I'm a silent reader of this thread (and obviously pagecatching) but just had to reply to this post of yours.
Firstly, yes, queer can be used as slur, but so can the word gay.
Secondly the LGBTQ community as a whole was been trying to bring back the word as a identity, hence it being more commonly added to the acronym; there are people out there who do identify as queer, so I'm sorry, but I to agree with the person you quoted, you're just trying to be politically correct as much as you deny it and you're only doing the people who do identify as queer a disfavor by continually seeing this word as a slur.
