i'm not sure what you're referencing? people speculating about his sexuality as a minor? i dont ever remember that, but sexualizing him as a minor was a no go zone, specially during sherlock era, alot of people had a huge problem with that. we speculate about him now as he is of age of course. ?

I think no sexual discussions of minors is already a rule, the question became is discussing a minor's sexuality considered sexualization... thats what sort of spiraled this out of control.
