[billBoard] Red Velvet Announce First-Ever Stateside Fan Meet-Up Red Velvet performs at KPop Night Out during 2017 SXSW Conference and Festivals at The Belmont on March 17, 2017 in Austin, Texas. On Wednesday (March 21), K-pop girl group Red Velvet revealed that they are going to hold a showcase for all their ReVeluvs in Chicago next month. The quintet will appear at the Rosemont Theater on Sunday, April 29, just a day after performing at the annual Korea Times Music Festival held at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles. It will be the act’s first-ever Stateside showcase and their first time in Chicago, though they have previously performed in several other cities in the country. Red Velvet is the highest-charting Korean girl group ever on the World Albums chart and, with four chart-topping albums, are tied with several other K-pop acts for the most No. 1 albums on that chart. The group is immensely popular, and their latest single, January’s “Bad Boy,†landed them their best sales week in the U.S. yet. Rather than a formal concert, the Chicago show will be a fanmeet-style event, where the five members of Red Velvet -- Wendy, Irene, Seulgi, Joy, and Yeri-- will interact in a more casual, intimate way with their fans. The April event is also, notably, the first solo performance from a female K-pop group in the country since APink’s 2016 tour, which itself was the first K-pop girl group tour in the States since 2012. According to SubKulture Entertainment, the local tour organizer, ticketing information will be released at a later date. The news of Red Velvet’s first solo U.S show came just a day after the group was announced to be part of a South Korean artistic contingent being sent to perform in North Korea at the end of this month. cr. billboard @billboard
