I wouldn't consider him closest with Chanyeol. They're definitely closer than they were before but not closest on par with Kai. The kind of closeness fans see is more forced from Chanyeol's side because he knows the fans eat it up. Same way he tried it with Kai but Kai didn't give him the time of day. Kyungsoo reacts pretty much the same way but fans are living in their fanfic reality so they think the excessive fanservice translates to closeness. Plus they're of the same age so the age heirarchy doesn't exist immediately. The friendship is there but I wouldn't put it higher than Suho for example. Look around, why are there so many shippers who think they're the closest? It's the same reason fans back then were swearing up and down that Kyungmyeon are the closest and then after that died down, it turned to Baeksoo being bffs. Now it's that ship and the easily swayed fans who only got to know EXO recently would see the blatant fanservice and take it at face value. Simple as that. There have been so many new Kaisoo but I've been hella busy irl lately. I'll be sure to post when my schedule permits. I need to compile em all first.

I don't keep up with variety news so I didn't know. I like Hyunmoo so it's great that he'll be back but I'd be sad if they change the cast. I understand if they would since the old cast has gotten too good in solving the mysteries and fresh blood in shows is always welcome. Kinda torn if I want them to keep the old cast or get a new one. But I'm good as long as it'll be back. Thanks for the info.

I only saw your post recently but if I did back then, I would have answered it immediately. I didn't say you were a TaeKai shipper, but that your views align more with a TaeKai shipper. You don't have to ship TaeKai to think they "may" be more than friends like you did when you were new to Kpop 2 months ago. It's an easy mistake to make. So my point was that you can speculate and form an opinion that they might be more than bffs without shipping them per se. It's good that you know more about SM's marketing with their idols now. Idols also take part of that marketing themselves. They purposefully do skinship and fanservice like Chanyeol has done with so many members already. And as you might have noticed, his most recent target is Kyungsoo when he didn't succeed with Jongin last year. You can see that so many new fans have eaten the pairing up. It's what at you'd call a successful marketing of a ship by an idol himself. As you're a Kyungsoo fan, I'm sure you can see Kyungsoo's reaction to Chanyeol's excessive fanservice, right? For example, during MAMA, the ship being pushed was KyungMyeon which also bled into Wolf/Growl, Miracles in December was BaekSoo and for Overdose, Chansoo. The trick is to know which relationship are genuine and which ones are purely done for the fangirls to eat up. More importantly, which ones the idols themselves don't mind and which one the idols are just going along with for the sake of just going with it. I get your point on why you gave emphasis on the "glaring" part. You based it on rumors you heard and you let the opinion of others cloud your own perception of them. Many fans fit them into stereotypes and misunderstand them which is fine since we don't know them personally. But I find it hilarious that they'd even think Kyungsoo is "jealous" or "desperate" or "after Jongin" when it has always been the other way around ever since predebut era. I think this kind of thinking comes from uninformed fans or those who want to force fanfiction-personalities on them so they confuse Kyungsoo the real human being with Kyungsoo the fanfiction character. My bias in EXO is Kyungsoo too so my main concern is always him as well. Actually, it's interesting that you mentioned Kai glaring and it was what caught my attention when you posted that because truthfully speaking, you're not the only one who's noticed albeit your reason is different. I know this is like 2 months old but I just want to ask, your views and opinions align more with a TaeKai shipper and it would probably be better if you post your opinion in their thread rather than here in the Kaisoo thread where people actually genuinely ship them, friends or more than friends. To preface this long post, I'll tell you that I'm a Kaisoo shipper and that in my more than a decade stay in Kpop, I have never seen another "ship" like them. My thoughts on them are that they're close hyung-dongsaeng. No doubt, the closest to each other in the group. Based on reading your posts, I can surmise that you're pretty new to the fandom or maybe even K-Pop as a whole. TaeKai has been milked by SM as much as they can since EXO's debut and has recently been over milked for the promotion of Taemin's solo debut. That's why you get them mentioning each other nonstop in everything. It's a promotion tactic. Why do you think Dispatch posted those pictures that day and then later the debut date for Taemin was announced? It was marketing noise. Why were there so many articles on them? Why were there so many mentions and such? Because it's called promotion. SM used Taemin's and Kai's genuine close friendship to market them both. Taemin's already a known idol and tacking on Kai would promote him. Likewise, EXO's a pretty hot name and tacking that to Taemin's promotion would also attract attention. It's very normal and expected. It isn't the first time that it has happened and it certainly won't be the last. Many idols and singers flaunt their "friendship" as a means to garner attention. The same way some mediaplay about being related to so and so singer/actor or going to the same school or being in the same church. It's just simply how it works. In most cases, the connection aren't as deep as is promoted. It's merely being used for the media attention. In the case of Taemin and Kai, however, they happen to be real bestfriends and SM, being great at marketing, exploited that friendship. If you think that the way they act towards each other is "boyfriend" material, then it would translate to all friends in Korea being boyfriends. The way they act towards each other is nothing special. It's simply normal for their status of bestfriends. If they aren't bestfriends, then it would be weird to be acting the way they are but because they are bestfriends, their actions are normal and expected of their culture. Also, as SM has been promoting their friendship, expect extreme skinship to show how close they are. It's marketing. Marketing. Marketing. It needs to be believable for the fans to buy it. I think it's a pretty simple logical thought process = would TaeKai be so showy and obvious if they were more than bestfriends? Would SM be promoting them to this extent if they had something more between them? Dispatch and The Fact and numerous news portal outlets know a lot of things, so does broadcasting