yes, I have a feeling he's the "not my pick but I don't mind him in" candidate this season...

 

and because of the current screentime that he was given, he's gathered tons of hardcore stans already(from chinese and korean side that I'm seeing) I think him and Yohan will be rather safe for now but still not locks. 

 

Someone mentioned earlier that the locks will happen by ep 5 and I agree that we should see the top 7-8 locks by then. 

If you see the last 3 1-pick polls from different Korean communities that were posted here, Song Hyeongjun has really strong 1-pick.

It was 1-pick polls but he was ranked #1-#3 in all of those 3 polls. He's def not a side pick based on these mock polls at least.

Just my opinion regarding Sunho.

 

Mnet will not let Sunho in even if he can. They will choose someone who can at least complete the 2.5 years exclusive part. They will most likely choose members who can fulfill the 5 years contract in full.

The whole point of Produce is to choose the top 11 / 12 trainees who can attract viewers to vote for them and only them and place them among the upper pool of trainees among the top 20 / 22 trainees during the final. What makes this particular trainee so 'special' in the eye of these voters? To the extent where the voters think "I must vote for this trainee so that he / she can be a part of the final group?" 

 

There must be a mix of at least 3 to 4 factors below + likable to the majority

1. Visual
2. Storyline / effective screentime / screentime with impact / memorable screentime
3. Talent / skills (need not be great but have to be at least passable for a member of a kpop group)
4. Personality
5. X-factor / star quality

In every season there is a token place for one not skilled pretty trainee to make it. This trainee usually is visual, not skilled but likable and memorable. 

 

Mnet to some extent do 'manipulate' voters through screentime allocation but if a trainee has solid one-pick voters they will make it. Case on point Jihoon in S2.

 

A great performance can put a trainee on the radar of voters but to make it as a final member, a lot more than that is needed. Momentum is crucial. Most if not all finalists are set by the end of episode 5 (first elimination). The latest a trainee can start to truly rise is position evaluation (by episode 7). Any later than that it will be almost impossible to top the one pick votes gathered by popular trainees from the beginning of the show.

 

Trainee(s) who rise in the 2nd half of the show will have higher chance to debut as the voting would have mostly stabilized. Also whoever is the popular second pick among eliminated trainees during the 3rd elimination (top 35 to 20 / 22) will also have much greater chance to make it because those votes will go to them. 

I heard Sunho has enlisted.

But I also think he needs a lot more than just pity story to actually make it. Whether it's a great performance or what, anything.

There are quite some of visual diversity in this season as well, but most of masculine looking ones are aggregated in lower ranks and less popular so you don't notice them much lol Like Han Gichan, Baek Jin, Kim Hyungmin, Byun Seongtae, Lee Hangyul, Mahiro, etc.

minhee being one of the less popular starship boys so far surprises me tbh... his visuals are top tier and he actually seems to have the bigger personality between the 5 despite his colder initial image

 

hyeongjun is the cutest thing ever and he is officially my back up 1 pick, his sass during hidden box was hilarious

 

im already worried for the starship boys during 1 pick. they might have a nuest type situation where all of them make the final round but because a large portion of their fanbases were shared, most of them drop out of the final group. i guess thats not too big of a problem if starship is debuting them tho, i just wanna see all of them debut somehow

There were some mock polls of 1 pick amongst of different Korean communities, and there are still 2 Starship boys who are always on top 11 even in 1 pick (Goo Jungmo and Song Hyeongjun). Hence I believe they don't really share the same fanbases.

Also can't really compare already debuted group fanbase (who obviously would vote the group members out of loyalty) and trainees who were only known 3 weeks ago. One of the example is how Moon Hyunbin is mostly forgotten by Kfans while other 4 of Starship trainees are popular, in top 11 if not around #11-15 of mock polls.

Yeah I don't see any single of YG and JYP trainees being included in debut lineup made by K-fans so far. Amongst K fans seems like Starship and Woollim trainees got the most hype to date.

Wonyoung being first was no surprise. Koreans loved her and she was first in a rank before, and knowing mnet they would not have let a Japanese trainee win 1st even if Sakura was made for center

No Kfans are suspecting and accusing Wonyoung center result is "rigged" unlike ifans. Literally only ifans who complained of Wonyoung being center lol

I just remember the day that "paper" came up happened to coincide with April mop. So I guess I would really be taking this with a whole grain of salt although there was a paper too.

I personally doubt the credibility of this rumor because iirc Produce never did opposite gender songs in 1st cover evaluation. And considering how some of the songs are so old, whereas PD48 used fairly more recent songs for 1st round.
