this is what i wrote    [spoiler] Response paper for "Grand Illusion" The “Grand Illusion” is often called one of the greatest films and greatest war films ever made and best of the fresh cinema, Because of this the film show great creativity and originality. It is the pioneer of all the war films that has been made since. The film gives the audience a glimpse into what it was like not only simply living during war world one era but also becoming a prisoner, a solider and much more of the first world war.    The story focuses on a small group of French officers who are taken prisoners of war at the beginning or the movie and begin a plot to escape. Several escape attempts follow until they are sent to a fortress which seems impossible to escape from. Through the ups and downs and losing ones close to them two characters (Marechal & Rosenthal) never give up and manage to make it out and find shelter at a single mother’s home (Lotte) for awhile. While at Lotte’s home Rosenthal is able to rest his injury he got while running away and Marchal ends up falling for the single mother but he and Rosenthal eventually leave from a sense of duty to the war effort after Rosenthal recovers from his injury. Maréchal declares his intention to come back for Elsa and her daughter, Lotte, after the war. The two eventually reach closer to Switzerland even though German patrol spotted then they ceased fire because they to made it into Switzerland.    This film has a roller coaster of emotions – from making you laugh, cry, smile and worrying but overall seeing Marechal & Rosenthal’s victory can give anyone motivation and hope to achieve what they need to in their own lives. With so much into one film it may take some time to fully understand at first but if you listen and pay attention closely you will see that the Grand Illusion is indefinitely on of the greatest films/war films of all time.   [/spoiler]
