The Clockmaker's Daughter by Kate Morton is the first book that I've gotten from Book of the Month that I've disliked. I feel like I didn't so much read it as slog through it. Too many timelines, too many characters; the exciting bits were too few and far between. Several chapters and at least a hundred pages could have been cut. I'm guessing that the editor fell asleep while reading it, because I did. Twice.