stations. SM would be foolish to brandish this to our faces if they were to be hiding something. Your first real clue that they're just bestfriends? Dispatch published those "date pictures", Mnet did that bff show with them. It's really a whole lot of things that I thought was pretty common and observational. The more obvious a couple is, the more you're being showed that it's all for show. It's marketing. In the topic of Hyunsik, I think you merely read that and misunderstood. First of all, Hyunsik and D.O were not bestfriends. They were in the same class and went to the same music academy and were then in the same group. They were good friends and has still been in touch even when they became idols. The only account of D.O's bestfriend came from his own homeroom teacher. She said that D.O's bestfriend was a girl which later became his girlfriend because the relationship naturally progressed from close friends to boyfrends. And they shared the same passion for their talents which was that the girl was a dancer and the D.O was a singer. So they bonded over that. But on the topic of Hyunsik and D.O, I think people merely latched on to that thought and made it more than what it was. Promotion. Remember? Is Kai closer to Taemin or D.O? That's a reasonable question. Taemin is Kai's bestfriend and they go way way back. On the other hand, Kai has only known D.O for almost 5 years, has been with him constantly for 3 of those. Taemin is of the same age as Kai and therefore, they qualify as friends which makes them qualify for the title of bestfriends. D.O, on the other hand, is a year older than Kai and therefore, they cannot be friends ergo, they can never be bestfriends. However, despite that, they have somehow managed to overcome their initial misunderstandings of each other and, according to the rest of the members, became the closest the fastest in the group that they even dropped their formalities for each other and speak in banmal despite the age gap. Kai, who has known the other members for longer, did not and still has not dropped the formalities for the other members except for D.O who he knew for a shorter time. They have also been roommates since predebut, only being put in different rooms during Wolf/Growl promo because they had to share with the M members. But when they transferred back to being K and M, they went back to being roommates. They have also been photographed plenty of times going out watching movies/eating out etc and recently, has been going out to play pool. The other members have been photographed playing with D.O but Kai has never been seen with him. Despite this, they clearly stated in a festival in Nanjing that the two of them hangout a lot to play pool. Only, D.O stopped Kai from telling the story when he was about to. Why did he stop Kai from telling the story when he has no problem telling the story of the others? I have no clue. D.O has also been known to be close with Kai's dogs and even his sister. And from Chinese accounts, they always share a room when doing their TLP tour and have only not shared for one or two instances. And as we have seen in every off stage and off camera pictures/videos, the two of them are always stuck to each other, hence the BTS couple title. And let's add the fact that D.O names Kai as the most mature member while Kai mentions D.O as despite being older than him, is very sweet to him. Kinda funny because all the members describe Kai as childish and playful while they describe D.O as mature and scary. So what can we surmise from all of this? That Kai and D.O are indeed the closest to each other in the group. But who is Kai closer to? D.O or Taemin? I think Kai's closeness to D.O is different from his closeness to Taemin who has the label of bestfriend. Speaking of the BTS couple thing, I actually find it interesting how SM isn't very keen on promoting them as much as they have been promoting their other popular ships from before. Kaisoo is obviously one of the most popular ships internationally and domestically. I just find it weird that SM isn't milking the ship like how they milked other ships from other groups. About Kai "glaring" at D.O, I find this kind of hilarious because this year, he has been glaring a lot. It's weird to discuss it here but Kai has been obviously pretty miffed about a lot of things this year when it comes to D.O. Or we can just say their lives don't revolve around each other so analyzing every minute reaction and tying it to them is pretty pointless. Which is why I find that the way they behave is organic. Not forced and certainly not fanservice. If it was fanservice, we'd be getting them constantly on camera instead of trying to look for bts fancams to see any sort of interaction from them. They are obviously not flaunting their closeness to the fans and that's one aspect that I like between the "ship". I think this is my first time posting here. I'm well aware of the other possible whys of them dating being fake but I addressed the sexuality rumor because this is a thread discussing Baek's sexuality and one of the many reasons being brought up is it being a cover up for both of their rumors. There are loads of other threads posting essays to prove their relationship as staged, I didn't think it would be wise to go into it here as well. The other evidences, I don't particularly care for. The fact is that it was confirmed already. It's not speculation supported by "couple" things at this point. There was confirmation. With the confirmation, I am thinking of an answer as to "why" I should think otherwise. I think Kfans questioning the validity doesn't take away from the possibility of it being true since there are fans who also believe it and have been discussing it before this even got out. There will always be a certain portion of people who will have a different opinion from the rest. There will never be 100% agreement especially within such a large fandom. Me mentioning my years in kpop was a way for me to show that I have indeed seen a lot of dating scandals happen. I've seen obvious ones, suspicious ones and I have seen many break up after a few months, some after years of it being publicized. Throughout those years, I have witnessed many things change in Kpop and my opinions have changed with them. You can take that anyway you want, I am not offended whichever way you choose. This thread is a discussion of an idols' sexuality which is why I brought up Baekhyun in the first place since he's been heavily discussed here. If people are going to continue on believing that his relationship with Taeyeon (or lack thereof) is a cover up for their gay rumors, then they're free to believe so. I've already stated why I don't think it is but I also don't see anything wrong if they choose to believe it is. We all have our own reasons and see things differently.

