  1. This is great! You sound a lot more comfortable singing in this range than you do in some of your other covers ^^  I wish I could sing the song down the octave but it doesn't sound as good ://    I struggle with bringing my chest voice up to balance my mix, and when I get lucky and add more chest I tend to get throaty. It's not bad to sing with a brighter mix but I don't get the kind of projection I'd like. I don't really know what to do cause as soon as I go above G#4 it's suddenly a lot headier.
  2. When did Mariah start struggling in that video between her worst era and Christina's best era?? To me, it sounded like there was some throatyness on the C#5...
  3. I think that's what I do above C#5.  Like, I use the most minimal amount of chest voice possible so that it doesn't sound quite like a falsetto/headvoice. Though I could be wrong.
  4. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Xm0JJ0UL18   Someone has a G5 in T-ara's new song, but I have no idea who's singing it. @0:37
  5.   Is 2:14 (albeit very short) considered musicianship? And how was her first F5 at 3:09. It was on an EE vowel but it didn't sound too bad.
  6.   I think they're actually Bb4's, and it sounds nasal for both Hyemi and Hyuna (it is on a nasal consonant though) Keumjo's C5 was tight, and Kyungri's was throaty.    *they're slaying the choreo though
  7.   Yeonji's G5 was brighter and better placed than Seungyeon's (her G5 sounded a bit pushed to me, like what Ailee does even though it sounds resonant) But Seungyeon's belting overall was much cleaner.    For idols, Kyuhyun is probably the closest to being considered great under the kpopanalysis blog's criteria. Ailee has to figure out how to mix above Eb5 better but she's close as well.  Lena Park and Naul are great as well, not sure about Park Hyoshin and Kim Taewoo but I believe they're at least good.
  8. The guy at the start was pretty good too, that was a pleasant surprise! Sandeul's resonance tho; killed me. So consistent. (NOT SURE ABOUT 1:53 THOUGH)   Minyoung's english is the best out of the group, no doubt. 1:13-1:17 and 2:04-2:08 are not difficult lines, and she handled them well. For the other sections, I'm not sure about the Eb5 "shoulders" (it sounds tight)   but the F5 on "got" is definitely strained.   The other girls lines aren't difficult either, they did okay. Sana is nasal, not extremely but she needs to lift her soft palate more to project better. Tzuyu is also a bit nasal and Dahyun is the least nasal out of the three. They all have a bit of an airy falsetto.
  9.   Hara actually wasn't that pitchy, but that isn't to say her lines aren't easier than Gyuri's or Seungyeon's. And about the 2:57 part, the harmony is fine, but the notes that they sang were just bad.. I'm thinking they gave Gyuri the highest "mixed" note just because her nasality would sound better than Seungyeon straining the hell out of it. Her falsetto is pretty though, probably one of my favorite lines in the song. Youngji might be on par with Seungyeon since she's just average but Youngji hasn't shown anything noteworthy to suggest she's above that level.
  10. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A_D3sijMU0U   Could someone help me with the highest note in the run? I think it goes G5 to C6, but I'm not entirely sure.
  11. Sorry about all the SNSD talk, but I'm still confused about Taeyeon. Taeyeon carries resonance pretty much without fail up to C#5 and I believe supports down to G#3/A3. She doesn't always use head voice, but she has shown that she can produce one. What puts vocalists like Raina and Yerin that half notch above Taeyeon?
  12. Seungyeon is killing it on the show. I don't really want to spam the forum too much with videos about her though, so I'm going to try spacing it out. She actually performed the song a few months earlier and I think they wanted to see how Yeonji would sound singing it too. How was her G5? It's not as free sounding as her other notes, but Seungyeon doesn't really strain, so I'm curious to the difference in quality
  13. @1:50 "oh my god," like same dude. and it's kind of cute that you can hear the slight diction issues because of his braces. How were the Eb5's though? That's insanely high for tenors.
  14. I'm loving this show. Wish we had programs like this in the U.S. And wish my Korean was good enough to navigate the internet to find more episodes.
  15. If I remember correctly, Hyorin's lower register is better and she's able to support her mix up to F5. Shannon has a consistent and resonant headvoice up to around C#6 but her mix and lower range aren't as good as Hyorin's (so better control of her registers)
  16. That makes sense, thank you! And the Above Average vocalists that I was comparing him to were Baekhyun and Kyungsoo. Since they have support up to A4 like Hongki, I thought that they would be considered more even as vocalists but I didn't take into consideration their consistency. Just going by supported range though, if Baekhyun's lower range were to improve to B2/Bb2 would that justify an improvement in his rating even if his mix doesn't improve from G#4?
  17. Ahmin, I'm curious about Lee Hongki's rating on the blog. His supported range is similar to that of many of the vocalists in the Above Average category yet he is considered Competent. What does he have technique-wise that the other male vocalists with similar ranges do not?
  18. Jojo's actually verrrryyyy good. She was in a dispute with her previous label, and just changed to a different one recently. She even released an EP not too long ago. In the video, she and her vocal coach hit E5's and do a nice descending run immediately afterwards ^^
  19. If she's a mezzo, then her supporting F5's is amazing. EDIT: I'm actually not sure about F5's, but from recent performances her Eb5's sound good!
  20. Here's Luna's performance as well! Some times I wrote down (some of them aren't that noteworthy.) 0:38 0:52 1:10 1:14 1:38 2:23-2:40 I think some of the airiness in this performance was stylistic because her head voice is usually more bright sounding
  21. Musicianship does not necessarily have to be on the spot. On the spot is more improvisation, which is a part of musicianship. Musicianship means that you can sing the melodic line different than the studio recording (even if you rehearsed it before your performance) or you are able to sing to a different arrangement of the song. Arrangement meaning, the song is more jazzy or upbeat, etc.
  22. https://www.youtube.com/watch?t=172&v=bCHpil7I2nw How were her E5's (at 0:48, 1:48, 2:34) I think they were placed okay but tense, possibly strained?
  23. Omg, I'm impressed, she's amazing. Was 4:10 till the end resonant?
  24. Any tips (like mental cues) on diverting the sound towards your mask instead of your nose? When I try phrasing mid 4th octave notes, I can feel the vibrations in my nose even though I'm not completely nasal. I've never really experienced the sound resonating in my mask even when the note feels good.
