Well, I don't know about the others who said they'd like a dark concept, but what I meant was something similar to GNLY, I had something like LUV by APink in mind, a concept along those lines. When I say dark I mean "sad" or "melancholic", not something sinister like Infinite's BTD or Shinee's Lucifer. They could still be sweet and loveable.

I am certainly gonna miss Apink until their concert end of this month. Hopefully they get their due rest and prepare well for their concert. So looking forward to watching fancams of their first concert. I will burn Acube down if they don't release DVDs of their first concert haha..

In relation to my story I messaged. I think the takeaway is that fans should have the right to both actively support and defend their bias/faves when they feel its necessary. The official Lovelyz thread is not a place to rant so much about random haters but there might be some occasions when fans have to stand up together. One recent example is the way k-sones went all out at trying to smear APink as plagiarizers. But then anti-sones and k-pandas countered back with examples of SNSD doing that kind of thing with their wardrobe, and it got the SNSD plagiarism controversy on get talked about. It gave APink some vindication and exposed all those sones as hypocrites. It's hard to predict when the next 'attack' to your bias group will come but its part of the 'game' in kpop.

 

 

I think they will just perform CJL, unless they have a surprise.

Okay, this took me by surprise a bit. Somebody on Naver asked who are the 3 most popular Lovelyz members and there were several responses.

 

1. Sujeong, Mijoo, Jiae

2. Jiae, Yein, Sujeong, Miju, Kei (this person chose 5)

3. Kei, Sujeong

4. Sujeong, Kei, Jiae

 

 

Answer 5. was the one that surprised me a bit:

 

Amongst males: Kei, Mijoo, Baby Soul 

Amongst females: Yein, Sujeong, Mijoo

 

 

Anyway, take with a grain of salt. There seems to be a variety of answers so that's a good sign. 

Jin wasn't mentioned in anybody's list though 

I noticed there were more inquiries about her lately so hopefully she gets more spotlight soon.

To be honest, before the IZE magazine interview, I didn't really pay much attention to Baby Soul. But you know why I change my mind? Because from her answers to the questions posted to her, she sounds like a future good leader. She mentioned that for girls, she would prefer talking directly heart to heart with them and for boys, she knows guys liked to be praised. Well that put a smile on my face (I am a guy by the way) for some reasons I cannot explain myself too haha..

I certainly will stay loyal to this group!! How can I betray Sujeong and Kei especially!! These two are such a cutie!!

I haven't watch their MV yet so I cannot comment on their talents and so on. It all depends on people's taste and perspective. Like myself I like cutesy concept which gradually mature to elegant mature sexy concept. That's the reason why SNSD, Apink and Lovelyz are my ultimate biases (I have 3 UBs haha). However some people just like sexy concept and simply hate cute concept. Let them be, each person has their opinion anyway. No point arguing with these people. Not unless they say really mean dishonest statements then we have to politely defend our biases.

Also dragging SNM here might cause a fanwar between us and their fans and opportunistic scheming haters who will jump the SNM bandwagon hating Lovelyz.

Q: Your birthday came not long after debut.

Ryu Sujeong: I don’t know much since I don’t go on the internet often, but there were more than 10 pages of congratulatory post on fancafe. I was really touched since (the fans) came together as one and sincerely congratulated me. I also saw fans captured my smiling face and posted it as ‘Ryuvely’. But when I smile I look like a clown and I didn’t lost my baby fat, I appear like a ‘sticky rice cake’ (빵떡) that’s why they call me ‘빵떡’ as my nickname (smile)

 

Q: You said you want to be “female idols who I want to be friends withâ€, what kind of girl friend do you want to be to the fans?

RSJ: I think Lovelyz has the charm of familiarity to the fans. It’s like “We’re Lovelyz!†kind of feeling. So whether with a girl friend or guy friend, I want to be a girl friend that’s always bright and makes you feel good when you’re with me. Especially to guy friends, I want to be a girl friend who overflows with aegyo*.

 

Q: Are you that kind of friend at school? You played jokes plenty of times on ‘Candy Jelly Love’ music video.

RSJ: Things like balancing a pencil on your philtrum or playing marbles, just like in the music video. When I was in middle school playing with marbles was at the peak of its popularity, but when I did it I lost because I wasn’t good at it.

 

Q: In the auditorium scene (of the music video) you were seen sleeping alone. Are you actually like that? (smile)

RSJ: No (smile) I actually never sleep during class. Even when I felt really tired during my training period, I don’t know why but I actually didn’t make a noise and really really paid attention in class.

 

Q: Such a model student (smile) You arrange ment very well on radio, have you ever been titled as class president?

RSJ: I want to be a class president, but I’m timid. I was afraid of falling off as the class president, I couldn’t do it. I was shy during pledge too.

 

Q: You have that kind of personality, but how did you think of becoming a singer?

