I tended to go for the extremes for my answers. Instead of supported for Wendy, I thought it was resonant. And for the notes with tenseness but good placement I guessed strained ... The G5 :ahmagah: I wish I sounded that relaxed above Eb5. Effortless strain. An average vocalists' dream.
-
OOOH, she's still producing music. I'm happy for her. The E5's sound tight with a high larynx, but the C#5 sounds resonant. You might want to wait for some confirmation.
-
I was so confused when I first started learning notation cause middle C to me was not C3 when I was taking piano lessons. And you might not have to because I hardly think you'll need a vocal range video for any basses in kpop

I've always wondered why the korean octaves started higher. Is there a reason why what we consider the 2nd octave is 0 for them? And how would you denote notes in the 1st octave by that system??
-
Lol. We're having our own separate conversation here. And yeah I would agree with that. I took a listen to some of her lives next to a vocal showcase video and I think her supported range is around A3-Bb4/B4. She has a really pretty head voice, the least nasal aspect of her singing which leads me to believe it's stylistic. Why she chooses to sing nasally when she has such a pretty tone is beyond me. One of her A5's from a head voice compilation I saw was so good.
-
I'm not sure I would give her the extremes though since they were studio and the quality is hard to determine. I'm just saying without lives and going by just the vocal range video, her supported range could fall anywhere in between G#3-C5. She might only have A3-Bb4 for all I know. The head voice moments would give her a boost though.
-
A lot of the notes, especially the lower notes are from the studio so it's kind of hard to tell. Keep in mind that I'm not an expert so these are just my guesses. The quality is hard to hear for her lower notes and it only starts at G#3; She has vocal fry creeping into her 3rd octave notes which might also be stylistic but idk for sure. I know she didn't support the F#3 in "Get Outta My Way" and the G#3's are iffy. The video also skips pretty much the entire 4th octave and goes straight to C5 which also sounds iffy for me because her mix is very bright in addition to the studio affects. The D5's didn't sound good though so in my opinion her supported range could be anywhere between G#3-C5. The C6 from her acapella of "The Disco Needs You" sounds strained, and I watched several of her lives of it in the original key and the B5's sound pretty good in the others.

I'm really just a casual listener of Kyle, so I wouldn't know. I like a few song of hers and iirc not many of them are really vocally challenging. I'm just surprised to see she has a fairly developed head voice. Her discography is very extensive though so it'd be time-consuming to go through it to find mixed notes and such. Maybe someone's made a vocal range video we can check out.
-
Not to mention the G5 before it as well. Didn't expect that from Kylie. The nasality thing might be a stylistic choice, though I still don't understand it.

As much as I wish this were so, it isn't true if we're to look at their debut showcase @2:59 and 3:08, the second sounds better than the first but she's not supporting and running out of air fast https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wQsEIRVssso Hopefully she improves, but she'll need a decent vocal coach first off

Ahh sorry, I only said above A4 because you didn't mention any Bb4's in any of the videos you linked. I guess it's a stylistic choice with the throatiness at the end of his sustained belts, because they all start out nice. When he's phrasing they sound fine. Are the quality of his notes different because of his voice type, that is if he's somethign other than a lyric tenor. I might be confusing the kind of steely quality of his sustained notes with throatiness because he sounds well placed but at the same time in his throat.
-
Ummm. All of his sustained notes above A4 sound throaty to me... The C5 had good placement but near the end I also heard throatiness creeping. Is it just me though?
-
I was watching an MV Reaction video for "I", and the girl correctly deduced Taeyeon's sustained E5 without reference. I saw that Ahmin made a comment about it as well, and it reminded me how jealous I am of those with perfect/relative pitch. Though I'm not sure it works well when you yourself are singing it would be nice to know cause I can never tell when I'm off center even though my ear is great when listening to others...

"Rich, robust and possessing a beautiful clarity in the mid-range, Christina has one of the most beautiful tones to emerge since Mariah's debut in 1990. She arguably is the most innately talented singer of her generation." This makes me so sad. I remember loving her tone when she first debuted, and then she started the screaming...

Nopee. It's gotten worse as her songs have gotten beltier (??) She pronounces them less slurred in the studio but when she tries to phrase the lines live, she literally only sings the vowels to avoid the closed consonant sounds. She's trying to keep her throat open but she's still got a whole ton of jaw tension and yelling goin' on, so not really helping.
I personally think that the performance was decent and that maybe you're being a little harsh given various circumstances. I don't want to sound like I'm confronting you but you're judging them based on a live performance weeks into their promotion, and right after they had been promoting another more vocally challenging song not too long ago. Sooyoung is not as pitchy as you make it sound, like she may not be completely centered but it's not terrible. You also make it sound like correct breathing and mixing while dancing is much easier than it actually is... Though I will agree that the performance pales greatly when compared to their ITNW performances Again, I'm really sorry if I sound defensive but the accusations you made appear more bitter than they do constructive.
Are you guys considering analyzing Key? (I can't find a response on the topic even though I feel as though Ahmin has responded to this question before) I realize that Shinee only has 5 members and you've already analyzed 3 of them but I feel as though you have a lot of material to work with. Also, given the fact that he's a baritone, analyzing him would add some more diversity to the male analyses.

He did well. The highest mixed notes were F#4 and they were good. His transition to the falsetto G4 could have been better and it was also quiet. He went down to G2, I believe, and it was quiet and not well projected (probably some low larynx as well) Overall it was to be expected from his skill level.

I'm pretty sure that it's Yuri, heady though it may be. I died

Thank you~ 2:27 I believe

ALSO, this entire time, I thought that the "You're nots" in the song were just E5s. I was singing them back and that's what my tuner was telling me. What part of the words do they hit G5??
-
I was listening to Green Light and when it got to the D5, it sounded good at first, but I doubted myself. Good for Taeyeon. My college doesn't even let me take music theory courses let alone vocal courses unless I add a music minor TT^TT

There are a lot of phrased Eb5s, E5s, and I think F5s and none of them were good. I'm interested in Seohyun's descending run at the 25 second mark though.
-
On another note though, the G#4's sound okay~
-
It's not delusional actually. Wendy has consistency and resonance to C#5 but she's not good above D5. Yuju on the other hand suffers from inconsistency but has shown resonance and support multiple times up to F5.
