Objectively, G-IDLE and AOA won the comeback round.
In my heart, which is not objective, Lovelyz won.
-
The Twilight stage completely disappointed me. They didn't do anything new with it other than one choreography piece, completely wasted their back-up dancers, didn't remix the song and just inter-cut the 'creepy' parts. I had heard their stage was amazing so maybe I was expecting too much, but I'd heard the same about G-IDLE and they still managed to blow me away with Put it Straight. Twilight was one of my favorite songs in 2018 so I was hoping to see them do something really cool with it but they just gave me something they'd already done before during their concerts with darker makeup than usual.
As a Lovelinus I was worried about them performing Cameo because it's a song they've performed a lot in the past, and my thought was that it didn't really win anyone over back then, that it probably wouldn't do it here, either, but they proved me wrong. As far as creativity goes this round, Lovelyz and G-IDLE won. They put on performances so far and beyond most of what we've seen on this show thus far, utilized every aspect of the format to deliver something they wouldn't have been able to do on a normal music show. I'm proud.
My ranking for the stages:
G-IDLE > Lovelyz > Mamamoo > OMG > Park Bom > AOAAs far as their final songs...
Lovelyz > AOA > Park Bom > OMG > G-IDLE > MamamooI'm probably biased but Moonlight is my favorite. I'm in love with the instrumental especially, it's got such a Lovelyz flavor to it, but somewhat more dark and mysterious in tone. It's the kind they tend to hide in their albums rather than using it as a title track, but even then it's a more mature feeling, probably the most mature sound they've had since Temptation. And the lyrics are not only relevant to their situation right now, being literally the most hated girl group on this show for pretty much no reason at all, but also are so triumphant in comparison to the heartbreaking lyrics they usually sing. The dual high notes reminded me of the highlight of Sixth Sense, too.
Sorry is probably my second favorite- it's so catchy and I feel like it showcases AOA's voices so well. Even when Choa was in the group I felt like their producers struggled to give them songs in their range. This one is and it's so good because of it.
Park Bom's song blew me away, and the sustained note at the end of the chorus of Guerrilla really, really stands out. That said, Park Bom is still Park Bom and thus pretty difficult to listen to, and aside from that note, Oh My Girl's song is pretty forgettable. That said, that note has gotten stuck in my head a lot the past few days.
The rap in LION is incredible, but other than that I feel like, especially if you put it next to their other title tracks, it's lacking a lot. I still like it, but it doesn't stand out among the stiff competition.
Destiny, I hated. Particularly the last section, but I was already done with it after one listen. The vocals were good, but whoever wrote that last part owes Mamamoo an apology.
My prediction for the finale, though:
Mamamoo > Oh My Girl > G-IDLE > Lovelyz > AOA > Park Bom
IDK, even though I've been unimpressed with Mamamoo the entire show, I feel like they're still going to take it home in the end. Personally, I'm rooting for G-IDLE. With the exception of their Fire stage (which I thought was middling), they've blown me away every single round. Honestly even though the Lovelinus in me would love if they could have a dark horse comeback and take one of the top spots, I'd rather they didn't just to spare them the hate comments.

Haven't there been many instances in Korea of the defamation law being abused just to shut people up? People have gone to jail for it, sometimes for something completely petty. I think it's too rigid in Korea, and while the US isn't perfect I'd much rather have freedom of speech.
That's why I think the truth should be a defense. For instance, someone reporting that an idol was taking drugs, and their company sues for it- if it's revealed that the report was the truth, that should mean the lawsuit would be thrown out. That isn't currently the case. Which is why I pointed out that it was imperfect- that the US's protections for free speech mean that if you aren't lying, you won't be in danger of losing a defamation suit, but that at least in Korea, things like malicious comments online can have suits filed against them. In the US, that just wouldn't happen.
If it's the truth and the comments are actually harassing people, it should be harassment, not defamation.

I think the bundles are a bit excessive, but 8 versions is pretty tame for SM. I don't see anything wrong with it because it's just how it's always been. Other groups have several different versions of the same album, too.

I am better today than I was yesterday. Yesterday, I spent the entire day in bed crying, to the point that my eyes were so swollen I couldn't open them. I tried sleeping it off, but I cried the entire time I was asleep, too. Then I got up, cried more, laid back down, was a little better that time, and then woke up and was kinda numb. Pretty much spent the better part of 14 hours crying.
For me, Sulli was always like... a little sister I wanted to watch over warmly. When she left f(x), so many people were being so mean and hating on her, but I just wanted her to be happier. It was clear she wasn't having any fun performing the way the other girls did. So I supported her no matter what. I'm not much for watching dramas, though, so I didn't get to really show my support until this year when she released her mini album. Which is still, by the way, album of the year. I always defended her when I could, (I'm banned from the hellsite Netizenbuzz and I've also got it blocked in my browser so I can't even go look even if I wanted to) and I was so happy whenever she got to do something new. A new photoshoot, a new CF, a new anything... I worried for her a lot. I saw people close to her going through terrible things, I saw her cry and get upset and frustrated with the things people were saying about her. I saw her go into the hospital with her wrist injury that I'm not sure what to think of, anymore. But I saw her be strong, too. I know a lot of people will disagree because of her untimely end, but Sulli was so strong. She endured so much, for so many years. The fact that her pain eventually outweighed the resources she had to deal with that pain does not negate that. She was so brave, so strong, and wonderful. She spoke for people who couldn't, even when she was the one who received hate for it. We could all stand to be more like Sulli.
Today I did a lot of distracting myself, but when I stopped to think about her, it felt like someone was slowly carving out my heart. I'm aimlessly angry about what happened to her. I want so desperately to blame something but the truth is that I can't. I can point out places where things could've changed, that might have made a difference, but there's no way to know if it would've helped. All I know is that it wouldn't have hurt for people to be nicer, for her company to be more supportive, for mental health to be destigmatized. I'm angry that these things didn't change sooner. I don't even know if they will.
I think that's what scares me most. We lost someone so precious and so strong, so loving and someone willing to ask for help when she needed it, and her call went unanswered. This already happened once before not even two years ago, and yet, we're here again. Will anything change this time? I don't know. I just don't know.

