God I hate that song, and I see what you're saying. But I still appreciate in B.I's overall production skillz and as messy and unfinished-feeling as Let It Go was, I like that he went for it. That kid has BALLS and a strong creative drive, and it will only improve as he gets older and gains ~life experience.~ To be fair, many of us who have been hard on Dodo were simply WAITING for a reason to think otherwise. And these two stages were it, especially since we were able to compare him to his direct competition. ...though I'll still be annoyed if Jin+Dong+Chan actually happens as a vocal line.

Every school choir or church or office will have someone who has a good tone and/or can belt out reasonably well on karaoke night. Donghyuk is a still a bit... eh as a vocalist, ngl, and Hongseok is a much more pleasant listen. But this isn't the singing Olympics and as a kpop customer I am paying for a multi-faceted experience. Donghyuk IS more interesting on stage. He expresses himself well, moves fluidly, is likable overall. I root for him to do better -- an important quality. He might never be the best thing in iKON but there is still a lot of value in him. He's a polished performer that I'd be happy to pay money to see. Frankly, Hongseok was neither here nor there. I've been waiting for definitive moment to prove it one way or the other, but this stage sealed it. He is undoubtedly a better singer than Donghyuk but there isn't much else to recommend him. I'm neutral as far as looks go because I view most of them as children, so I'm going plainly on interestingness as performers. And I'm sorry, but he's just not worth the money. I think this somewhat proves that there's a reason why Donghyuk not only won a JYP audition and made it into YG, but also why Hongseok basically WASHED OUT of the trainee system altogether years ago.

If next week is the ~fanmeeting world tour~ episode with no mention of the final in the trailer, then this means (as some speculated) that the final will be like SMTM's -- aired 1-2 weeks after filming. We might still get 8 episodes.

Yeah, I think he doesn't make the cut next week. Only something like that can send the others into meltdown. I console myself by thinking all those waterworks will inspire OT6 fans to rally around him for the final. Even if the voting is a complete sham, the sentiment of the crowd will be worth something. FRUSTRATING that Donghyuk will likely become an official member of iKON before Yoyo and Junhoe(!!!). The whole goddamn situation is ass-backwards. Doesn't it make sense though, from a kpop producer's point of view, to split up the strongest assets into three separate products teams that will generate three times the income?

Not that I've been all that casual as a viewer, but as someone who came in expecting an upgraded, more exciting version of WIN I am vastly disappointed in how this show has turned out. I feel like I was promised a Hunger Games with side helpings of youthful shenanigans and ~brotherhood feels~ and was given poorly-scripted torture porn instead. As a weekly CF for iKON as a whole I suppose M&M has done its job. It has defined the iKON brand in the public eye and launched the iKON narrative: a group composed of very talented, likable, hard-working young boys who will wreck charts as soon as they are unleashed, YG-style. Regardless of what actually happened in the show (and who makes the final lineup), this is the story that will be repeated in press soundbites no matter what. But as a platform for YG to enhance or create value in specific assets/members, it has failed. Disregarding Double B who are already stars and who neither lost nor gained ground, I feel that no one had a "breakout" turn; that lukewarm "he has improved" subplot for Yoyo was the closest thing we got. Not even Junhoe, a person whose cup runneth over with talent and whom this show pushed so hard, didn't quite have a star-making moment. That's a sure sign that putting these kids through a hyper-stressful "final exam" has backfired on YG. And I'm still totally baffled as to what the hell we are supposed to think of Donghyuk, Jinhyeong, and Hongseok, who were so marginalized that they might as well have been staff. Don't get me wrong, I'm still looking forward to the final episodes and I'll still kinda-follow this group after the end -- so I guess it hasn't been a total failure. YG's still gonna get some of my money at the end of the day, which is all that matters to them anyway. Harm if they show up at KCon next summer I might need you to come and pretend to be my little sister or something.
