I'm sorry if I'm raising dust here or something, but I want to give my two cents in Kris' hip hop concept/passion as someone with black/African ancestry and I don't think you'd want me to create a thread for that. (Nor to post it on the rant or bashing thread)

 

It may be hard to understand why cultural appropriation is a problem, but if you don't get it, be respectful just don't speak on it. Those braids would've stayed a minor problem if it wasn't for what it's for : a hip hop concept. Just like so many Korean idols start pretending to be rappers because it's the trend and it brings money without any care for the origin or cultural value of the art. Let's face it, any other time of the year, Kris doesn't wear that hairstyle, he's doing it, for a hip hop concept, for "credit" or "commercial purpose", when it's much more than that for black people. Honestly I'm not even mad, I have other biases who did that too and I saw it coming. I don't know if you remember, but he was at that award show or something and when asked for advice on rapping he said that it was "fast talking or slow-talking " or something similar.

 

Kris isn't the next Tupac, but it was seriously ignorant of him to say something like that. Rapping does mix some talking in it, but it's not just that... For the same reason I hope (and I'm being delusional) that he doesn't rap... Unless he improved...

Whatever, I'm talking too much, it's only a matter of time before a non-fan or hater points it out, I just hope nobody tries to fight saying that it wasn't problematic when they don't even know the meaning nor the value or the consequences of all these for black people.

 

For now I'll blame it on his ignorance and hope he learns since he likes it so much.

 

On another point, Kris is hot and I'm waiting for his hair to grow back, it's sad seeing him wear wigs and all.. I don't think he'll go back to such "extreme" hairstyle so soon.

I'm really glad you gave your opinion about this here, so thank you for taking the time to write it all out! All the points you've made resonates with what I've been feeling about the whole concept which I think a lot of people take too lightly. He's my bias, but that doesn't mean I agree with all the choices he makes... I just hope he truly did his research thoroughly

We should remember that most of the time they just like to get a rise out of his fans because it's amusing and entertaining to them.
