  1. To be honest. SM didn't give him that time off (which was only 1 short week), luhan's DOCTOR demanded that he have time off. SM wasn't going to give it to him, its only because the doctor stepped in and ordered it. And that last beijing concert, luhan wasn't originally going to go (he was still sick, even as you can see from photos at the concert) , but sm FORCED him to go. He was still happy  i guess to see the fans and everything, but SM still forced him to.

ermmmm most companies require a doctor's note for someone to take time off (well, as sick leave). While it's cruel, it doesn't come as a shock at all that SM would wait for doctors to tell them they needed  to let Luhan have a break.

In fact, where I was work, if people have a job that needs to be done, they come in regardless of being ill. I work crazy hours at multiple jobs and none of them could give a rat's ass if I'm feeling well, so long as I show up and do my job. I'm not really surprised that SM would force him to go, given that people paid to see him (and some perhaps paid solely to see him).

  2. I am not saying it specifically in regards to Luhan, as it is not confirmed (although Kris most definitely did this). It's just reading the comments on this forum, if you have any view that does not go along the lines of "MY OPPA IS RiTe, YOU GO bABE", you are immediately a delusional SM stan. Like bruh, I came into kpop being like "hell no am I ever getting into a SM group"(I read the New Yorker's article on SM before and I was like these are people you are talking about!). SM has it's faults, but that does not mean everyone who leaves SM is completely innocent either and you are like one of the few people who has kind of given a more objective view so I had to comment

Oh yeah Kris absolutely did this, totally agreed! I was more hurt with him because he'd already tried to leave once, failed, and then spent his time planning his escape again...and then jumped straight into acting. I mean, really, he'd been planning to go for a looooong while. But yeah, I don't believe it's wholly one side's fault :)

(edit: I still support Kris btw, he's one of my faves)

  3. Thank you.

I think what people fail to understand is that why people get annoyed when members leave is not because they are in love with SM, but its because they are part of a group, and one person's actions directly affects all the members. It's not the people that leave in situations that suffer the most, it's the people that are left behind.

If you didn't want to be in a boy band, if you didn't want to be an idol, if you didn't want to be singer than that's fine. But don't forget that other people in your group who might want this and when you use that for personal gain, people have every right to call you out on it. It's exploitation. Just like SM exploits these young kids dreams, your bias does the same when he uses it as a shortcut to fame.

Just like your biases have worked hard, so have the other members. Just like your biases have dreams, so do the other members. The conditions that your bias faced, is also the same conditions that other members face and are still facing. You know what the icing on the cake is? Your bias is out of there. They are out of that situation, they have opportunities, they have choices, they have alternatives. SM can't do jack to them in China.

Do you think the Korean members can up and leave without facing the consequences? No, instead they are left to deal with the mess left behind. The incessant questions, controversy, loss of fans, fear of their future, rearranging of choreography etc. These idol groups are heavily built on the notions of bonds, on selling an image to the public. You think every time that image takes a hit that their success as a group is not going to be affected?

I am not saying that Kris or Luhan should have to stay in EXO and suffer forever just for the others, it's just I think people forget that there are other people in the group sometimes. They get so caught up in you go Lulu, you fight for your rights they fail to look at the entire picture.

You are right about the negotiations, I am sure Luhan has a lot of leverage being one of the most popular members. If Luhan wanted to he could have probably taken a 6 month hiatus instead of just leaving and he didn't. I am not saying he should have, but to me that just says Luhan just mentally checked out of being an idol.

This is pretty much how I feel. It's a bit hard to explain that you are happy a member is going off to do what they want, but at the same time you're disappointed in them for it? I don't know, it sounds conflicting to me, and it is, but there you go.

But, as people have said, this isn't confirmed...!

  4. IA. I can see both sides here -- and I can also see where both sides have fallen down.

Like announcing a movie role at this early stage are a tactical error and sort of erodes Lu Han's position a teeny bit. I honestly think health issues were the #1 reason Lu Han left SM (not the only reason, but they were the priority) but you know people are going to jump all over it and say "See, the need for rest is just an excuse!" And I don't blame Lu Han in wanting an acting career -- he probably was ready to buy out his contract, no matter the cost, and leave quickly, cleanly and amicably, but SM likely played hardball so he decided too as well, with the lawsuit.

SM is at fault in the sense that it bit off way more than it could chew with China. It wanted a group that would just pull in the yuan and they thought they could just send them out there to promote from time to time and that would be enough. I don't think they had enough knowledge of or experience in the Chinese market (not like China-based agencies) and therefore when it came to outside offers for Chinaline, they just rejected most of them (apart from the odd Happy Camp and music shows) and hoped that EXO-M's popularity would keep on riding high. They prob should have taken the time to study the Chinese scene more and take into account Chinaline's individual interests, they might have been able to take a cut or make even more money.