There's a great video on this by an actual lawyer Youtuber, Legal Eagle.
There's also a follow-up video where he interviews HBomberguy and gives him some advice on how to avoid defamation suits.
Essentially, you have to really be lying in order to have a defamation suit filed against you, which is what suing for malicious comments usually is. However, I'm sure USA's laws for harassment cover a lot of what Korea constitutes as defamation. The only issue is how bad it has to get before anyone will do anything. If someone's leaving you hate comments like the ones Knetz get sued over and you try to take them to the police, or something, they'd honestly probably laugh in your face. So while States' rules for defamation are, in my opinion, better, because the truth is actually an argument and you can't sue someone for reporting the truth even if it makes you look bad, Korea's stronger actions against people being malicious online is definitely better than anything the US would do for you.

If I had to choose...........
GWSN
Gugudan
Weki Meki
Laboum
CLC
I love Dreamcatcher but if we have to see them in one more elimination show I might cry.
-
My opinion is "no thanks."
I like the idea behind Queendom, but if they want to do it, make it:
1) Not an elimination show.
2) Upvote only.
3) Mnet has to pay for stages to create an even playing field.
Upvote only would mean that the groups that don't get voted up stay at the bottom, so you don't have to worry about there not being a ranking. The audience voting at the performance venue is also fine, since it's not the groups ranking each other. If nobody is in danger of getting eliminated, people won't worry about vote manipulation anymore, and the groups in last place can have a penalty placed on them or something that will make it even more interesting for them to battle their way back up. (Imagine "you have only one day to practice" or "you can't practice with a mirror so you have to tell each other how you're doing," real Cutthroat Kitchen kind of stuff.) And then of course if Mnet pays, you won't have to worry about groups from smaller companies competing against companies with more money, or companies who won't shell out the money for their idols. (Hi, Woollim, we're talking about you.) -

To be fair to Kei, they are there to work, not to rest; they only get like two days to prepare these performances, and her group keeps getting downvoted by everyone no matter how hard they try, so, she's probably feeling anxious and excited. I don't think it was necessarily the right time for Hwasa to try to get a nap in, even if I feel sorry for her because as much as I love Kei and how much aegyo she naturally has... she's.. a lot.

I didn't necro the thread, Akidoki was the one who did. Please look at the time stamp of each post. The last post was by baiichi on 20 March 2018 - 03:08 PM and the next post is by Akidoki on 21 April 2018 - 10:27 PM.
plus it's not "necro'ing" if there's only been a month between the last and recent postings, and this forum is so dead and slow-moving that this thread has probably been sitting on the first page for a while now.
I apologize for the mistake, but there was no need to neg me. That was awfully rude. :\

huh? A lot of the CCS fans I see squealing over Clear Card on tumblr are in their late 20s aka those who watched CCS when it aired in the late 90s-00s. Plus if you've read both the original and Clear Card manga, Syaoran returned to Tomoeda on the exact day that Sakura started her first day of middle school, and Clear Card starts off with Sakura's first day in middle school. They can't "save it" for a few more episodes because in the manga they reunite on her first day of middle school.
Original manga:

Clear Card:

and the first 4 episodes of Clear Card followed the manga almost to an exact T.
Jeez, you necro'd this thread hard.
Anyway- I read the manga. I know what happens. That said:
"Because in the manga..." is a really bad excuse to use for unexciting storytelling and dropping tension immediately.
Following the source material exactly doesn't always make for great adaptation. (See: Fullmetal Alchemist live action.) Pacing in manga works much different than in an animated format. Having him return so immediately just felt like "well now all of the pieces are in place, so we can get back to our lazy monster-of-the-week format!"

I know work is important and comes first and your RL situation has taken up a lot of your time, but you literally never talk to me anymore, not even just to say "hi, how are you?" and whenever you do, you make it sound like it's a chore to check in on me. Just drop me, if that's the case. I've survived worse.

I can tell you assume I'm stupid.

i'm probably dying but since you're so self-absorbed you probably won't even notice i'm gone

I loved Cardcaptor Sakura as a kid; it is my favorite CLAMP work (although I read many others), so I was excited for the new clear cards series, but I was I realized it was only nostalgia making me feel like that. I would have prefered that the characters aged at least a few years, because the flowery 10 year old shit is now way too much for me, lol.
This. I watched the first couple episodes and felt the same way- they also wasted a really great emotional story beat with having Syaoran come back immediately. I know there's an in-universe two year gap, but for the viewer, it just... happens. They really could've saved that for a few episodes in and given it some more impact, but they were trying too hard to get into the monster of the week formula that just doesn't work for older audiences, who are the ones primarily watching. There's a reason why Sailor Moon Crystal rushed through the story beats that were already in the original anime- they wanted to get to the meatier story, instead of dwelling too in the monster-of-the-week type story.
CCS was never my absolute favorite and I have some really bad memories attached to it because of some former friends I used to have, but I really was expecting and hoping for more from it. I adore magical girls, and I really liked Crystal('s third season, dear God that animation in the first two season was soooo bad), so I was hoping I'd like Clear Cards, but... it's not for me. :(

I used to love CLAMP. It's been so long since I read anything of theirs, though.

People asking "well then why did you..." must've never made a mistake or done something they regretted in their lives, huh.
