
  9. This. OP kpop has NEVER been ahead musically Visually maybe sometimes yes, but musically not so much. (fashion and music videos are worthy of it's international praise) Kpop music has always been influenced by older Western trends and heavily relied on fandoms. I mean, there's a reason kpop has never been able to compete on Western charts or make actual impact in the West. So far Bts is the only group to really make huge waves in the West. So I guess that has people thinking Kpop as a whole is competitive o.o?? About Bts: They did what they always do in terms of music if we look at it from the stand point of the kpop industry and not the western. Dynamite was hit and they released a similar sounding follow up song. Very typical of Kpop companies. I'm interested to hear what they do for their next main English comeback. If they follow the kpop formula it will be something different.
  10. nowadays more companies try to at least have some skilled rappers - those who actually know how to write lyrics, produce and maybe even have some predebut experience. however in the past it was simply a filler role - handed out by companies to the member who couldn't sing or dance but visually had a strong image or personality that the company liked and didn't want to let go. idol rappers use to be seen as untalented in korea. i agree, not every group need rappers.
  11. How each induvial interprets "sub" is different. It seems kpop companies who use the prefix (not a lot of them use the prefix tho...) are more so trying to say the member has a supporting role rather then something negative like "below" or "less then". Unlike fans, some companies [producers] are looking at one choir/assemble rather then a group of induvial soloist. In a choir not everyone can be the lead and main otherwise musically it wouldn't sound good. Supporting roles are just as important if not more sometimes. I personally wouldn't say least experience. Basically, I think the intentions were originally positive, not negative. However in general, I think the prefix is unnecessary too simply because it do cause confusion among fans. Saying "vocalist" or "dancer" is good enough. The sub vocalist(s), also known simply as the vocalist, supports main and lead vocalists. Their vocals may only be heard for a few seconds in each song, but they help to move the song forward by providing an additional link between the main and lead vocalists. (cr. kprofiles)
  12. center. or more specific the jpop concept of center. which became popular and official in the kpop industry due to produce franchise. giving more parts or spot light to a member simply because they won #1 or basically the most popular member in the group can be problematic in so many ways...overall it's unnecessary. in the past "center" wasn't even an official position. it was something that was just sort of assumed for a few groups. main example would be bts jungkook. he's always been the unofficial official center only for photoshoots and press wall. i don't mind this type of center tho, since having an official sanding position always been a thing in kpop.
  13. adding on - i would be highly surprised if brave girls won for soty. not even exid won for up and down which was bigger then rollin... right now out of everyone listed bts (butter) has the most wide spread impact in korea right now. and the more butter continues to do well internationally the better bts chances of winning soty and/or aroty
  14. official twitter launched: [Girls Planet 999] A great story for 99 people from Korea, China, and Japan The final 99 people selected after a five month journey The great story of the girls begins <Girls Planet 999 : The Girls Saga> 2021. 08 COMING SOON
  15. true. even rollin don't compare to some of the previous kpop hits. i'm hoping the second of the year will have more momentum
  16. bts hasn't released their main korean comeback yet. there's been a lot great stuff release, but at the same time nothing hugely impactful yet in my honest opinion. we're almost half way through the year. traditionally for soty it gets harder for those releasing in the second part of the end of the year. unless it's a big hit like dynamite.
  17. seeing underdogs rise will always be one of the most pleasing thing to see. for example: anyone who have been a fan of bts since the very beginning will get it. it's surreal to think about how different things are now.
  18. well, since this thread is already a whole mess lol... i'll say something controversial and debatable... while there are many 2nd gen girl groups who had empowering lyrics.... i'm not even a stan, but i think todays fashion and style of "girl crush" in kpop was popularized by blackpink. for example although snsd or 2ne1 might have been the first time kmedia used the word "girl crush", the term was defiantly not wide spread in the kpop industry, community or korea till 3rd gen with blackpink.
  19. welp, that's unfortunate news. kyungmin is 04 liner and have potential to do more in korea if he's uncertain about being in a Japanese focus group. wishing him the best! looking forward to information being released in june!!
  20. The basic mistakes HYBE is making right now is not really unexpected. Many Kpop companies make some of them as they grow. Hopefully for the longevity and well being of their artists in the future the company will learn and grow from this. They're not perfect but they're far from being the worst company out there in the industry tbh..