I agree that SM probably lacks the knowledge to really make it in China without some failings, but I also think part of the reason they didn't accept many role offers is because they wanted to keep the Chinese members in their grasps - as in, if they all went off and starred in movies, commercials and variety shows as single units, there would be the fear that these members would see how popular they were getting in China and disappear. After all, SM can see plain as day how well Hangeng is doing now and how strong Chinese fanbases can be. The rumours I had heard said that Luhan was already very popular in China as it was (well, I assume amongst the fandom) and there were some ~grumblings~ going on within M. Thus, another reason they rejected offers was to curb the popularity differences until exo was more established in China and avoid any internal issues. Of course, this actually just looks like SM having no idea how to manage their Chinese idols, particularly when problems crop up.

  5. The thing I'm most curious about is on whose behalf are these fans getting annoyed on? EXO? None of the members have expressed any discontent in regards to LH's departure. So fans getting angry because oppar is angry isn't a valid reason in my opinion. Who else? SM? The company isn't a charity. It does not pick up Chinese kids with musical dreams out of pity and the kindness of their heart. It's an investment. Both sides are simply in a business relationship. Then that leaves who else? Themselves? If fans are truly getting annoyed because LH leaving would mean no precious OT11 and OTP ships then I have no words. Wanting your idol to suffer under a company they do not want to stay under, knowing fully well their health is horrible and they're overworked, is just plain selfish to me.

This isn't directed at you. Just my two cents~

I'm not angry because of anything exo has said (bc as you say, they haven't said anything bad), nor what I might think they're feeling (bc I don't know). I do wonder if Tao hasn't said anything because of the hate he got last time, but I can't really speculate on that. I'm not exactly angry about it anyway, moreso...a little disappointed? I'm saddened that M likely won't go on, or won't be the same, and also saddened to know that neither Kris nor Luhan could bear staying with Exo.

No one, or at least I hope no one, would want their idol to suffer badly. It's just that when they suddenly go straight into acting it comes across as them perhaps being more healthy than originally let on (though health issues are often exaggerated by fans) or that health wasn't the biggest reason for leaving. Again, it's their choice if they want to leave for whatever reason that may be, but I myself must admit I'm not 100% supportive if it turns out an idol has left their group in search of easier fame, having gathered the necessary exposure. But I'm the sort of person who likes joint efforts and puts the happiness of others before myself if needed, so I'm biased in that respect.

Of course it's not a charity. They invest in these idols hoping they will pay their debts back and much, much more, so of course it's a loss for SM. But I don't believe it's just SM, so I get a bit annoyed when I hear people blaming SM in particular.

  6. Excuses? You do know what he listed are legitimate reasons to file a contract nullification case, right? We'll see it proven when he wins the case and maybe people will eat their words. But who am I kidding? Hangeng and JYJ won their cases but people still believe SM is a good company that treats their artists well.

Is there supposed to be a time frame for when a person should get a job after they leave their previous one? Should he just mope at home and do nothing just to please people who don't want him to work for whatever reason?

He left the group and he has the right to move on with his life. Just like how the members of Exo are moving on with theirs.

I don't think people really believe SM is a wonderful company, because it's obviously not, and most people would rather idols leave and go be happy than loathe what they do. But still.

If this is true, it's the fact that it'll have been so quick after leaving SM that seems dodgy. Of course, if you're a Luhan fan or whatever, you'll probably support him. To people who are fans of the rest of Exo-M or Exo in general, it may simply look like Luhan, like Kris, has ditched Exo for a chance to become a big star in China. I personally really didn't want to see Luhan jumping right into a role just as Kris did, because it doesn't really look good for him. Exo-M stand no chance now, and there's a chance Exo will promote even less in China now as they don't have a proper M unit. This could potentially mean less exposure for Lay and Tao in their home grounds, which I'm sure is not what they want.

SM did give Luhan time off to get over his illness, though. Are people forgetting this? It's not impossible for these sorts of things to happen within SM, and negotiations can be made, believe it or not.

Anyway, of course he has the right to leave. He has the right to live his life how he wishes, but don't be surprised if people get annoyed at him for joining SM knowing (or presumably being somewhat aware) he would enter a boyband and it would be a joint effort and it would likely take a long while before he could enjoy the idol life. Admittedly people can never be prepared for what the idol life, especially for a foreigner in Korea, brings, so I do have sympathy for him there.