Yep. I've been in Kpop/Kdrama for more than a decade now and have seen a lot of "dating scandals" get revealed and "picture proofs" that get spread around in fandoms. These pictures didn't strike me as odd. I think that a lot of people are just focusing on the pictures and not thinking of the why. In this thread, the why is to cover up both of their gay rumors. I don't see this as plausible because their gay rumors are not what some of us make them out to be. They are not posing a threat huge enough to be covered by a dating scandal involving two members of their most profitable groups right now. It's only within the kpop fandom that their gay rumors are "huge". There is no reason to publicize a cover couple without a real threat in public image. They also house more idols with more evidences and suspicion. You said it yourself, "all the controversy happening happening in exo". EXO has been receiving positive feedback from the public and has strengthened their k-fandom after Kris filed his lawsuit. Why would they ruin it with something like this willingly? I see some people saying that it doesn't make sense. SM probably underestimated the impact their cover up would cause but that's the point in itself. It doesn't make sense. Tbh if someone is looking for proof, they will more than likely find it. A perfect example is you never seeing anything between them before but suddenly see what people are talking about now because you already know what you were looking for this time around. This is one aspect of shipping that makes things get blown out of proportion haha. When we look at pictures/videos, we look at them with the eye of someone "waiting" for a moment. If we see it, we say "aha!". If we don't, we rationalize the lack of interaction inside our head to fit our version of reality. Sorry for going off tangent for a while. I'm not targeting you or anything, if this made you feel this way. I'm only using this one experience of yours as an example. Like, if more couples get revealed down the line, I'm sure fans will be able to dig up their own evidences too even if the couple seemed unlikely before, you know what I mean? Fans whine about the idols not being "careful enough" when in fact, they are, the fans just like playing detective too much and pry into their idol's life wanting to get closer with them but when they unearth something they don't like, they get all defensive and bitchy about it, as if it's their idol's fault. I've read the threads and I can see why some people would find it fishy/weird/staged. Like I have said, I don't, because I've seen a lot of other dating scandal pictures more definitive than these and I too, before, thought of them as fake because it can't be, right? It's too obvious? I was sure it was a cover up for something or another. Like RicSyung, for example. I was a hardcore shipper of theirs before as a teen. When rumors and pictures of him dating Park Shiyeon came out, some fans denied it and are reacting like they are reacting now, with conspiracy theories because of Hyesung's gay rumors etc etc. When Eric confirmed it on the official website, fans still thought it's not true. It's tiring tbh. Fans doubting their idols because they don't agree with their choices. Imo, it's good to not always believe anything but when the evidences are right in front of you and nothing else makes sense, why do fans still choose to believe to their own theories? Yeah, I've seen one person here say they never had dating rumors which is false. But like I answered to milotic55 in the first part of this reply, I don't see SM, like you said, ruining their highly popular boygroup who just turned 2 years old with a dating rumor to cover up gay rumors that have not gained enough traction to be covered up in the first place. As a Kpop fan for more than a decade and being witness to so many dating scandals, I can attest to this common practice with news outlet negotiating with agencies. Another easier one is the outlet will threaten to reveal the more definitive pictures if the agency refuses to admit. This has happened with Lee Hyori and her current husband. In the end, if the agency doesn't want the more "scandalous" pictures revealed, they have no choice but to agree to admit to it so only the harmless pictures get publicized. Like I said, the pictures being proof of it being fake doesn't hold much to the reason as to why it would be even fake in the first place.

