Status, one week after Minzy uploaded the video for her single 'Lovely:

The upload that was streamed on ms. Gong Min-ji's own channel (Minzy TV) has now reached 272.668 views, with 53.191 likes and 5.764 comments

The same day (last sunday - 2020/05/24) Stone Music Entertainment also uploaded the MV.
It has today reached 405.775 views, with 62.225 likes and 5.632 comments

Even though the Stone Music Entertainment upload has more views, the copy on the Minzy TV channel is better for (at least) three reasons:

• - It gives views to Minzy's own channel (which helps in getting it recommended by youtubes algorithm)
• - It has subtitles (The text is good, but at the moment only available in english)
• - The comments are more qualified (more from established fans)

I hope that latin american Minjas will mail subtitles in Spanish and Brazilian to the channel - Minzy has a lot of fans who do not have english as their mother tongue.

This is a normal take - Minzy stands still in a flower arrangement, dressed in a shorter version of her beautiful wedding dress from the MV, on a background of swirling flowers.

 

But 2020/05/28 they also uploaded a 'fancam' version - taken with an unmoving camera:

Minzy has always been known as a dancer, but in this performance she is almost demonstrably unmoving...
- I guess that it should be read as an implied message about us having to focus on her singing. And that is a message I can get behind; she has always had a fine voice, and here she delivers some fine vocal work.
The scenography is simple, but beautiful (and reminds me of Lee Hi's debut performance of 'Rose')

Idols are objects for the fantasies of fans - a fanfic story is not really about an existing person, but about her idol persona... and ideally that should be just as different from the 'real person' as a stage character is different from an actor.

Idols have to learn to separate their real selves from their 'character' at an early stage in their career, in order to protect their sanity: Our idols are larger than life vessels for our projections, and if the real person inside the idol try to live up to those impossible standards s/he will fail - and that can be life-threatening.

But... even if the agency have lived up to its duty, and prepared the idol for the psychological impact of having highly devoted fans, reading sexual fantasies about oneself IS somewhat embarrasing.(And can be embarrasing for the author, too. Some years ago I was close to a board that carried fanfic about a certain boyband; when they found out that members of the boyband where reading their stories, panic ensued, and within a week hundreds of stories were deleted, and lots of usernames changed...)

This might still be K-Pop, but it was serious and adult on a level that I'm not used to... coming straight from Na Haeun this was like a slap to my face, so now I'll have to listen to much more from HA:TFELT / Park Ye-eun.

If you frequent reddit/facebook/twitter/youtube you should by now know that 1000's of accounts only exist to sow division and make people angry... 

I wholeheartedly agree that using threads about individual sickness for political attacks is trashy (and should be condemned!)

But as a dane I do have to tell americans that their anti-social attitudes are hurting their own society - and of course I feel like I am a better person than those who unironically say "I got mine - fuck the rest!"
- unfortunately, sociopathic traits are not only accepted, but openly applauded by a disturbingly large fraction of US citizens.

Perfection is an important part of the K-Pop style - try to compare with J-Pop where unpretty/homely stars are common (which is not to say that the japanese don't like pretty idols; they do, but the idol concept seems to be broader and gives room for idol-types we do not see in K-Pop (Like the 'useless idols' who are supported by wota who pity them)

That demand for perfection puts a lot of pressure on our idols, but it also gives us fantastic performances by breathtakingly beautiful performers.

It's been a long time coming, but K-Pop has surely reached the public eye around the globe.

Some months ago 'Go Waist' popped up in my YT suggestions, and the title warranted a click. At first I thought that it was a good joke, but nothing special, but something made me rewatch after a week, and since then it has been played several times a week.

And now this.... They (and their producers) seems to possess a very solid sense of humour, and their concerts looks like energetic fun.

I hope we will get to see more from them; they are well worth watching!

(And slightly OT: When will more K-Pop groups follow J-Pops use of a rock based sound? Dreamcatcher has shown that it integrates well with the K-Pop idiom, and while I like EDM, I miss the stylistic diversity of J-Pop. By now all the agencies have learned how to stay Korean while still speaking directly to a western audience, so they should be able to use a wider array of international styles without moving too far from the comfort zone of the home market)
