Hello, I´m a silent lurker but just wanted to say a few words.

 

I´ve actually seen so many "fans" shit on Hongseok because of the mistranslation that he "doesn´t like hip hop" and also that he has attitude problems. But I don´t even understand how it´s possible to judge a persons character just based on 10 minutes airing time, with that kind of footage that the PDs handpick to stir drama and viewer rating (hello SMTM evil editing anyone, Mnet?). Also even if he didn´t seem the nicest, I don´t think the other members was any kind in welcoming him either (no surprise since the timing he joined was really bad, and he was added so late hence didn´t have the same time to bond/work with the team like Jin and Chanwoo).

 

But I just wanted to say that people who doubt Seok and downplay him because he´s not as polished and well trained as the other members, will probably eat their own words in a few months because his voice is really beautiful and I see talent and potential in him. And it´s not too late for him to pick up with 6 months training  prior to debut, as long as he has talent for it (singing/voice). I´m saying that since Daehyun from B.A.P was added late in the group and only had 6 months training, prior to debut but look at him as a vocalist now and how he´s carrying the group and basically killing, and drawing in fangirls everywhere. 

 

So I bet if Seok gets the right training, he´ll be a really important vocalist for Ikon (that is, if he makes it)  So that´s just my input, and I´ll go back to lurker mode :p

His voice sounds good to me, even with just that short version of Bruno Mars..at this point, I don't know what kind of final lineup I'm rooting for anymore...but really hope Yang Jr. will slay a bit more (my poor expectations...TT___TT)

I know Taehyun's tone is not for everybody I understand that (sometimes I wish he would get rid of his nasality) but he is not a weak vocalist like jinwoo/donghyuk/Jinhwan. Comparing him with weak vocalists it's unfair. Have you listened to Confession and his previous ballads? when he sings in his range and doesn't try to hit high notes he is not as bad as people make it to be here.

I don't want to make a hasty judgment based on a few seconds of one song, but Jinhyung seems to be the worst out of all of them. Dude sounded like he was talking his parts. Tuneless, almost like he has no concept of what good singing sounds like. I was shocked. And he's supposed to be the one that had formal training?

 

Chanwoo sounds how Yunhyung probably sounded before he had any training.  He can't sing. As a positive, he has the likability factor going for him.

 

Donghyuk is just horrendous. All that autotune and filters on "Wait For Me" made me forget how terrible he actually is. His tone is even worse than Jinhwan's, just horrid to have to hear.

 

YG really did Junhoe dirty. How could he lump him in with those scrubs after witnessing those performances? I wouldn't even be able to do it without feeling like a dickhead afterwards. Let alone release a statement implying that he's not on Jinhwan's level in terms of skill. There's a fucking ocean between Junhoe and the rest. Anyone can see that. Where is YG's head at?

 

If Hongseok can't sing, then this show is going to be so painful and frustrating to watch.

the previews were ehh...and the plot sounds okay..but I'm hearing mixed reviews about the first ep..(haven't watched it yet, waiting for eng subs)..I don't really like the dead unni--thus falling for little sis thing nor large age gaps (was never rooting for the older bro in Reply 1997)

Gotta admit that I was rooting for OT6+Yang Jr., but after catching up on the amazing and intriguing insights the past few days, my mind has changed... @___@ I wasn't a hardcore OT6 (was more of a Team A, Bobby & BI stan during WIN), but I really did admire TB's teamwork (was unarguably better than TA during WIN)....

I actually never really minded Jinhwan's voice that much, but now that people pointed it out...it is very forgettable and not distinctive. Tbh, I wasn't that impressed with TB's WIN solo studio YT releases (Jinhwan, Bobby, BI)...sorry, love BI's Be I and Bobby's rapping on SMTM3 and WIN, but ugh the solo studio versions...  

Now I'm not sure what kind of final iKON lineup I'm gonna stan....hopefully the 3 newbies won't disappoint!!! Atm, I don't mind Dodo/Yoyo dropping though...esp Dodo...not pulling anything off...vocals? nope...visual? nope...pulling a cutie maknae Seungri? nope, not enough personality...