RSJ: Originally I couldn’t sing in front of people. I came to know how is it like being an idol while watching Wonder Girls senior music video, I vaguely wanted to follow SNSD senior after I saw them. When I was in middle school or was it in 6th grade? I sang and danced around in my room alone and I came to participate in a talent show. When I felt comfortable enough singing in front of people after attending an academy, I made a progress by attending auditions and receiving tests. But after I went to an audition and got the call, they told me to practice my dancing a lot more. I never thought I couldn’t dance before I went to the audition (smile)

 

Q: Were you shocked?

RSJ: Yes (smile) At that time I never specifically learned how to dance. I just danced popping like other people did. But since I was in that position, I just turned on the song and danced the dance I had been practicing on. So afterwards when I went (to audition) again, while worrying what I should do, I prepared a cute concept with SNSD senior’s Oh!. But they told me to come again next time after improving my dancing skill (smile)

 

Q: Candy Jelly Love is a well coordinated group choreography. Isn’t it hard to dance to?

RSJ: There are a lot of (dance) numbers and the dance itself is burdensome, since I have difficulties in dancing it wasn’t easy for me. So I practice every day until dawn, even if it’s tiring after broadcast I close my eyes for a while in the car and practice again afterwards. Since the beginning we match (the moves) while counting in details among ourselves, if there’s a move that don’t (match well) we have to keep repeating it until we get it right. We put on the song for more than 5 times on repeat without rest, doing it from the beginning until the end. We practice like that until dawn, that’s why we get better on broadcast and finally we are able to capture the outline of coordinated group choreography. So we’re very thankful that the fans call us as “칼군무 idolâ€**.

 

Q: Since you’re living in a dorm, once you get back from practice you still have housework to do.

RSJ: I’m in charge of laundry in the dorm. I used to do it with other trainee friends, but now that I debuted I have to do about 10 people’s laundry by myself. Doing it alone is very hard. Now if we have to choose again and I’m chosen to do the laundry, I’ll stop the others and tell them to appoint another person to hang the laundry, I want to change it like this. Before, we finished practice at dawn. I couldn’t do any housework and went to sleep, the next day it was troublesome since there wasn’t any towel (to use). So there were times when we dried off our body with clothes (smile)

 

Q: You live the dorm life after living with your parents, isn’t it hard?

RSJ: My mom used to did it (wash clothes) for me, when I wash my uniform I start to think of her and I become sad. During those times, I rely more to the onnies and tell them (how I feel).

 

Q: When you have a hard time or when you have worries, who do you rely on?

RSJ: (When I have) worries I tell Kei onnie or Yein the most, when I’m having difficulties with my skill I consult Baby Soul onnie a lot. I originally don’t really have aegyo*, but since there are a lot of onnies and I want them to be happy, I learned aegyo* a lot.

 

Q: Now, an even younger person came and you became the sixth born. How is the life of a sixth born?

RSJ: Even if I’m young, there are times when I speak maturely and when I act like a baby the onnies find it awkward. When I act spoilt there are also times when they see it as if I’m whining. So when I act like the youngest, rather than that I don’t think I look like the sixth born.

 

Q: How do you stand at home?

RSJ: At home I’m the youngest out of the two sisters. My sister is three years older than me, but she treats me as a baby. So when I come home, I feel like the youngest. My dad does audio-related work and my mom is good at singing. My parents always listen to songs, so I encounter music a lot of times (at home).

 

Q: You said you like Byun Jinseob songs?

RSJ: My mom listens to Ahn Chihwan and Byun Jinseob senior songs a lot so I also listen to it, at that time I didn’t know what I was listening to but my mom said it would be good if I practice this kind of songs in the future. Time passed and I started to be interested in it so I followed her listening to it. ‘그대 내게 다시’ was the second song of Byun Jinseob senior that I listened to. Even if the song has a cheerful mood, it’s so sad. That’s why it touched my heart. I also felt sad while listening to â€˜ë‚´ì•ˆì˜ ê·¸ëŒ€â€™, so I thought I want to sing it with my own style. I really want to sing it together with Byun Jinseob senior himself.

 

Q: You sang ‘Friday’ together with Kei on a radio. Rather than a bubbly song, I think calm songs like ‘Friday’ suits you more.

RSJ: I sang to a lot of husky and heavy songs during my trainee days. Like Pixie Lott songs. But since I joined the company to be a part of girl group, I also practiced singing cheerful songs a lot. So my tone is really bright.

 

Q: Christmas is coming soon. Do you have any memorable Christmas that you remember?

RSJ: I went to Dongdaemun Doosan Tower for the first time in elementary school, but since there are a lot of people in Seoul and there were so many cars I was confined inside the tunnel. I finally arrived but there wasn’t any high building like Doosan Tower in my hometown Daejeon. So really only after that time! The tree was so big and it was really fascinating so my family and I took a picture together. My eyes popped out at that time.

 

Q: Will you also spend this year’s Christmas with the onnies?

RSJ: Last Christmas luckily I became Infinite senior back dancer on KBS Gayo Daechukjae. I think I have a schedule to attend this year. But before when I was preparing for debut, practicing for 3 hours was really hard. Now I can go up to 8 hours (smile) So after I finish schedule, I want to have fun spending (Chirstmas) with the onnies. First of all I really like the fact that I have schedule.