Poor choice of words then if you misunderstood. I mean ignoring as not acknowledging the possible truth in it. Speculating and a healthy discussion is always good but reading some of the comments and replies, that isn't the case (not only here but in other places). It isn't a sweeping statement, if that's what you think. Personally, I don't find anything fishy about the pictures themselves. They're standard dating scandal pictures. I've seen worse pictures of celebs who think they're being discreet in the middle of the street. The timing is debatable but I've seen the theories put out and they all aren't plausible. The most rational would be the Teacher's Union issue rn but that wouldn't make the dating fake, only the timing of the reveal will be in question. I've seen and read the Baekhyun discussion in the thread. It was very interesting. I'm talking about some people using his gay rumors as a reason to not believe that they could really be dating. I'm not talking in general but only in connection to this "scandal".

Lmao, I remember a few pages back on my very first post in this thread, I said that Baekhyun is one of the members who just screams straight to me and that part of my comment got ignored. Tbh, having a girlfriend doesn't mean you can't be attracted to men but I just find it interesting that a lot of people are just outright ignoring him dating a girl in favor of believing what's more convenient for their version of reality.

Wow this is the first time I didn't get the murderer right! I was sidetracked by the murder weapon and disregarded everything else. Great episode! Very tight editing this week. The show is really improving with each case. And Jinho is really attractive every time he makes all these deductions concerning things I never noticed before. I'm okay with the change in episodes but worried about the new cast. I like the cast dynamic and it's one of the reasons the show is enjoyable to watch. We'll have to wait for Saturday to find out.

  Ah, this is saddening. I liked their songs before though I've never bought a physical album of theirs. This number do seem to low for a boy group especially since I don't consider Boyfriend that unknown. They had a pretty good start but then idk what happened to them.     I'm glad to hear YB's album is doing well. I bought Solar since it's such a great album but I don't think I'll be buying Rise. Maybe in the future.

I love this show. The crimes are pretty simple but I'm watching for how well the cast works together as a group and how confusing it can get when they try to figure out things. I got both suspects correctly. I think the prod team is getting better at making things flow more coherently for the viewers which is a great thing. Looking forward to watching the next two episodes. I hate watching the first part only to wait for the next part for a week.

