Then I think use mixed rather often than most other guys. I also legit have the loudest "biggest" voice in my high school. Maybe the weight of my voice makes my voice very loud and using mixed makes my voice a lil bit higher in pitch, are my conclusions correct? Edit: LOL AT NASAL AND OBNOXIOUS!!
-
Also a contralto who could effortlessly hit an A2
-
Ahmin, does everyone really speak with chest voice? I think my speaking voice is considered higher than most guys.. Does it mean I speak with mixed or just my higher chest voice? Also, I'm an avid thai movies and series viewers, the guys' speaking voice are mostly very high. Does that mean they don't speak with chest or they just strain their chest voice which result it to be sound very high?
-
*BLUSHED* sometimes you're being overly nice lol. Thanks tho.
-
My greatest problem with my singing is I can't seem to support my voice which result my voice become shallow.. But still I'm gonna pm you that screech lol. I think you could be a baritone tho lol. I mean I never heard you sing but so I can't really know your timbre nor exact tessitura, however from that passagio, you could be more a baritone than a tenor. Lol okay I'm gonna try to differentiate with your tips, thanks.
-
Yeah I figured that but I think vocal range and passagio are closely related and my passagio tells me that I'm a baritone. I switched into falsetto around F4/G4 I think. And yes, Ahmin did, several times actually. Are you interested to hear my strained screech as well? Lol I know the theory but I can't really be sure where my lower passagio really is lol
-
How could you tell when chest voice stops and switches to mixed? I really can't differentiate between upper chest register with lowest mixed.. With that range I believe you're a baritone. I'm a baritone too. My range is E2-G5..

I think what he was saying is that Beyonce on her prime = Mariah on her prime = Whitney on her prime. And I feel the same way as she/he does.
-
Congratulation Ahmin for your graduation! I better get my thesis started soon lol.
-
It sounds decent to my ear. I don't really think that's a wobble but I'm not sure

I'm sorry if my inquiries made an endless discussion here lol. anyway, no one answered where would Anita Baker ranked as vocalist. Was she good in her prime? Or at least based on the video I put before? Who else could pull off messa di voce in pop contemporary other than Beyonce? And I remembered someone said that Aretha is considered the best in pop above Mariah, Whitney or Beyonce, but I never/seldom heard she sustained her belts. Is it because she lacks the power because her voice is big and weighty or it's just her stylistic choice not to sustain her belt?
-
Hey guys, what do you think about Anita Baker? Is she a contralto? Her timbre is so dark just like a contralto but her upper mix is not so dark, it's actually kinda bright. Does her chest and lower mix done with lowered larynx or she actually uses a hed dominant mix in her upper mix? And based on technicality, is she good? Her musicianship is very good tho. I really like Beyonce's performance in this one, I could clearly hear the resonance all over the place. But please someone enlighten me.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3MDKES1Cvkk 2:56 is it messa di voce? If it is, I heard that messa di voce is one of the hardest technique in classical world, is Bey is THAT good? 4:32 - 4:42 she kept switching from her regular mixed voice to other voice, is it mask placement and nasal placement? Or is it actually not nasal but actually...a falsetto perhaps? lol I'm screwed. And if anyone have better performance from Beyonce's pefromance technically, please kindly share them with me Lol I'm kinda obsessed to find resonance in every vocalists/singers that I listen to nowadays. That's why my playlist has kinda changed since I've been here lol.

'It's Okay, Roommate' Official Thread (SBS Roommate Season 2)

Hoping Jackson could bring this up. If not, the show is doomed for good I think. There's not many people who could be real in front of camera. -

the netizen is always harsh. but this harshness is also the truth this time around -
There are reasons why Naul, Ailee and Hyorin are the top tiered vocalists in kpop. The video doesn't really have many live performances on fast runs category but the three of them are there, live. Who is this A.T girl tho? She seems like a good vocalist if not more to my ear. You should listen to the technical aspects tho, lol. Blame this thread I'll never be the same anymore. i used to love singers like John Mayer, Adele etc so much. After reading this thread and tried to re-listen to their songs I got disappointed I feel like I made wrong choices back then.

I'm really sorry for my ignorance. I either never heard of the term dark lyric or overlooked it being mentioned here. I don't know that a lyric could be dark since yeah lyric is known for its brightness, mostly for tenors and sopranos.Further question then, what's the difference between dark lyric, full lyric and spinto? Since the three of them are indeed darker than light lyric obviously but how dark, if you could present me with numbers would be great. I'll just shamelessly assume that I'm one of the "all of you" that you're proud of. I'm going to learn a lot more from this thread in the future.
-
Well there's no dark lyric, it's light lyric. Between the same voice type, for example tenor, the color/timbre of the voice would point whether the tenor is light lyric, full lyric, spinto, etc. On one vocal type, the brightest would be light lyric, followed by full lyric, spinto and then dramatic would be the darkest.
-
After lurking in this thread, I know that to differentiate supported, half-supported and unsupported note is terribly difficult. To recognize whether someone is singing from diaphragm fully or partly is also hard like it is easier to know whether a note is resonant or not, or strained or not. Lol I sound desperate.
-
A true vibrato is achieved when you sing with a good technique, check the op if you want to know more, from the recording I think it is a wobble which happened due to lack proper breath support when you tried to sustain the note. That's why the "vibrato" feels unstable in speed. I think you have some intonation problems and the connection between your registers still needs improvement. I'm not good with notes, passagio etcetc, but from your timbre and weight alone, you do sound like a lyric tenor. But please, take it with a grain of salt.
-
Lol maybe it's a resonant backtrack. But if it is, I think it is Chen's with the same reason as zhx's. It really sounds like Chen.

Hai I'm new to this thread. I wasn't sure before whether to join or not. But I think fuck it, I'll just join and see lol. I don't know exactly what is my sexuality but I think I'm gay. At least mostly. I like guys, but somehow I like certain parts of women. If i have to measure I'm 80% into guys and 20% into girls lol. But I never dated guys, I only dated girls in my 21 years of life. My country is quite conservative with sexual orientations other than straight. Well, be nice and take care of me ^^

Well I think I mistake these sentences as you're saying that his tessitura lies on the lower octave which is kinda baritone's tessitura. And I was just saying that I thought his whiny sound would place him less than above average bcs I haven't really watched his musical. Now I'm waiting for you to redo Hyorin's analysis ;) ans wish Baekhyun's analysis would come out soon *poke zhx. That video tho, so funny! But I'm not like that... Lol
-
That analysis is very, how do I say it, comprehensive, as always. I never knew that Sunggyu could be considered above average vocalist due to his whiny vocal. Do you think his mixed is underdeveloped? Because he's a tenor but his true color shows when he sings in baritone's tessitura. However the weight and timbre of his voice really show that he's a lyric tenor tho, that weight really helps with his agility.Anyway, happy belated birthday Ahmin!
-
Yes Great octave is C2-C3 and I meant what I said. i mean in kpop, female with the best lower register is UJi of bestie but I think she doesn't hit anywhere there. Even mezzo soprano like beyonce could only hit Bb2 which like one note and one semitone lower than C3. Even baritone's tessitura usually lies between small octave and one line octave. Like I could only hit E2 with vocal fry and I'm a baritone, so i don't think there are many female singers who could sing in great octave from bottom to top with ease. At least not that I know of ^^
-
I think it would be very rare to nil for a female singing in the great octave as part as their tessitura or even their supported range, and I think it also applies to male. I think only the voice type bass that is able to sing in the great octave with ease, which is a rare voice type as well. Lol even most untrained baritone struggled to touch the lower part of the great octave.
