“[iNFO] 150519 Shindong & Sungmin are both assigned to the military band! Shindong at the 55th division, Sungmin at the 17th! †— cr:Naver v:13elieveSG Jaejoong and Shindong are in the same division, hence the recent photos of them together. They'll all have practices and band activities on top of regular solider duties. It'll be interesting to see what instruments they play/what their duties are. ...also, I'm having a really hard time wrapping my brain around the fact that 7jibsus was released eight months ago. It's still so sparkly and perfect that it feels new. (No, I'm totally not alone in the office today and jamming to it, why do you ask?)

[uPDATE] Translation of what Min said at the start of the video: “To the wife that I love, now, i can openly and boldly call you my wife. It was hard when I was alone, but with you by my side, I gain strength and smile so I’m very thankful. This moment, this feelings, the happy feelings from today, I’ll work hard for it to continue. I love you, yeoboâ€

Despite Motorcycle not exactly being a favorite track, having it served up on shuffle by Spotify in the middle of an absolutely shitty day is amazing.

Sungmin Placed In 17th Division Military Band -- Wiki K-Pop Currently serving the military army, ‘Super Junior’s’ Sungmin has been placed in the military band. Sungmin had a completion ceremony at 17th division recruitment training center located in Bucheon, Gyeonggido on May 1 at 11am. He represented the entire training soldiers of his division after completing five weeks of basic training. When he enlisted the army at the end of March, he recited the declaration and promised to serve the army as an exemplary solider. Wiki K-pop’s subscriber reported a photo of Sungmin. In the photo, he seems weary and tired due to the intensive training. His tanned face allow us to assume the level of harsh training. What grabs our attention is the fact that he has been placed in the 17th Division Troop military band. Although his specialty has not been revealed yet, it looks like he will show off his musical talents through military events. Meanwhile, Sungmin enlisted in a recruit training battalion troop no.17 located in Incheon on March 31. He is expected to be discharged on December 30, 2016. Although it rained much in the morning, the entrance of the troop was crowded with fans and media press who came to say farewell. ...this is both weird and awesome at the same time. I think of him primarily playing guitar and piano, and while I wouldn't put it past him to secretly be perfect at trumpet or something, I've never seen him linked with a brass instrument. Maybe his SS6 solo was foreshadowing?

Q: "I've seen a male idol prettier than myself." Heechul: Yes. Firstly, there's Super Junior's Sungmin! Host: So you were thinking of Sungmin~ I was thinking of Kyuhyun... Heechul: Eh? Do you really know the names of all our members? You're not getting confused are you? Host: Of course~ You don't think so? Am I the only one who thinks so? Heechul: Sungmin and JYJ's Kim Jaejoong. If I were to say Jaejoong has a somewhat haughty feminine look, resembling a fierce cat; then Sungmin's would be a feminine look resembling a fox. A really cute one. A really cute fox he'd like to make out with. It's HeeMin time!

I think most of us were actually relieved, haha. I think he looks the same, or close enough to it. (He's also in the middle of talking in the pic you posted, which is never really a good time to take a picture of anybody, lol.) Hopefully he stops with the filters. But when has the Selca King ever practiced moderation with SNS?

So, I've been thinking about what to do to keep this thread active now that our dearly beloved Ming has enlisted without resorting to endless spam. So I've decided to so purposeful spam! (Yes, there is a difference. Scheduled spam is classy spam~) And so, today begins.... *drumroll please* Countdown Throwback Thursdays! The first TBT topic is Ming OTPs. That's right, almost three months of guaranteed shippy goodness. I think you can tell who is up first~

