Golden Music Awards: Jolin Tsai Has 10 Costumes Changes in 12 Minutes, the Shortest at Only 3 Seconds
According to Taiwan's "China Times", at the 25th Golden Music Awards, Jolin Tsai's 12 minute performance had 10 costume changes. The total time taken to change was 103 seconds - the longest at 22 seconds and the shortest at 3 seconds - resembling a Bian Lianperformance of Sichuan Opera. According to reports, the zips, velcro and hooks on the costume were imported directly from the UK and arrived only one day before the performance, thus most of the rehearsal time at the venue was used for the costume changes and not the singing or dancing. At the opening, she wore a long dress for the song "I know you're very sad", before tearing off the long skirt in just 3 seconds to transform the outfit into a white mini dress. Even before going on stage, she was already wearing four layers. From "Don't Stop" and "See my 72 changes" all the way to "Dancing Diva"'s silver tassled tube, she took about 10 seconds to change each time. Stripping was easy, but putting on costumes took more time. Next, in 20 seconds, 4 male dancers helped her put on a black vested dress for "Agent J" as well as the special gloves for the next song "Bravo Loverâ€. When the song changed, she immediately turned on the power for her shining costume. Once the song was over, the dancers helped her fold up her skirt over her shoulders, forming a large flower for the song "Butterfly†- an ingenious costume change. After that, she changed 3 times more for the songs “Real Man", "Honey Trap" and "The Great Artist". Apart from just being eyecandy, the 10 topless male dancers on stage also served as a human wall while she changed her costumes. According to reports, the whole performance originally only consisted of two costume changes. However her stylist Thomas prepared so many costumes and accessories that even the dancers wanted to see her use them all so that in the end, the performance became more like a costume change show. Her manager Wang Yong Liang said: "10 different types of dances and styles, changing both the dances as well as the costume, she really put in a lot of effort and rehearsed many times."
