    A joyous announcement~

    Hello everyone, 

     

    It's the holiday season! We are closing in the end of '17, and what a year it has been. I hope you guys are spending quality times with your family and loved ones, as we are closing the year on a good note, and looking to start the new year afresh!

     

    For that, I'd also like to make my last announcement of the year, as we are heading towards the 5th year of OH in 2018. There will be some key personnel changes, so look forward to all the changes!

    First off, I'd like to say farewell to Zenny, as she has decided to step down from her current position as a Moderator. I'm really thankful for everything she has done for OH during the time she has been with us. Will really miss your sass, but of course, real life is more important and I wish you the best on all your future endeavours.

     

    But that's it for the sad news, as the rest are good news! smile.png Next off, I want to congratulate Twinky, as she has taken a new step and become our newest Senior Moderator! She has always been reliable, and I'm fully confident she will be able to take up the role without any issue!

    Another addition, but not the moderating team. Rinoa, our fellow moderator has decided to step up her game and become a part of the techie gang. She has great technical expertise and experience of running forums before, and the dedication of a moderator, so we can be sure she will be ready to help anyone if you guys run into troubles. Rinoa will also double-duty as a moderator as well! Congratulations!

    For the last, but also the most important, as it will involve myself :D Our current seniod mods (Darkchao, Pineapple and Bekki) will take a step up and become the Admin team, as they are getting in charge of everything on the forum! As I'm getting busier with my real life work recently, I will not be able to tackle forum requests as quickly as I used to be able to do. I'm really glad for this, and with the new admin team, we can have quicker and faster decisions with respect to issues in the forum! (I will take a step back, so I can be lazy behind the scenes hehe).

     

    Let's us welcome all new the personnel changes! They are all very capable people, and I'm really glad to see the forum will be maintained by good hands smile.png

     

    All in all, I also want to extend a wish to everyone during the holiday season. I wish you and your loved ones a lovely and enjoyable holiday, and stay ready for a better 2018 ahead!

    On Online identity, and the Internet

    Hi everyone,

     

    This post would serve as a PSA for what happened a couple of days ago, and a discussion on how we can make things better. I know many of you may have feel frustrated and/or unsafe on OH in the recent time, and I hope we can come together for ideas, on how we can together get over this.

     

    First thing first, I want to talk about privacy. As an old-school internet user, I do enjoy the old days of the internet, when everyone only need an email to sign up for everything; there weren't Facebook/Twitter sign in, that would give the sites a glimpse onto your real life identity, to profile you, bombard you with flyers and brochures, to get you to consume and be engaged. OH always has the option to login with your social media accounts, but I am not keen on that. I like my anonymity, and I hope you enjoy the privacy too. The only thing that we know about you, is your display name, and your email address. As of now, I have seen no sign of any data breach from OH itself. I will continue to look, and if you guys do see any problems of leaking personal information please let me know!

     

    Which comes to my second point, on the protection of your personal information. OH doesn't request for any of your personal information, but it doesn't restrict you to share your personal information with other people. Please please please keep a vigilant mind before you want to share anything that might lead your personal information online. One thing scary about the internet, is that it keeps everything, and remember everything. Be very careful of what you share on the internet, because once it's up there, it WILL be stored somewhere. Don't do things you might regret in the future. Be careful on what you share with, who you share with. Be careful of what you click on, as there are dangerous people online who look to do bad things, and you do not want to be a victim. This might sound like a rant from me, but remember to take precaution for whatever you do.

     

    The last thing I would like to talk, is the practice of doxing. One simple way is to explain it, is the divulgence of the personal info online, without the consent of the person in question. It is considered cyberstalking, which will have real life consequences, and the severity will be on the information being revealed. This is illegal in practice, and I'll be looking into if I can raise up legal consequences on this. I do not think it's in anyway acceptable to do this on any other person. Think about it, and whatever `expose` thing that anyone is looking to do; It's not something funny or cool that you do to impress and gossip with your friends, and those would be things that give you criminal records in the future. Not worth it, IMO.

     

    There may have been complaints to me or other staff, on how we were not in time to react to the situation, and how we deal with the situation in general. Please let me know on how we can handle things better in the future(even though, I sincerely wish nothing like this would ever happen in the future). I know we might be a bit lacking in terms of manpower right now, and we are trying to figure that out.

     

    This sounds a bit ranty from me, though I hope you guys get the message that I'm trying to bring across. Let me know on any suggestions or ideas you have that we can work on to make it better!

    A few words on the temporary closedown

    So it has been a day since I temporarily closed down the forum.

     

    It has been disheartening to see all sorts of mess in the last few days, name-calling, brigading, witch hunting... all sorts of things. All this nonsense about dramas, expose blog, receipts etc.

     

    I do not want to see OH become like this. It's supposed to be an entertainment forum, for people with similar interests to gather and spazz over our beloved idols, music, performances, shows etc. It's not supposed to be a place to breed hatred, for spreading hate speech or cyberbullying. The staff tried to help with the situation, and what they got back were complaints, nasty words and unnecessary stress.

     

    I took it down for a day, to give the forum and the staff a break from this toxicity. Sometimes it's just a bit too much.

     

    In the meantime, we would be looking to add more stringent rules for all this petty hate. A more stringent rule to stop people from making new post in the 411 section with new account. We will also actively block the spread of those expose blog.