I'm fine with the way BI handled it. Maybe it's because I'm a korean guy also but I didn't see any problem. People get so sensitive. YG gave the group quite the news in front of cameras so they acted honestly and at the very least, they weren't fake. I would like to add that we all know what's going to happen in the next few episodes. They are all going to work together and be the best of friends blah blah so this will all be old news.

Vocals. Vocals. Vocals. My gosh. I thought Junhwe was the best out of OT11 during WiN. I think that the other 3 are just mediocre. JinHwan is the worst but he's a confirmed member so it's useless for me to rant about him. I saw zero improvement vocally from Donghyuk and the fact that he sounds just like JinHwan puts him in the red zone for me for getting dropped. Yunhyeong meanwhile is on the bubble for me. Yes he can reach all those high notes but there is no depth or special tone to his voice. He just hits the notes. So for him, it would depend solely on whether the 3 new trainees have better vocal color than him. It's not about range but the tone and vocal color from here on out because that is what is the missing factor for me.

^I agree with a lot of your insights, from pretty much all your posts on this thread...including this one...lol except I don;t think Junhoe was the best out of OT11, more like the best out of OT6 /TB (imo TB really lacked in vocals and still do)

Let's hope Yunhyeong has spent the past few months training his ear.  WFM was a surprise but we'll see how he does live this Thursday.  I'm somewhat optimistic as his official description indicated he's improved -- but then again, this is YG vocal standards we're talking about...

Judging from Jinhyeong's training vids at Yon Academy, he sounds like he'll have a rich, deep tone.  Looking forward to him and Yunhyeong + Bobby.  That's three Team B members who have a confident but easy-going masculinity and furthermore don't look like whey-faced kids. 

 

Junhoe is the NamDiva of Team B, except where Taehyun has creative drive and self-awareness, Junhoe has the intellectual and emotional depth of a cup-o-ramen.  As amusing as I find him on these tv shows, I realize his personality is the main obstacle to his going solo, no matter how great his voice is.  They'll likely give him a solo track on each iKON album but unless he either 1) becomes more engaging or 2) leverages his brusque personality into a 'thing' then he'll remain Man #4 on that team. 

 

Poor Donghyuk.  I do hope he figures something out.  He's no star but as someone else said in the thread earlier, he'd still make a good idol.  (Lol who talked about his chin earlier btw?) 

This is a really interesting parallel...but nope, Junhoe is NOT at the same level of diva-ness as Namdiva haha   I do agree with your take on their personalities though. Junnie's more of an alpha-male? than diva...

So I finally decided to just watch ep 1 raw   couldn't wait for eng sub....but I guess here are some of my comments/observations based on having p much no idea what they are saying: 

-I CAN'T GET OVER THE THEME SONG!!!! IT'S SOOO GOOOD CAN I JUST HAVE IT ON REPLAY ALREADY.....UGHGHG

-YG   looks like he's totally enjoying the trollin, esp with his like smirk while breaking the news to TB or just talking about M&M in general

-TB waiting for YG's arrival and YG going down the elevator...ugh totally gave me a deja vu of WIN   

-surprised they didn't seem to mention anything about SMTM3

-when TB was doing that dance to "Get Like Me," the music kinda reminded me of a GOT7 song (idk why, but that ticking and beat sounds really familiar)   

-TB doing that dance was eeeeepppSO FRGGN AMAZINGG   

-when the two newbies came in....they look like fetuses compared to TB (like I already think TB is borderline young for me, but omg esp the not-actor one, looks sooo young  ~ they're giving off too much noob vibes for me rn, like I can't see them replacing anyone in TB nor being a part of TB (I'm really hoping Yang Jr.'s gonna slay at this point...  ) 

-um, maybe bc I have no idea what they're saying, but I didn't think B.I. or Junnie was being rude...   honestly, what do ppl expect   

-Ep 2 preview, looks like they're gonna be split into 2 groups...

-that Wait For Me TB performance...um like can YG just debut OT6 already. they look perf together performing at YG Fam Japan concert, totally slaying that dance, and this performance...nailed it.WHY IS YG SUCH A TROLLL like why show us how beautiful, amazing, and already perf OT6 is as TB...and put them through M&M? 



...and now I can't wait for eng sub and ep 2  sighhh....I guess I am kinda lovin' this drama...