I honestly don't see or feel anything from JongKey, no matter how close they seem to be :( They just seem like good friends who are comfortable being honest with each other. I agree on the not necessarily romantic relationship with Kaisoo. This is why I never said they were dating or together, only that there's something there (indeed a strong bond, well stronger than the ones they have with the others at least) and I don't really think any of us mere observers can pinpoint what that something is. I wouldn't hurt my brain thinking about it. I do understand the tension lately that you mentioned. I've been wondering when but it seems pretty recent like a less than a month now. I don't see anything weird from it though. ia on SM not promoting the ship. it's obvious which ships get promoted each era but kaisoo kind of just sailed itself which is why they're the only ship to have survived through all the eras where as a lot of the bigger ships seem to have disappeared/died down. I also get that kind of reading from Soo, in relation with your personality, i mean. Sexuality wise, I don't feel anything much from them both so I never really said anything about theirs before. Soo pings me sometimes in the most subtle ways (he reminds me of a case study i got 2nd year but i don't want to base my opinion of him on someone else, that's not how it works) while Jongin doesn't ping me both ways. His is like at a standstill. ia on baekyeol and taohun. lol don't worry, it didn't come off that way. i just want to point out that i only said they're the 'straightest' I have come across. didn't say they never seemed not straight or less than straight or never gay or anything. only from my own experience am i giving them the superlative. and it's indeed definitive for me, in my own experience. ia with your last sentence so much. that's how they come across as which is why i said 'straightest' in the first place. i wouldn't call it staged, per se. i'd call it 'deliberate' in the sense that they know what they're doing and why they're doing it but never because they had to or it was in the 'script'. lmao those 3 second gazes being blown way out proportion tho. this is how couples in kpop are born tbh and it's kind of ridic if you ask me. because if you watch the original video it didn't even look all that significant in the first place. oh i never meant that the change was the 'awkward phase', quite the opposite actually. the change was so natural, it's been throwing me off when they had new 'interactions' or when they talk about each other. but one thing's for sure is that it wasn't the awkward stage you might be thinking going by the example you gave. could be possible. but i think it's the quiet personalities + image that made people think they're opposites. which is why i don't read fics (im pretty selective) since 99% of the time they butcher the characters personality. don't worry, you don't come off as anti-kaisoo at all. i don't really have a problem with people having a different opinion with me. it's just an opinion, after all. tbh we agree with a lot of things, only our interpretation differs which is understandable.

This is why I didn't fully classify them as bromance that crossed over. Both of them 'ping' to me, Yunho more than Jaejoong tbh, which is where I got the fanservice gone selfservice imo. Fanservice is just that, fanservice. Idols do it, even non-idols do it. It's a normal part of the k-entertainment culture but it's when the participants of these fanservice start behaving and taking what it is a certain kind of way that is more than what it is intended to... this is where it gets tricky. And so far YunJae's the only Kpop couple I've seen this happen to. We can't be sure if they were even together at some point, if there was talk between them or anything but my observation is based only on the possibility of it happening. tbh i only got interested in jongin for his dancing but even tho he's not my main bias, i've always paid close attention to him because i find the quiet ones the most interesting. especially during wolf/growl, i started to pay more attention to him because of the change in interaction i saw between him and kyungsoo. i wasn't even looking for it which is the most important thing imo. people will see it if they're looking for it. this is the most common mistake i've seen in kpop shipping. they already have a set expectation of a certain couple so they view videos and read interviews with that opinion in mind and then when they see something, they find validation in their opinion. this also makes those that conflict with their opinion irrelevant to them. sad tbh cause it's pretty much dismissive of the whole picture. always look through things with an open mind haha. it is indeed hard to see them be more open with how they feel i've seen both of them "gush" over each other as well as others. the difference though is how they both do it and how they both look while doing it as well as the 'feel' they have while doing it. i actually find it interesting that you view jongin's admiration/respect for kyungsoo as the reason for his bashfulness with the other. it's... an odd conclusion. it's refreshing to see someone who thinks that they're both similar to each other. what i've seen around is that they're 'opposites' of each other which is complete bs imo. they're the most similar in the group, i thought that much was obvious but getting into the fandom, it doesn't seem to be the general consensus which confuses me. i find it pretty telling that this is what you think of them. but then already set parameters in yourself for what their closeness could mean. it's human nature so it's understandable. also a tip: don't look for ust. especially if the ust you're looking for is the one you normally see on media. you won't find it haha. it's a complete no no to look for in kpop.

