I think gay/bicurious idols actually get away with it because of this idea (the overestimation in the international point of view) and from the fact that idols are expected to do a lot of skinship with each other for show (as they belong to the Entertainment business, in the Korean perspective). The Entertainment world isn't the real world, at least to me it's not. Same goes when the male idols easily strip in concerts and such. That's not usual for the average Korean male but definitely okay for idols because it's part of their job and the Entertainment world.

When I first watched BTS War of hormone MV (a long time ago when I didn't know anything about BTS), I thought they all looked like straight guys. Now that I observed them in interviews and such, I'm not certain anymore (no one cares but the ones who ping on my gaydar are V and JK). I realize now that it's mostly because back then, I only saw an MV where all the moves are very well studied and executed, and well, stereotypically heteronormative, as in, we see all the moves and gestures idols learn and do because they appear 'manly'. So in addition to what has been said about mannerism (as in, it doesn't necessarily indicates for sure one's sexuality, far from it), I'd like to add the fact that idols crave to look cool and manly (and often do everything in their power to look so) at all times is very often overlooked by people who say that manly men can't be gay. South Koreans praise manly looking/acting men. The SK society expects them to act manly. Also, being labelled as gay is a big no-no, so it's no wonder that gay idols themselves would try to appear as manly as possible. Not saying that every gay idol would act like that on purpose but... very certainly some do. Imho, the best example is DBSK Yunho. Praised for being super manly, Well, the guy has always been on my gaydar. Pings like crazy. Nobody will ever convince me the guy is straight just because he's 'manly'. Not saying he's faking it, but he definitely tries to appear manly so much that it looks even more suspicious to me.

I trust their managers to not be this dumb. They didn't let them go to the AMA afterparty but they'd let them go around freely in bars with bfs where anyone can see them grope each other (and out them)? Seems unlikely.

I don't get the 'he is so manly' either. But there's also people who say that Yunho/Heechul/Jaejoong/<insertobviousgay> is 'so manly' too, so... First, I swear some people forget that gays are men too, and some are gay without displaying even any 'gay' mannerism (I sometimes wonder if they expect all gays to wear a tutu or something ). And I agree with your RS theory (their living situation as you mentioned is suspicious), and I also agree with the fact that having a gf doesn't make a person straight, or even bi, especially in Korea where many gays in the closet will do anything to appear straight for their family and friends. Haha, Eric always pinged me a lot, even more than HS (who can look act very boyishly when he wants - but isn't that a facade sometimes I wonder, because he looks more like a princess than a prince to me haha). You made two great ricsyung posts. I already knew all of this but I marvel each time at the sheer amount of evidence there is. It's kinda weird that there's not more (any really?) public suspicion about them, but I guess it's mostly because they both (well, mostly Eric to be fair) having a dating history (only one of HS' gf has been confirmed, sort of, but Eric had a couple of official gfs and said himself he had a lot 'too many' even...), so nobody really believes they could be a couple, or even gay (well, according to most Koreans, there are no gays in Korea anyway....). Still, they both ping my gaydar, especially Eric (weirdly), and I can't help but wonder if they're really platonic friends nowadays. My theory is that they could be gays/bisexuals in the closet, and possibly together (for all the mentioned evidence). Anyway, what is sure is that they've been really close friends to this day.
