  1. They were talking about stagnating or not improving based on the potential that we've seen from them, not who is the currently the best. Tiffany showed potential early 2014, but then started shouting/straining everything above B4. Jessica got lazy with her support and was inconsistent in resonating above C5, even though she had some resonant C5-D5 moments. Taeyeon is still by far the best vocalist in SNSD even if she can't resonate D5's often anymore. Luna's Eb5's are not that bad actually, and since Taeyeon hasn't performed Shake That Brass live yet there's no way compare fairly. Luna's Eb5's got better as she continued to promote with Amber. Sorry for so continuing SNSD discussion! I just wanted to clarify some things.
  2. I'm vietnamese too, and I was thinking about all those sounds and trying to see if I could say them with or without nasality. There's slight nasality but you can limit it. The consonant sounds may be nasal but the vowel sounds of the same word don't necessarily have to be.
  3. I'm not 100% because of all the feedback and the quality of the audio, but I'm fairly certain that that language is Vietnamese. And to my knowledge, Vietnamese doesn't have very much nasality. We have the nasal consonants "n" and "m" but you can hold an entire conversation without having to say anything nasally. I think he was just placing his sound incorrectly when he was singing higher in his range.
  4. Nope, not yet. Here's a link for the vocal people: And I feel bad for skipping all of Amber, but Ailee starts about 2:49 Also, she and Amber performed Uptown Funk a few keys up. Instead of C5, Ailee's hitting E5. Is she still pushing her resonance or are they more free now? @ 1:29, 2:40, 3:50, and 4:00
  5. Some of Luna's earlier performances were probably as good or worse than Wendy's. They were both tense on the highest note and were both pretty sloppy on the descending run. Luna has more ease on the Eb5 now though, and her run is A LOT better and more smooth (I guess she just didn't have enough practice for her earlier performances.)
  6. Could someone tell me how she did from about 2:50 to 3:28? (especially the G#5 belt, it doesn't sound resonant but how about her support) Also, is it headvoice at 3:33?
  7. It really depends on the vocalist also, there are many sopranos that haven't showcased a belting range above G5 either. A limited range isn't the vocalist's fault. I'd prefer for Beyonce to not be able to belt an A5 over her trying and failing, and G5 is already high enough in my opinion. Not everyone needs to belt C6's like Sohyang to be skilled.
  8. I thought Hayley was a Lyric Mezzo? and I didn't realize Victoria Justice had a developed lower range. Do you know how high she does well till?
  9. They aren't discussed often, but it doesn't mean we should spam the forum with questions about them. This is good because it's new material and it's been a while since they've been brought up. ^^ To answer your question, yes it is a high F (F5). Since it's the studio version of the song, it's hard to tell how good the note actually is but Ken usually doesn't do that well above A4. If he does the note live during promotions we'll have a better idea of how he's handling it. And lastly, as a "high note" it's not very common for female kpop vocalists to go that high, let alone a male. On the top of my head I know that Ailee, Hyorin, and Eunji have some F5 belts.
  10. I'm sooooo glad you posted this, I missed being able to watch this live. and Agghhh, she did amazing! C5's, Bb4's, and that last D5
  11. I only listened to about 2:30, but here's what I noticed. V was singing in an easy range for a baritone, but his F#4's in the chorus were better than anything Jungkook was singing. Jungkook's larynx sounded so high, very tense, probably straining. Suga's rapping is also pretty nasal, I never noticed how much before. Jimin sounds the best out of all of them, but it's still not good. EDIT: Jin was also nasal, tense, and strained.
  12. The one at 2:45 doesn't sound open, and the other one is probably strained as well. I'm hoping that she's been back in the vocal gym so she can perform the song with Amber on music shows. At least she's back to venturing past C#5.
  13. I thought some of her C5's during Secret's "I'm in Love" performances were supported, but I guess that doesn't count towards consistency. Her voice is so light it's hard to tell though.
  14. Does anyone know how Davichi have been doing overall during their "Cry Again" promotions? I want to chalk it up to vocal fatigue due to over promotion, but I just listened to one of their lives (albeit a music show) and Haeri sounds weaker... She just lost the D5 at 2:25, and some of her other phrased belts didn't have the typical openness I expect from her :/
  15. They're both D. First one is either D5 or D6 (I'm not sure, sorry... ><) and the second one is a D5.
  16. Does anyone remember if Taeyeon's C#5 in Hush Hush; Hush Hush was resonant? There's a lot of pages of Taeyeon to go through (please excuse my laziness this once ><)
  17. How's the D5 at 3:24? The highest she went was C#5. And they got worse as the video progressed... Her falsetto is really weak and airy T^T
  18. Her Eb5's weren't as bad as they have been lately; still not okay though. Taeyeon's resonance isn't very big to begin with but the C5 could have been fuller.
  19. I had the same reaction as Yerin, that was beautiful. What do you say about Jimin's G5 right after, it wasn't nearly as powerful as Bernard's but it sounded like head voice.
  20. ... I feel dumb. Speaking of Sohyang though, whenever I try to google her, the first result is always a Korean BBQ place. And to stay on topic: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p8zvm6Jjvpw IS2 has had some critiques about their pitch-correction, but I guess they can't do anything about what happened at 1:23. I think Sandeul has a resonant A4 about 4:19, and there's another A4 in there somewhere too (can someone check please) I don't think some of his G4's are as good, maybe due to jaw tension.
  21. lol. I was so off. (I've never been this off before.) agreed. Congrats? And I don't think that's Sohyang...
  22. The sustained note at exactly 2:40 sounded good, but she went flat on the notes afterwards.
  23. I'm guessing you mean 3:26, and she got throaty. Everything above C5 was a mess from Taeyeon... Her phrased Eb5 was extremely bad, which is weird because she resonates a C5 in the exact same line not much later...