 

Q: Do you want to do something with the onnies?

RSJ: I want to eat beef (smile)

Q: You finally debuted after 5 years of training. How does it feel?

Baby Soul: The way I see it, I’m still awkward on stage. We performed with Infinite senior a few times, but still even as a leader when I do monitoring it feels like seeing someone else perform. I think I’m that kind of person who naturally feels calm immediately and I don’t get excited often.

 

Q: Whether it’s on stage or in a daily life setting like Lovelyz Diary, you seem quite. Do you conceal yourself a lot?

Baby Soul: Yes. I’m only like this when I’m around someone who is really close to me or I really feel uncomfortable with. Even if it will get better as time goes by, I don’t feel close yet with the camera (smile) I keep silent on camera because it’s awkward and I can’t hide it. Since I was raised in Gwangju Jeollado, my friends and family are also very brusque. It was a really good thing to be around my family and I wanted to brightly smile but… it somewhat passed. So it was really hard for me to come to Seoul as a trainee. I can’t express myself well and I feel ashamed to express how I feel.

 

Q: So there has never been a time when you explode with emotion?

Baby Soul: There has really never been one… (smile) Even in front of my family. My mom never knows what I’m thinking about. So I write in a diary a lot since I was little. I dream about being a singer since I was young too and I risked being a trainee even when my mom was against it. That’s how much I sincerely want to be a singer. I think I really like hearing people’s scream when I’m on stage. When I come up on stage, it seems that I change and gradually become more outgoing.

 

Q: How was it, preparing for debut and leading the younger ones?

Baby Soul: When I first enter the company, I was both the only female and the youngest. As the members are girls, I take care of them well delicately and emotionally. But I really am ‘not’ feminine (smile) I’ve never been to the cinema or café with my friends. I only run around and play at the playground or go to the karaoke 5 times a week. I was worried about how to take care of the younger ones but fortunately I got used to it after meeting one or two of them. It’s a relief that the members start up a conversation well with me and they don’t treat me with pressure.

 

Q: I see. Apparently (Lee)Mijoo’s hobby is “teasing Baby Soul�

Baby Soul: But the last member that I got close to is Mijoo. When she first came (to the company), she looked really feminine and coy. In a few weeks, “annyeonghaseyo†became only “annyeong†*. We shared the same room, since that night after talking with each other we shockingly became close. But when she teases me, she doesn’t know the line (smile) She only listen closely to what I’m saying. She will tease me even with the smallest mistake. The other members usually stop teasing me after a few times but with Mijoo, since it’s really fun for her, she does it even more. I asked her when she will stop; she told me she wants to keep doing it (smile)

 

Q: When other members are fed up, you don’t seem like the type of leader who will let it go. Do you give cool-headed advices a lot?

Baby Soul: Usually, when people ask you about something there is an answer that they want to hear right. I should say it but I have a very different approach. To help that person, I answer them honestly. Since girls are very sensitive, they might take it in many different ways. But there are times when they can’t focus. It feels different to practice with boys. Come to think of it rather than praising them, I say straightly to get a hold of themselves. There are a lot of things to accomplish and we have a long way to go, so even when they feel hurt I have to put it out first and have a soothed heart. (smile)

 

Q: Do you get hotheaded often?

Baby Soul: Rather than that… I always have a certain standard. Since I have work to do, I don’t like to lose and I don’t want to be rough. If we’re not a team, we can always have fun playing and practicing slowly. However as a team, it cannot be complete even when only one person is lacking.

 

Q: On the revealed practice video before debut, you always practice while wearing a pair of torn sport shoes. As it shown, you seem to have perseverance.

Baby Soul: Yes. I don’t want to be like other girl group seniors who have been debuted because of what Infinite senior have accomplished. There are gaps, so I don’t want to go out (of the company). Ah, and to be honest I feel so embarrassed about the shoes that I told the representative not to film it, but he/she did anyway. Because of that, it makes me look really sad in front of the fans. (smile) They asked me if I don’t have (other) shoes. My dance teacher also asked me “you have prettier shoes, why do you wear it?†But I want to say that I only practice well when I wear it. If I have something, I use it for a long time. Please don’t misunderstand (smile)

 

Q: You always practice and keep having schedules, but your first Christmas after debut is coming soon. What comes first in your mind about Christmas?

Baby Soul: The childlike innocence of Christmas itself. Things like carol, snow, sleigh, Rudolph, socks. It’s only been a month since our debut and I still can’t wrap my mind around it, but I want to turn off the lights and share honest stories with the members. I want to say that the younger ones do really well and make sure that in order to make us known we have to work harder and be prepared. But we have schedule on that day, so we will busy (smile)

 

Q: In which aspect do you think you work the hardest on?

Baby Soul: hmm… To show Lovelyz’s color, even with being shy, I close my eyes and work harder for it. The younger ones are all feminine but I really… don’t have anything on that aspect (smile) Ah there is this one thing. I don’t really like dolls, but I really like things with unique looks. It’s an alien, but if it looks cute I will take it all. In the future, I will be even more feminine and I want to show the “Lovelyz†side of me a lot more.