when i was getting into exo and watching shows and fancams etc, kaisoo was the one that stood out to me. especially the difference in interactions between them from mama era to wolf/growl. there's a noticeable difference to me and that was what got me curious. i didn't think they'd be popular in the fandom because of the nature of their "moments" which is why i was shocked to find out that they're one of the more popular ship. maybe if basing on mama era, they'd be really large but they barely even interact on shows. i can definitely see the friendship and mutual admiration. tho tbh i see it more from kyungsoo's side than jongin. jongin is more vocal and obvious about it but kyungsoo is more quiet with his therefore his bursts stand out to me more and points me to believe his admiration/ other feelings whatever you may want to call them, are deeper. it's a simple case of keeping things to oneself that when they do manifest, they show in a deeper level than those who brandish their admiration about. like i said, i see tendencies but not enough to catalog them as 'dating' or 'together'. i think one of the game changers for me was when jongin let it out that they talk to each other in banmal despite their one year age difference. this was a really big deal and revelation especially with both of their personalities, especially kyungsoo's. which led me to believe that there was history there so i was more than happy to find out i was right with the members bringing up the opic of jongin being scared of kyungsoo/misunderstanding him when they first met and how they miraculously became the closest first despite that incident. there's something more behind that, i assume.

tbh there's been debate if people who are not necessarily attracted to males but have been attracted to one person who happen to be a male can be considered gay or bi. it hasn't been solved yet. or if they belong to a whole different classification like pansexual. i'm not saying kaisoo is real, i'm not dismissing the possibility either. their interactions from mama era has seemed more fanservice-y tbh. but the ones after that era, the ones since wolf/growl to now has shown a great difference which is why it got me interested. if i only based my opinion on mama era, i wouldn't have thought they were more than mere close hyung-dongsaeng. but the difference between how they interact (body language and nonverbal cues alike) has only strengthened my belief that there is 'something' which i cannot name and cannot decipher. whether that makes them real or not, i can't be sure. taohun i actually think are just close friends who found like, a "soulmate" in each other. their closeness doesn't have the same kind of tendencies that, say, even kaisoo has which is weird as they're the ones who 'ping' (as is the term commonly used here) the most. the close friendship is pretty normal imo. i'd also like to add that the "straightest" idol group i have come across in my many many years in kpop is BTOB. i have watched so many variety shows of them and no matter how touchy they are with each other.... there's nothing. nada. zilch.

  i'm really surprised. 200K+ in a month? to think that they managed to sell more than half of that in a week too. the more astonishing thing is that not only are they doing well physically but also digitally. it's been more than a month and overdose will still re-enter the top 10 in melon from time to time, just staying at the 11th or 12th place. and there have been a lot of new songs out there this month too. it's kind of insane that they've achieved this much without even a single member being well known. sm's not even heavily promoting them individually yet.   i'm wondering how much they'll sell if they do release a 2nd album by the end of the year after the concert tour. if that rumor is correct.

Interesting discussion. I dabble in gender studies in uni (behavior specialist), my mentor specializes in gay/men to men (m2m) topics. I wouldn't say I'm an expert but from observing body language, the only ones that "seemed" gay to me are Sehun and Tao, even Tao I'm not so sure. Baekhyun and Chen screams straight to me imo. Another interesting thing I have seen is Jongin and Kyungsoo. There doesn't seem to be a lot of discussion here about them but they're very hard to read more than usual. They're exhibiting very normal tendencies of bromance than has crossed over to the other side. It's a new phenomena in the field. I've only read one study on it so far but in Kpop, they're the only ones I have seen that exhibits the tendencies. YunJae would be another, in their earlier days but that's easier classified as fanservice gone wrong that escalated somehow. We would never know.
