In both of your defense, there's A LOT of negative prejudice in the book towards Slytherins and I think it stems from JKR personal prejudice (maybe, because I feel that the house quiz in Pottermore is also biased negatively towards Slytherin). Surprisingly, almost all HP readers that I know are able to see the good in Slytherin and able to view the four houses just as houses that grouped people with similar dominant personalities treats (no different than typology theories like DISC, Jung, Briggs Myers, etc.).