Guys--just a gentle reminder that negging isn't allowed in this thread. I know controversies aren't a fun topic, and that we won't always see eye to eye, but I'd rather everyone feel free to weigh in than not. Different perspectives are important. Well, the i-fan perspective is basically: Everything is magnified and distorted. I agree about the unfair treatment, but I think it's inevitable. Kangin has too much legit ammo. It's not like apologizing did any good for Shindong or Leeteuk, either.
-
Should Kangin have minded his words better? Yes. He is ultimately responsible for what comes out his mouth, concept or no concept. Was it a joke, especially in the sense of Korean variety? Yes. Was it a good joke? No. Are some people overreacting and going for blood over a scripted program? Yes. The comments on the NB articles are low because in the context of the show--two opposing characters, racier concept, etc.--it's what the producers seem to be going for. I mean, was this really worse than what Radio Star dishes out on a weekly basis? This wasn't a case of a hot mic catching someone's true colors in action, or a concerned citizen reporting private abuse. This happened on camera, in front of directors, PDs, crew, coordis, managers, etc. It may have been the second or third take of that exchange. This was edited and approved by multiple people. SM could have absolutely stopped the offensive phrases from airing, and Kangin's manager could have stepped in if they felt Kangin was being pushed too far, or had done something off-color. The producers could have even been aiming for a bit of controversy or to push the adult image of the show or generate some buzz. Guys don't talk to each other in a guy-on-guy setting with a filter on. They swear. I'm not saying that Kangin should have sworn on camera at all, especially not at N, but let's be honest--we all knew this show's concept was trouble waiting to happen. You don't have to like every member of Super Junior. I mean, we can't even collectively agree how many members there actually are in the group. But one of them making a mistake--because *le gasp* they're human--doesn't give people carte blance to shit all over the group, especially not if they're only going to be infinitely more hateful and offensive than the original comment, and with none of the original cheap laughs intent. And while Kangin may be many things, and is certainly lacking in some areas, he doesn't have a reputation for being rude, especially not to younger artists. Even if Kangin were to apologize, it wouldn't matter. He's going to be treated the same as Shindong and Leeteuk by the i-community from here on out. (Problematic! Trash group! He looked at my bias wrong! SJ are a bunch of dicks! *insert rehash of 5+ year old hyperbole* I don't know how anyone can stan them, ugh! Now let me go stan my equally "problematic" faves!) Maybe it's because I'm a jaded old lady, but I'm more amused by the lack of K-ELF reaction than anything. Kangin has had two "problematic" instances in the past month, both of which have negatively impacted SJ's reputation, and where's the #KanginOut Twitter campaign? Apparently not making your reserve training and swearing at hoobaes (jn any context) isn't as grave an offense as legally getting laid. Only in K-pop! And for what it's worth, I'm proud of how y'all have responded to this recent influx of screw-ups and loaded articles. People can claim that ELF are in "oppa didn't mean it" mode, but I haven't seen overt shielding or the like. Nothing is black and white, especially not when we're relying solely on translations for our information, and the original posts aren't always objective. Waiting for context and accurate translations before making judgments is the right thing to do, and providing said context when necessary is needed. It might not tie into the prevailing slay/problematic/dick measuring/when will your faves/troll attitude around here, but it's the right thing to do.

The limit sort of seems to be 30th birthday (Korean age) plus 2 to 3ish months. Sungmin, Jaejoong, and Choi Jinhyk were born in January and February of 86, and all three enlisted in March of this year. Shindong turned 30 in September last year, and was supposed to enlist in November. If you follow that pattern, Eunhyuk will be enlisting before the summer is over, Yoochun probably by the fall, with Donghae and Junsu toward the end of the year. Yunho was born in February, so he will probably go very soon. The sooner they're in, the sooner they're out. ^^This. The 5th is a national holiday, so there has been some talk that he'll be out a little earlier, just not officially. But not today/tomorrow, Heenim. *shakes head*

OMG. What is happening at :10? Why was that necessary? Hyuk was just doing his own thing. Kangin looks okay, and being very careful not to move his hands or look at the wrong place. The other two guys look like they're dying. Skimmed the rest of the vid, but yeah, that seems about right for Maxim.

Super Junior's Kangin & Eunhyuk Are the First Male Models to Grace Maxim Cover -- Soompi Super Junior’s Kangin and Eunhyuk are creating a stir with their appearance on the cover of Maxim’s May edition. The first male models to appear on the cover the the male lifestyle magazine, Kangin and Eunhyuk each show previously unseen sides of themselves while displaying exceptional and captivating qualities in their photos. The R-rated images, which feature a “real bachelor party†concept, show the two bandmates posing with scantily clad Maxim models Park Moo Bi and Yoon Chae Won. When asked if they worry about the rated content in this fashion spread since they are idols, Kangin and Eunhyuk responded with “Just as you follow Roman law when you go to Rome, shouldn’t we follow the laws of Maxim in this case?†Meanwhile, the pair’s appearance on the magazine’s cover has also led to increased demand of this edition, a Maxim representative claimed. “Our customers are usually 85 percent male, we are a magazine dominated by male subscribers, but the following publication had unprecedented orders from female customers that it may lead to an early shortage of copies.â€

I feel like we should be taking bets as to how long it will take for him to sing somewhere. The boy has to be close to exploding. I hope SM has him booked for Masked Singer or Immortal Song, something where he can start working through two years of repressed ad-libs.

Donghae wasn't even on my list of suspects. It just seemed so like something EHB Yesung would do. I mean... Oh, how I've missed this awkward turtle.
