He's Chosunjok, I believe, born in Jillin. I think that just means "Chinese-born Koreans" (sorry if I'm wrong) but it's an ethnic minority. Other than the Jillin part, I'm not sure if the rest has been confirmed.

It was a bit before that, but I can't speak korean so I can't give you the why, precisely. I was following him since the intro video and following his ig, and he started posting pics everyday even though it's forbidden... I thought for sure he would leave p101 at the time, he didn't go to the baseball performance either, but then he showed up on the press conference and got lots of nice pictures of him! He was standing next to Haknyeon and I think that helped him get more exposure, lol. After that, lots of fan posts on pann and instiz (some that trended, I believe?) and people realized his beauty and potential little by little He was also the one who formed the BIL Team Men, God bless Kim Yongguk.

I agree. I wouldn't say yet that they are gonna get that close to top 11, though, at least not until the vocals/dance/rap evaluation if they do well and manage to translate that into even more hype. I do think Mnet understands Guanlin's popularity, or was at least riding on the chance that it would become like this. He got a lot of screentime (even the Kahi situation wasn't evil edited, just shown in a way that gathered him more pity than hate). It's very unlikely for him to fall off top 11 at this point, in my opinion. What do you (and everyone else here) think the top 11 is gonna look like after the reset? So the one in ep. 6.

And it started before EP.4 so even without the 3k votes I think it was enough for him to either not fall too much or rise a bit. It's just so completely unexpected, I agree. Although it has more to do with him being ranked F at the second evaluation than netizens not falling for his visuals, in my opinion. I think a lot of people just took it as him giving up, even though he redeemed himself and showed a great Replay stage (that unfortunately didn't go viral, so it's all about luck). If I remember correctly, the new voting system (only 1 vote) started at episode 9 so there was only 1 week of it until the elimination (from 35 to 22).
