  1. In my opinion, if the case will be like this, they should disband already. I mean, why keep the brand active or keep mentioning it if they are going to fully focus on individual activities and comeback once every "x" amount of years. It wouldn't be any different from S.E.S or g.o.d reunion post-disbandment. And this would be clearly different from Shinwha since, at least, they manage to keep the group active every year since they reunited in 2012. Something that it feels the girls don't care about, like you said.

I consider SNSD disbanded at this point.  Clearly some of the members are a little bit angry with SM over the way their careers were being manipulated - maybe even some of the ones who decided their best option was to re-sign with the company, anyway.  This isn't a time that any of the members are going to be talking in detail about reunion shows - but wait a year or two and that may change.

But SM can still sell a lot of SNSD merchandise based on the promise of "someday", so it's in everybody's best interest to put on an act for the fans. laugh.png

One thing is for sure - SNSD's departure from the scene has left a huge hole that no currently active girl group is ready to step into.

  2. Well, I don't think they should be spending much time on music shows at this stage of their career.  I'm sure they don't really like doing them, and SM would rather have them out making money doing concerts and tours than risking injury to get a few more #1's.

I am more disturbed by the poor styling and low quality videos.  Probably some director thought it would be "artistic" to make them look like ten-year-old (anniversary - get it?) VHS tapes, but clearly the company spent a lot more money on SNSD in 2015.

The interesting question now - will they renew with SM again, or follow T-ara's lead?

  3. omg SAME. I noticed I'm not as into it as I used to be and I realized it's because the girls haven't been as active as they were when I first got into Kpop. I like other groups, but they are the anchors of Kpop for me. It feels so empty with them gone

Me too, but a lot of it for me is the change in trend in the last year or so away from sexier, more adult concepts. Most new K-Pop videos these days look like high school cheerleading practices.  We need a grown-up comeback from SNSD to sweep all the schoolgirls back into their classrooms. :)

  4. You Think had it all. Stimulating visuals, fantastic choreo, exciting arrangement, good live performances and awesome teasers.

Hmmm...as mentioned before by others, the vocals were shrieky, the colors were too oversaturated, and the Sooyoung/Hyoyeon rap was just...not good.

"You Think" was a missed opportunity -  the visuals were certainly fantastic and it's always nice to see SNSD looking and acting their age, even if Koreans hate seeing them grow up.   They just needed a better songwriter for that one. Not their worst song/video, but less than what it could have been.

  5. That's unfortunate considering how good the song is

Beautiful, cool song.  Too grown-up for Koreans, I guess.  Maybe if they had brought out the schoolgirl uniforms and silly dancing they would have gotten more attention.

Galaxy is my #1 for 2016, so far.

  6. [iNFO] #9Muses "Hurt Locker" chosen as "11th Best K-Pop Track of 2015" by Dazed Digital!

Hurt Locker is #1 for me.  Except for costumes that made them look a bit too young, the song and video were close to perfect. Sleepless Night is climbing my list fast, though. :)

The article's top ten are way off base.  None of those songs would have made my list.   And Taeyeon, BESTie, and EXID all belong much closer to the top.

  7. This is honestly the most surprising thing I've read about Hello Venus since last year  most people seem to think they sold out and their quality went down since they were popular for their cute/refreshing image a long time ago.

The world has way too damned many "cute" K-Pop groups - including AOA, now.  I appreciate those who try to do something that appeals to grown-ups.

  8. I didn't actually discover Hello Venus until about three weeks ago, after seeing "I'm Ill".  I did see the "Wiggle Wiggle" video once back at the beginning of the year, but didn't like it because of its bizarre editing. So I didn't pay any more attention to the group these past few months - other than to notice they were attracting a lot of hate for being "too sexy" (like that's a bad thing!)

Now, all I can say is that this group has amazed me.  Alice might be the most stunning girl in all of K-Pop.

I have a bias list, like everybody else, and my Top Three (SNSD, T-ara, and Nine Muses) will likely stay in place for a long time.

But Hello Venus has, in a very short time, shot past every other group to become my new #4.   :)

  9. I just returned from a week in Seoul on business, and wanted to share a few observations about the city and the K-Pop scene I was able to make while there:

    - Seoul is crowded and busy, with a lot going on.  It's fun, but can be stressful.  If you are planning to visit, it would help a lot to have a Korean friend with you as a guide and translator. English-speakers will have no trouble getting around or communicating, but many of the most interesting places and a lot of the restaurant menus need some Korean-language fluency to decode.

    - I didn't see any K-Pop idols in person, but there are plenty of K-Pop level visuals walking around the popular areas - both girls and boys.

    - K-Pop is on virtually every retail store's music track.  The top songs are played non-stop. I often heard Sistar, Nine Muses, and later, SNSD while walking around.  "Party" took a few days to catch on, but was playing everywhere by the time I left.  But if Korea has a music scene other than K-Pop, it was hard to find any evidence of it.

    - No matter what else you hear on OH, the "IT Girl" of Korea is clearly Suzy right now.  I saw her face everywhere, advertising everything. Seolhyun of AOA was a distant second.  SNSD was still a visible presence, especially Yoona, Taeyeon, and TTS. I saw EXID's Hani only on their reality show (which is just as lame as all other reality shows.) For all the talk here about Krystal, I didn't see her face once - f(x) in general seems to have zero media or advertising presence right now.

    - Music stores I saw all seemed to be small and independently owned. You have to search a little bit to find them. But even the smaller stores carried almost everything...everything released in Korea, that is.  Good luck finding any Japanese releases at all.  I could't find SNSD's Tokyo Dome Blu-ray disc anywhere.

    - Most SNSD merchandise for sale uses older photos that still feature Jessica.

    - SMTOWN at COEX Mall had a big poster of SNSD's Party album cover, with Super Junior's Devil on the other side.  A group of cartoon EXO character statues decorated the courtyard.

    - Korean desserts are the best. :)