     

     

    The sharing, linking, or directly/indirectly discussing any material found outside OH that contributes to hate speech or outside drama, towards the users of OH (or ''exposing'' like some like to call it) will not be tolerated. Any users found to create, run, or own any websites/blogs with the intent of degrading and bashing the community of OH will be permanently IP banned from OH with no chance for appeal.

     
    1st offense: No points, Immediate suspension. The length will be determined by the severity of the content, and as per the moderators judgement.
     
    2nd offense: Immediate ban.

     

     

    We do not have much control over what can be spread over other platforms. If you do see these kind of sites getting set up, do bring it up to our attention, and if possible, report them so they will get closed down. Those are just plain cyberbullying, which should not be tolerated and spread. Do your part to make this world a better place.

     

    Also, please heed my man Darkchao's word. Be mindful of what you share over the internet. It WILL be scrapped, captured and stored somewhere definitely. Be vigilant, not a vigilante.

    Updates regarding new accounts!

    Hiya,

     

    I have been hearing from many people, from users, from staffs, on the problem regarding trolling with multiple accounts. Basically, trolls can create multiple accounts in quick succession, spamming the forum with unnecessary threads, and/or going on a mass negging spree on other people. 

     

    While the moderating team would come and do the cleanup, sometimes the damages had already been done. Things like mass-negging etc can be very frustrating for both the users and the mods to deal with. The damage couldn't be reversed, and the trolls can always create a new account to do the same thing again until they got caught.

     

    With this, I'm looking to introduce a new big change to the forum:

    New accounts created will only be able to upvote, and you will not be able to create a thread and downvote until you reach 50 posts

    (with the exception of the 411 section, you can make a thread there)

     

    This will be a big change for the forum, and we really hope this will be able to prevent lots of troubles from happening. The limit of 50 posts may seem a bit high, and we will see how everything goes and make necessary adjustments!

     

    If you already have 50 posts, and you cannot make a thread/downvote, please just make a post, and you should regain the ability to do so. (You should see your Member group change from New Member to Member, and everything should work as per normal).

    Amnesty Event!

    OneHallyu's 4th Anniversary!

    Hello everyone!

     

    Today, 3rd of May, OneHallyu celebrates its 4th birthday! Happy birthday to us! ohla.png ohbi.png  

     

    Honestly, when I joined along with all the Hallyu8 refugees ages ago, I would have never expected for OH to stay and prosper for so long. It's the 4th year man, we are older than half of all those idol groups out there haha.fyeahplz.png

     

    If I have to say, the last 4 years were nothing but memorable to me. This community has brought me all sorts of things, from joy to headache, from mind-blowing to WTF moments, I have experienced them all. 

     

    To be honest, this year hasn't been a great year for OH, with some ridiculously long downtimes, that may have casted doubts over some people. Also, I feel really bad for missing out the Christmas season with all our plan of funs of givings. But that's a thing of the past, and we can put it back behind us just as some distant memory.

     

    Let's stay together for the next year, and break the 5-year curse together. ahmagahplz.png ahmagahplz.png

    Event Team update: Welcome the new Coordinator!

    Hello everyone, I have a poem for all of you.

     

    Sadness. What I felt when people had to go.

    Nothingness. The only thing was left, just a big, huge hole

    Seriously, why does parting have to be hard?

    Do you think, this is just a game of card?

    Just a thing, I want you to know

    May the best will be with you, wherever you go

     

    And yes, my sappy poem is for sir Ahjumma Laugh, our Event Team Coordinator. From today, he is going to step down from his position as the coordi. As real life commitments take priority, he will not be able to dedicate his time and effort for OH anymore, and so even if I'm really saddened by this, there's nothing I could do but letting him go warstarplz.png  He has been an amazing man, meticulous and thorough with his works, and I really enjoyed working with him. His presence will definitely be missed, but for now, let me wish for all the best in his future endeavours, and express my gratitude for all the things he has done. Thanks Ahjumma Laugh!

     

    And of course, with this, another person will have to step up and take up the helm. Who will continue to lead the Event Team, and bring more fun and entertaining events for the OH community???

     

    If you checked the first letters in my horrible poem above, you may read the sign, and yes, It will be snsdjm that will take up the post!! Congratulations!

    As a long-time Event team member, also an enthusiastic participants in many games and events, I bet jm would take up the new task with ease, and look forward for all the fun things that he and the team members are going to present to you all!

    Press Team updates: A farewell and a new start!

    Hello everyone! Today I'm back with some news regarding our Press Team! :dave:
     
    Firslty, it's a farewell. Today I want to announce that our Press Coordinator Holke is going to step down on her position. Holke has been amazing to work with, she's always full of ideas and passions, and she has been doing some great work in the growth of the Press Team and the blog in the last years! Unfortunately, it seems that real life gonna take her away from us, and I can only weep and wish all the best things for her future endeavours. Thanks for everything, Holke! :cry:
     
    With that, Oh Press Team is coming back with a vengeance, and there are a lot of exciting things that we are going to deliver in the future. Before any of you trying to be funny with "OH has a blog???", yes, we do, and shame on you for not checking them out. We will try to bring more interesting articles and original content for you, so please check them out! With that, I'm also introducing a new section where the Press Team can showcase their work, please pass by and give them support!  :ohbi:  :ohla:

    Of course, the team would need a new leader. I'm glad to introduce Rinne, who will be stepping up as the new supreme leader of the OhPression. Rinne is definitely not a LookieLookie in the Press Team, and she has been nothing but impressive for all her works so far. Please congratulate Rinne on her new post, and I hope she will lead the Press Team on the flower road from now on! :dave:
